Madden NFL 18 Patch Available Now, Here Are The Patch Notes

A new Madden NFL 18 patch has arrived today for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 users. Check out the patch notes below, courtesy of MUThead.

  • HDR Support
  • General Stability fixing various crashes and softlocks
  • Fixed issue with Steelers; crowd ‘Terrible Towels’ appearing black or grey
  • Online Head-to-Head Quarter Length changed from 4 minutes to 5 minutes
  • Fixed an issue around MUT Squads players receiving the incorrect rewards when teammates leave the session early
  • Improved a small framerate drop when the ball is snapped on PS4
  • Tuned scaling of the football to be slightly smaller
    Fixed an issue where Points were purchasable in Trial
  • Fixed Button functionality to be correct: [CROSS] button does not function when attempting to load a MADDEN PROFILE

Gameplay

  • Zone Coverage tuning to increase ‘Break-on-Throw’ times
  • Tuning to decrease effectiveness of Ball Carrier special moves
  • Fixed issue around Coaches standing in the middle of the field when re-starting MUT Challenges
  • Tuning to increase blocksheds in run defense vs. Gun Inside Zone plays
  • Tuning to slightly increase pass rush when QB holds onto the ball for longer times in the pocket
  • Fixed an issue with sideline characters not reacting appropriately to big plays

Franchise

  • Fixed incorrect Chargers/Giants week 5 game on the schedule
  • Fixed issue around schedules recording incorrectly when using Play Now Live for Preseason Week

  1. This could turn out to be a catastrophe if they did not tune QBs to get ball away:
    Tuning to slightly increase pass rush when QB holds onto the ball for longer times in the pocket
    Sacks could skyrocket even higher than they already are for cpu QBs.
    Just a question here from someone who decided to skip M18 this year based on all the negative reviews....
    Is this "the patch" that everyone has been waiting for? I thought there was one scheduled to release mid-September. Is this it? or are we expecting another one? If this is it, I will be looking forward to the reviews. I've held out this far because of all the complaints of M18 not being worth a $60 upgrade over M17.
    Saw something pretty interesting in my first few minutes of CPU gameplay (Pats vs. Seahawks, Play Now). One of the Pats DL got in pretty quick on Wilson and, rather than take the sack, he fires an off-target pass that hits Malcolm Butler in the numbers for a pick 6. My QB accuracy is still tuned down so I expect throws like that from time to time, but this one was almost certainly caused by the rush.
    I've got it downloading now. I didn't see it mentioned in the notes so I don't know if it has been addressed, are bubble screens broken for anyone else? Whenever I run them, the receiver just runs downfield rather than the usual motion for a bubble screen
    Edit - I just played, still broken
    Still no formation subs fix.
    I'm about to play a game and see if fumble recoveries are being tracked, as well as kicking stats.

    This is the mid September patch released a little early. There will probably be another one at the end of September or early October, per statements that Rex has made on Twitter.
    Stuttering issues on PS4 seems to be FIXED!!! YAY.
    Too early to tell about zone coverage though. 2 Xp so far and both were in. Hopefully they added this as well.
    Sack I'm not sure since I'm playing with qb traits edited.

    I didnt see it mentioned in the patch notes...but, will we ever have the ability to adjust the game clock length in "Play Now Live"?? This is my favorite mode by far, and I've been wanting this in Madden for many years now...but, why are we only allowed to play 6 minutes??:jpshakehe

    John White (the Franchise head guy) on Twitter also said there were some fixes for Franchise in the patch, and he'd post them later. I don't know if these are the same ones already implemented via cloud update or not.
    Also happy the rugby ball sized football has been scaled down.
    Why couldn't they just make the QB ai better instead of making everyone else do something different. It's like cutting yourself and just mopping up the blood instead of wrapping the wound. Fix the cause not the effect. QB ai is poor so they hold the ball too long? Best leave the ai alone and make sacking them easier. Cheers 😂
    I played a bit. Pass rush on AM seemed stronger, along with some dumb OL, AI.
    Zones are still pathetic, with guys standing around brainless in Cover 2, etc.
    Cover 3 Match, Cover 4, and Man are all you can trust.
    Keep those affected by Irma specifically in ur best wishes.

    I think it's the other way around. Defenses will react faster once the ball is thrown.
    That being said I'm not seeing a big improvement. Just 1 half though.

