Madden NFL 19
Madden NFL 19 Presentation Details
Madden NFL 19 Sr. Game Designer, Greg Heddlesten, has posted a new blog covering what’s new in Madden NFL 19 presentation. Including expanding stadium exteriors for some of the teams, 3D broadcast graphics, updated broadcast package, pregame and halftime flows (including an updated halftime show) with real-time visuals, 2 additional replay cameras, commentary call-back stories and much more. Read the entire article here and post your thoughts.
Obviously the half time show being the way it is now sets up the real possibility for a weekly recap show. It's nailing down what most of us want from that type of deal. I really don't see an excuse as to why that shouldn't be built next year from what they have shown now.
The call back feature for the commentary is one I think can really be beneficial. If it can call back on past games and seasons then it is truly something that can be built on greatly. If they can get the system to where it can save key plays/drives at some point and reference those we'd all be ecstatic. I'd be happy if it even just showed the score of the last time I played the Cowboys that year and talked about the way the game went and what may change this time around. It would also be neat if they could build off of it and maybe reference that the team I am playing is the team that eliminated me from the playoffs last year or the last 2 years in a row and now there is a bit of a rivalry being built.
Can we get dynamic rivalries, EA? Please! NBA 2k does it ;)
1. They're building on the pregame sequences they built last year. Glad to see this with any feature.
2. The tech they're using enables live content. This alone makes me optimistic for the future. Keep building on features and slowly but steadily we'll have great presentation.
People are upset about the scorebug, but it is a lot cleaner than what they had in the past. And if it's still working and not changing this allows them to make a more comprehensive presentation package then I'm for it

Yea I feel better about it now that Mills said "it'll look more in appropriate with all these new wipes etc."

Great start. Presentation needs to take big steps like this every year. Progress is all the community wants. Keep building!
The commentary call backs sound nice too. I hope there are actually ways to call back to old games in your season as well. Overall EA Sports, nice job with this. Just keep on building on this is all I ask!

Halftime show is kinda meh for those of us who do 32 team , but good for the one team guys and hopefully is the precursor to a weekly wrap up type thing, which would be a nice touch definitely .
Anything whuch places the user In his 'own league environment during the game is fine with me , so the improvements to commentary will help there also
Not a lot of stuff in MY mind but generally good and offering more for the future
Now back to gripeing about CFM .......

I think they just wanted to showcase what is new. Its still a nice addition over last yr. Plus they said they can add new things throughout the year now. I think thats great building throughout the yr.
Replay Cam, really!!!
Man, thats a good question. Hopefully its something that hasn't been shown yet.
At 1st glance, I thought it was referencing uniforms, but it said teams.
- has to be a misprint because there was some info put out noting that nothing was done in the Expansion Team aspect and I don’t think there was over 50 Expansion Teams (maybe wrong though)

Replay Cam, really!!!
I would take a custom cam, but I think different replay cams are always needed, it gets pretty stale with the ones they have yr after yr. Really never used a broadcast cam in any sports game.

I think it's in reference to the relocation teams, 3 per city I think? So not true expansion just relocation. I could have sworn I read it somewhere as well.
While I agree, they’ve been saying they can add stuff during the season for past couple years now. Hasn’t gotten that far though. Still solid steps in right direction.
Well, not totally true. They have been adding weekly commentary updates. Im sure these wont be as frequent though.
The issue I’m having is that if this new added camera will provide a unique perspective in seeing the blocking holes, why not extend it as an option during regular gameplay?
What gamer wouldn’t want to see holes in blocking in a more defined way?
In-game presentation, minus the commentary, is still complete junk. From the old score ticker to the terrible, wholy unrealistic replay shots, to the way the players interact after a play. From the games at EA play, I didn't expect it to change but a small dash of my hopes were up.
Don't get me wrong, I liked the additions that were made but presentation across the board needed a rebuild. Maybe next year.
I never counted, but there where 50+?
- maybe it was some of those “ugly” color schemes I just quickly skipped over. lol
The 3D helmets, icons and logos leading into each matchup is going to add to the immersion and excitement. Colors and "flash" aid in attracting people's focus.
The disappointing part of the reveal was the beta give away codes. LMAO..I am too old and my fingers too slow to put that many numbers and letters in fast enough...lol...I felt the same as I do trying to make defensive adjustments prior to the CPU snapping the ball on normal speed.

I never really counted them up either. Expansion teams would be really fun but this is the nfl we're talking about. They probably won't allow that.
Random thoughts about Presentation since these most likely impact CFM the most
But based on the reviews Madden will NEVER satisfy everyone
They go backwards on CFM to please the online guys then the offline guys will be livid
They make strides towards sim then Online guys will be livid
They make improvements to Offline CFM now the Online CFM wont really be satisfied ..
Moral of the story is Madden has too many aspects going on to please everyone evenly
Yes. It looks really good.

well that seems to be the reason they created the 3 separate arcade/sim/competition modes.
They did add new commentary in Franchise last year, most of if was saying more and more of the drafted players names as the the year went on.
Oh ok. I didn't realize that wasn't in at the start
Hopefully they have it for M19 but for created players/edited names. This is a must for custom draft classes if creating realistic college draft classes. In the past when edited a name this stopped commentary from saying their last name...
They need to keep going in the same direction.
EA isn't the type of company to blow everything up and out. If they continue to add 4 or 5 great things across the every mode, (game play, CFM, presentation, graphics, etc...), Madden will improve a lot.
This 100%! Really hurts the value and immersion of custom classes and player editing if they don't do vocal matches for at least current and common names.
What gets stale is the same camera angles we are forced to play in for years. I rather they update the cameras we have to use every down oppose to a replay cam.
CFM has been dull and boring.
Immersion is a good thing.
What gamer wouldn’t want to see holes in blocking in a more defined way?
The crazy thing is that the camera angle I want is already in the game but it's only in the CMF Player mode, it's basically the Standard Camera lowered down a few notches.
I really hope they build upon the "call back" feature for previous games, seasons, and championships.
It bothers me that we cannot even view any of that from the season before, but that is a different conversation entirely....

I think a weekly wrap up show and improved "in menu" news tab would be welcomed by online and offline CFM guys, maybe they're building towards that.
I want it to eventually be more layered than the pass near your own endzone example. And like another user said, expand it so that it doesn't just call back on a single play from the same game. If I had the #1 defense last year, reference that in comparison to the current season. Stuff like that would be awesome

I’m with you. I find interesting (and most likely a nice way to call it) they are calling them “expansion teams” and not relocation. I can totally deal with a team called San Antonio Express or London Bulldogs, at the very least let us customize that uniform and team colors, maybe?!? Asking too much from the NFL.
As for the offline CFM nice changes are welcomed, and I’m hoping for more teams with the exterior show cases.

Yep, this. I'm also hoping it eventually mentions things like "and here come the defending champions onto the field".

Same here. Kicking off a new season after winning the conference or the Super Bowl and it's like it never happened really pulls you out of the franchise and feels like a bunch of play now games strung together.

It would be but I have a feeling it wont be just by the record of how EA implements things. They will probably use the same call backs at the same time stamp and it get old within 3 games...but we will see....
I will say as excited as I was about the halftime show my enthusiasm is diminishing because I would rather have the final scores vs 2nd qt scores. But at least it is something. Too bad that is the mentality some of the community has to take.
They talk about games in progress and stats from those games? What about your own game and highlights from that?
Anything on Injury notification and a sideline reporter?
Anything?

They did show that after the stats and scores from other games, then it brings you back to your own game and shows you highlights from that.
Nothing on sideline reporter and I don't know if they talk about injuries during the halftime show or not. The only thing I've seen about injuries is them showing a player running with the medical staff to the locker room.
I keep hoping for a custom camera one day. I personally play with the d camera ( and not always on dline) . But id prefer if it was just a tad bit lower and alittle bit back from player. Id really just love the ability to " look around" my player with one of the sticks ( maybe with an additional button pressed) when using d camera so i can look beside me or behind me better.