    This is mainly geared towards h2h play. Folks no longer can sit in the pocket for 5 seconds then roll left or right for another 5 before firing a pass alllll the way across the field for a 1st dwn, on 3rd and 19+ 😂😂
    Hopefully the improved rush forces the cpu qb to react/sense pressure faster, avoiding the rush sooner, allowing the traits to kick in faster.
    I'm curious to know if the qb traits were touched?

    I'd give it 2-3 games, Maddens weird like that
    I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I knew that their "fix" for zones would be a band aid. The real issue is not reaction times, it is awareness. Defenders can have one receiver in their zone and they will stand still flat footed. It's not about reaction time on the ball, it's about having zero awareness around them. Even elite players with high awareness and zone coverage. I see very little difference between Landon Collins and Darien Thompson. I knew this was what they would do, because it's the quick and easy "fix". It is what it is.
    Nice little surprise when I fired up Madden this morning. It didn't fix everything but it is a good sign that they are paying attention and fixing things that needed to be fixed.

    Na man. Check the bugs/glitches thread. This is small stuff compared to the issues. Don't get me wrong, I love the game. Way better than M16 or 17, but there are a lot of bugs that this didn't fix that seem more important than what they addressed here.
    It'll be interesting to test how zones work because cover 2 was unplayable and man cov barely worked either and it doesn't seem like they put much attention into that or the run defense vs. human players being underpowered and the cpu run blocking being OP. None of that seems to have been touched and it's a big issue to having legit competitive games.
    On All-Pro Sim with FGA at 35 I missed two field goals and an extra point. Seems like if you don't nail it in the black area at the bottom of the meter you will miss now, like it should be. Thumbs up.

    - Zones still doing their thing: watched a guy run wide open through the middle of the field on a post from the right side while my S and LOLB dropped back and to the flat respectively, both covering literally no one.
    - Seeing a ton of pocket-movement and lateral scrambling from AI QBs now, still nothing in terms of them getting up field though. Small sample size.
    - DL moves seem nerfed. Lots of stonewalling where my inputs seem useless, like Madden 16 at launch.

    I played a play now game and picked two random teams. I laughed when it came up Jets vs Pats. I took the Pats just to see how dominant they would be with the zone fix. The result, Josh McCown picked me apart. Granted I used no coach adjustments but when I got pressure he moved and scrambled and threw on the money strikes to receivers that were every bit as open as before the patch.
    Chad Hansen, the Jets rookie receiver got matched up with McCourty in a man to man situation. McCourty has 84 man coverage and 90 speed and 92 awareness. Hansen with 66 route running ran a simple corner route and beat McCourty by 10 yards. When Hansen cut McCourty did what I can best describe as a basketball jump stop before transitioning immediately giving up 7-8 yards.
    So, if an 86 speed, 66 route running, 63 awareness rookie can torch an all-pro safety we have a problem......

    I read it the same way you did. If they're improving DB reactions (which we know is their goal), it should read "decrease 'Break-on-Throw' times".
    Anyway, can't wait to try out the new gameplay and start a real franchise.

    Had two that simply did not work in the rain and want to make sure it was weather effects that caused that and not an unintended bug from this update.

    This is the garbage that was going on before... Crazy that they didn't do anything about this.
    I'm about to go check on my download, but zones needed more tuning that just "break on the ball". Coverages like Mable, which is supposed to pattern match vs. trips -- yet the safety continues a seam drop while letting the #2 receiver he's supposed to be reading run pass are broken in that regard.

    Mable went from a great add to the game to completely unusable this year. What a waste. Like I said in my previous post, reaction time to the ball isn't the issue. It's the actual AI that is powering the zone logic. It's a complete mess. Too many players standing still covering dirt, no reaction to QBs running, no reaction to players in their zones. They just stand still. This is a 12 year old problem, but it's even worse this year than last year.
    Sigh... Why oh why did it have to be football...

    This may have been corrected already, as I have not read the who thread yet, but this is incorrect. You can set the time in the game settings. I payed a 9 minute games in Play Now LIVE last night.
    Would be nice to be able to adjust this setting in the pregame, though.