Madden has always been the game that follows.
Even though he’s not my cup of tea, Moody said something in an interview that hit home dealing with Madden.
I think across the board, everyone has had this vision/thought at some point, that Madden would be the leader in innovation dealing with sports games.
To his point, Madden has not produced a feature/mechanism that other sports games have been chomping at the bit to incorporate into their game.
When I read suggestions, all of it usually reads “Madden should incorporate this like in this/that other sports game”.
Looking at the Tech Sharing concept, what game is in the most desperate need of this concept?
- Madden!!!
I am so jealous of PC gamers because of the liberty that they will have to tweak Madden to their liking.
Something as minuscule as additional “Camera Options” will at least be viable to them.
I have to invest in a PC anyway so...
This feature has So. Much. Potential.
For starters, it can enable more of a dynamic-like commentary when speaking on different Teams/Players/situatuons.
If they overhaul the Injury system, this call back feature could integrate quite well with that.
***Example with Mack Bryant, a Generated RB from my M18 Franchise:
• Mack tries to power his way right over the Center, gets tackled and sustains an injury.
Brandon Gaudin - "We got a man down.....it's Bryant. He appears to be clutching his leg, and I hope it's not that knee because remember Charles, he went down last season with that Partial ACL tear."
Charles Davis - Agreed. If there is one thing you don't want to see from your Running Back - it's multiple leg injuries; you'll notice over time they'll tend to lose the explosiveness they once had and that can really hamper their game.
It can also tie in with Drafted Rookies:
*Camera Pans over to the Rookie CB on the defense, also displaying his stats on the season which is 2 INTs in 2 games*
Gaudin - "As we take a look at the rookie's numbers here Charles; two games in a row with an Interception......perhaps looking to grab his 3rd one here today."
Davis - "You know Brandon its funny.....this guy was the 19th selection of the 3rd Round, and I gotta be honest with you - people didnt think he was going to amount to much (Slow/Normal Dev trait) - but he's out there proving that he's got what it takes to compete at the NFL level."
EA - make the immersion happen.
I'm still waiting on a good halftime/postgame show, complete with highlights from around the league. I know it's taboo to mention the other game, but it's been a decade and two console generations, and we still don't have a game with presentation that comes close to it.
On the replay front, they need to stop trying to make the game look like a movie. Nobody wants a movie; we want broadcast presentation. It's incredibly immersion-breaking when a replay has a camera angle that isn't possible in real life, or that would never be seen in an actual broadcast.
I would still love for them to implement fixed replay angles in the manual replay mode as well. Being able to go into a replay of choice and view it from a broadcast camera, wirecam, etc. without the need to manually move it as the play progresses would be fantastic. Or even better, implement a camera system similar to what was in the Skate games, with key frames, tripod, and follow cameras to create custom highlights.
We had all this stuff, if not a better version of it, WAY back then. I am lost at how they took features out of the game that were fantastic (halftime show, weekly show), had nothing, and now replaced it with a less detailed version.
It's 20 freaking 18 and we STILL do not have commentary smart enough to recall whether or not your star RB missed the first 3 weeks of the season with a leg injury and how that might affect whether or not he's playing well right now!?
It's 20 freaking 18 and we STILL do not have popup stats during the freaking game detailing what Aaron Rodgers did last week against the Cowboys?
It's 20 freaking 18 and we STILL do not have the option of hearing COMPUTER GENERATED PLAYER'S LAST NAMES IN THE GAME!?
It's 20 freaking 18 and we STILL do not have STADIUM ATTENDANCE THAT GROWS OR DECREASES BASED ON HOW YOUR FREAKING FRANCHISE IS DOING!?
I'm this close to done. | | THIS FREAKING CLOSE!

To your point on stadium attendance, I believe that's an NFL thing, not an EA thing.

The commentary "callback" thing, or whatever they are referring to it as, could be a super nice addition. MLB The Show did something similar with the branched storylines this year and it does add extra flavor to things....it's one of those things that when you get it you go "ok, whatever" but when you go back to an earlier version of the game, you go "man, I miss that".
Speaking-of, I got bored last night and decided to fire-up Madden 16 to test a slider-related theory. My lord, it's utterly amazing how many things (some big, some minor) they've added to both in-game and franchise assets between M16 and M18. Even things like UI layout aren't nearly as good (and don't even get me started on M16's menu speed....). I was playing my game on M16 and was having a blast...but a little part of me kept thinking, "What else is going on across the league; am I alone?" Amazing how something as minor as a scorebug adds to the overall feel. Point is...every little change, no matter how small it may seem, is something to be happy about. Don't get me wrong, there is still a lot more to do but I love the direction this series has gone in and I think M19 will just add even more to the puzzle.

This right here 1000%. I can't stand this "movie" style or "beyond broadcast" crap that they insist on using. I wan't immersion and authenticity. The game looks just so much better.
It got INSANELY OLD hearing "That pass was thrown by Wilson and caught by Wilson, no relation" every single game using the Seahawks.
The major thing still lacking in presentation is CONTEXT. Don't just tell us what's happening, tell us WHY it's important. Pregame should be all about how THIS game is important to each team's season. If I am in the wild card chase, mention that. Emphasize the need for a win if I am one game out of first late in the season. If I'm 3-11, then make a comment about ending the season with momentum. Star returning from injury or missing the game due to injury? Talk about it. I could go on and on, but you all get it. It's not enough to say that Watson and the Texans are going up against Mariota and the Titans. Yeah, we know that. Tell us why each game is important, and how the outcome will affect the season.
I'm not trying to hate on the additions, I really like the direction presentation is going. Just want to mention what I hope the next steps are.

As it has been since the beginning of time...Madden consistently fails to build off itself.
Year 1 separate from Year 2 separate from Year 15.
The game basically resets itself at the end of each season, even worse, basically each week.
Agreed. If Fifa can do it, there's no excuse for Madden.
Every sports game does it about now. NBA 2k, The Show, Fifa.... it's just Live, Madden, and NHL that fail to bring this into their games.
I wish Madden followed Fifa more than it followed NHL or NBA Live.