    I can happily report that yes, HDR is, indeed, enabled for the XB1 S. Just verified that it is active.
    And Arrowhead looks damn amazing in the early evening, and is just a stunning effect on the game. One which we will all acclimate to and never really notice again soon enough.
    But seriously, it looks great. Makes watching the pregame worth it.
    Can't wait for November and the XB1X to see it in 4K, too. But HDR is the real upgrade, anyway.

    On the XB1 S, it is just active. I assume it is then it detects that the display is HDR capable.

    I wonder if they managed to get Vegas added to Offline CFM....Can't wait to check it out tonight, my offline franchise is stuck at the city selection week until they get this added in. Very frustrating.

    I would highly recommend upgrading if you have the means. Battlefield 1 just got an HDR update and man it looks beautiful on my Samsung KS8000. I would also recommend getting this TV.

    Right but my buddies and I play an online franchise together and if I am the only one with a 4k ps4 would we still be able to play together?

    I just tested it out. It's the same. I'm right there with you. I was in love with Mable when it was added. It was one of those coverages I had been hoping for for a while.
    I don't know how it got so broken between last year and now. It's totally useless vs. trips if the offense runs all verticals, which is exactly what it is designed to defend.

    Yes, it's the same game, and the console architecture is the same, one just has more powerful guts.
    Think of it like using a PC. Your PC at work has certain parts in it, your PC at home has different parts in it, yet both computers can use Microsoft Word, go to Operation Sports, or chat with friends on Facebook. One might be slightly faster than the other, or maybe your home computer is a laptop, and you use a mouse on your work computer, but the architecture is (probably) mostly the same, and it does a lot of the same stuff.

    Heck, there's really no technical reason that people on a PS4 and Xbox One couldn't play together either. That's a business decision by Sony, Microsoft, and EA to not allow for that capability. But, on their own console line (e.g., Playstation 4 Pro & Playstation 4, or Xbox One X and Xbox One), all of the systems, networks, games, accessories, etc., are compatible.
    I guess its nice they tried to do something. But there is just so much wrong with zones and man to man right now.
    Its beyond infuriating to have a 87 overall Dieon Sanders beat consistently in man to man coverage on all pro in MUT by a 73 overall WR.
    Oh well, I guess maybe next year.

    That was literally the first thing I did too. I'm a college football fan, so I try to recreate a college spread offense in Madden. Bubble screens are generally a staple of spread offenses, but yes, the majority of them don't work as the WR just runs straight downfield. There actually is one formation I've found where the bubble screen is run correctly. It's a trips formation, possibly a bunch, out of the shotgun, but I can't remember the exact name. Anyways, it's the only bubble I've seen that actually works correctly.

    Yes it does as long as your tv supports hdr you will see a difference. What type of tv do you have?
    This is really disappointing. I thought they said they had a fix for the Missed Extra point glitch (extra points are being kicked from the 35 yard line in sim and super sim, instead of from the 15 yard line, causing more missed extra points than there should be)

    They had it designed wrong. The linebacker pushed to the #2 receiver vs. trips instead of matching #3 as it is in real life.
    I made it work by controling the LB so #2 was never open up the seam, and I only used it vs. trips.

    No point in getting to worked up over this patch... the big one is usually the 30 day patch... if we dont see improved QB play and zone/man coverage than NBA 2K gonna be getting played a lot sooner this year...

    I personally think its more embarassing how many bugs and legacy issues are STILL in the game 10 years down the road.
    I understand this is a new team, but you HAVE to know about some of these issues. We played one or two games and figured out pretty much all of them.
    Still though, they have been making fix's for MUT, so I guess the H2H community will be happy?
    I'm happy with the patch thus far. They added a few things and fixed a few others. There are still issues...we all know that but. The games been out 13 days and we got patch. Good job EA.

    It's important to know that they pushed this patch out quickly to get it implemented before the hurricane, its likely they do have a fix but didn't get a chance to include it in this patch.
    Sure but to many of us thats still saying "The game is broken but maybe, just maybe, if you keep waiting then one day it wont be" which is pretty frustrating.

    I don't think the hurricane has anything to do with the timing of this patch Kehlis.
    They (EA) submitted the patch to Sony/MS for approval a little over a week ago.

    Not all 4k TVs have HDR. It's a newer technology. My 2015 4k Samsung 7000 series don't have it.

    Well I bought it less then a year ago so will see. I mean its through a reg HDMI wire correct? So will see if it looks better its not like i have to turn a option on correct?

    If you choose to look at it that way. The big patch usually isnt until day 30 so if a particular fix isnt in that patch, feel free to panic or state your disappointment.

    You can google the model and look up the specs. You'll notice a difference in lighting with HDR. I don't have a HDR tv (buying one in a few months) so I cant provide before and after pictures but you can find game like Horzion Zero Dawn before and after a but that game really shine with HDR.
    I just wish I hadnt bought any MUT points or cards.
    Not only is the game a mess. But everything I bought in MUT was absolutely useless. Didnt get ONE good thing out of any of the packs I got.
    Which makes this patch more disappointing for me.
    One thing I noticed is they fixed the loading screen for rosters etc...before this patch if u clicked on file it wouldn't say anything.
    Now it tells u the files loaded...
    I only played one game so far but I could see some improvements the defense played better at least from game I played.
    If they ever tune or fix sack issue this be a great game.
    I did see some running from qb... Manning even out juked Garrett who had a easy sack...and manning took off ...only to get sacked by garrett in end.
    I also like that they added HDR in this patch.

    Yes. The TV or which PS4 console dopesn't matter.
    Is the bug still there in MUT where if you are the visiting team in a solo challenge it shows the wrong coach's reactions? It's pretty lame when you score a TD or something with the Chiefs vs. Raiders and it shows Jack Del Rio celebrating instead of Andy Reid, lol.
    Downloaded the patch this morning. No HDR for me. When I play The Show or the latest Uncharted my screen will go dark and come up with an HDR logo in the top right. Nothing on Madden.

    I used to get this but then had to have my TV repaired. I get the quick black screen on HDR games but no notification from my TV. Does it mean my TV is running the game in HDR even though I don't get the notification?

    Every form of EA's UT, fifa, NHL, Madden, is pointless and a money suck. Don't bother with it.

    I used to get this but then had to have my TV repaired. I get the quick black screen on HDR games but no notification from my TV. Does it mean my TV is running the game in HDR even though I don't get the notification?
    samsung change the way hdr loads the screen will blink out but the words hdr will not pop up just hit the middle button it will show the hdr words

    Stuttering issues on PS4 seems to be FIXED!!! YAY.
    Too early to tell about zone coverage though. 2 Xp so far and both were in. Hopefully they added this as well.

    I think you are just misunderstanding how MUT works. You aren't supposed to be gifted a great team. You use the cards that improve your base team, then use the rest to either quick sell, auction, to fill sets that reward you with better cards. I addition, you play solo challenges, which reward you with coins, contracts, packs, and XP.
    The game would be boring and pointless if you had powerhouse team in the first week. That's why I never saw the point in why some gamers choose to spend $100s, if not $1000s, on bundles of packs. But hey, that's what puts cards in the auction house.
    Which is why I only spend gold on cheap, special packs, like the level up rewards. It's over 3K in coins, but they are good packs. Otherwise, the only packs I open are the rewards. I use my gold to buy tickets to play MUT Seasons and in the auction house to buy the specific players I want.

    It's important to know that they pushed this patch out quickly to get it implemented before the hurricane, its likely they do have a fix but didn't get a chance to include it in this patch.

    I'm pretty sure if you get hit by the hurricane, you won't have power to play the game.
    Just played a game and lost 33-28 to the Falcons. Matt Ryan threw interceptions on his first two passes which was weird and made me think that maybe the AI wouldn't be able to handle the changes. I was wrong. From that point on Ryan was 26-31 for 421 yards. Didn't see much different with zones or coverage in general. Seemed like players may have been reacting faster but they still don't react to players in their zones or guys in the flats and the windows to throw into are still massive.
    I also sacked Ryan 7 times. None were really of the bad statue variety but there still is a big lack of awareness when it comes to pressure for AI QB's. He didn't move at all the whole game.
    Ball carrier moves are still very effective for the CPU. Almost seemed more effective in this game.
    I had no timeouts with two minutes to go and they're up five and they threw on first down and then ran the next play when all they had to do was take knees and the game was over. Nothing new there, just another example of bad AI decision making.

    This is really disappointing. I thought they said they had a fix for the Missed Extra point glitch (extra points are being kicked from the 35 yard line in sim and super sim, instead of from the 15 yard line, causing more missed extra points than there should be)
    FRUSTRATING!!!!!

    Damn, I can't believe they didn't fix the XP glitch. There are way too many touchdowns where the extra point is missed happening in the sim and super sim engines in my CFM.
    That was a simple fix, I would have figured they were aware.

    Them knocking out the first patch is all well and good... but I still have the bug where the game auto sims to the draft after week 17. Can't do any offseason or playoffs or nothing. I feel like I just wasted 60 bucks.

    Ok well I leveled to 28 and still hadnt gotten anything better then an 83 overall player. My roster was terrible, through 28 levels. Because all the packs I got through playing, or buying with coins were absolutely worthless.
    So I thought ok, let me get some of those NFC packs or what have you. My one elite player? A punter. So yeah, screw EA and MUT lol

    One thing I noticed is they fixed the loading screen for rosters etc...before this patch if u clicked on file it wouldn't say anything.
    Now it tells u the files loaded...
    I only played one game so far but I could see some improvements the defense played better at least from game I played.
    If they ever tune or fix sack issue this be a great game.
    I did see some running from qb... Manning even out juked Garrett who had a easy sack...and manning took off ...only to get sacked by garrett in end.
    I also like that they added HDR in this patch.

    I'm with you man, this game will be great and a lot of fun if they fix the sack issue.
    I literally can't play the game because of it. I had a game on 9 minutes, All-Pro, no accel. clock and got 12 sacks just rushing 3 d-lineman the whole game. I have a hard enough time making the game challenging as it is, I can't have the CPU gift-wrap me -120 yards of offense for the computer on sacks alone

    I am dude, but all I'm reading is MUT stuff, extra point bugs, kicking, etc, franchise stuff, I think I only saw one guy actually talking about gameplay, that he was beat by the falcons and matt ryan was sacked 7 times, just a little comment about the zones. Im just trying to get some answers from people about the things mentioned in the --> patch notes <--
    The Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium is still named “New Miami Stadium” within CFM even though all the signage is now correct and Brandon Gaudin refers to it by the new name. Just a small text error, but annoying as a Miami fan.

    Check your settings as you may have everything set to auto within CFM. You also probably have "advance week" set to auto.
    They should fix the in game stats where you click onto a player's career stats and it doesn't show the teams they played for let alone the years. I'm sure this is a simple fix as opposed to all the others.
    It's all just formulation.

    Yeah that's not a bug just a settings issue. The default setting has everything set to auto I believe, so make sure your Player Scouting, drafting, re-signing, free agency etc is set to manual instead of auto
    I just got a freeze in offline cfm. hasn't happened until the patch. anyone else? that stupid depth chart wouldn't load, then I went to depth charts and it wouldn't load either.

    I'm as frustrated as anyone with the bugs, but getting worried that a patch that is released on Sept. 6th is the only one coming in "mid-September" seems a little unnecessary, especially since the 6th is hardly the middle of the month. If it's the 25th and we haven't gotten anything that's a different story, but they haven't broken their word about a mid-month patch when it's not even been September for a week.
    This is lame.. Our QB's are all trash at this point.. Yet, EA continues to listen to scrubs trying to have over-powered defenses.. We dont need the suction cup picks to return. Get rid of the 'fix' as you guys called it.. They dont need people getting more picks.. It was fun like it was. Stop, listening to the guys you 'think' are competitive. Those are the glitch/cheese users that want a broke game with nano blitz Trash. Those guys are skill-less. Stop, breaking your game for these bums.

    In the three games I've played in the patch, the zone defense reaction time is somewhat better. But in those 3 games, the Packers, Colts, and Raiders have all been extremely run heavy. like 95% run and 5% pass. It's somewhat troubling when you end a game on All-Pro Simulation with 9 min quarters and Aaron Rodgers has only 15 pass attempts.

    Yeah, it's kind of shocking see $110 bundles in the store. But there can be a real addiction to opening packs, not unlike playing slot machines.
    What EA figured out is that the guys that are going to spend the money are going spend the money. But those guys are selling those cards for coins, and the people buying them are us, the guys not spending money. So EA needs us in the game as much as they need the whales and other folks that use $$$ to buy extra packs.
    I mean, there are people that spend $1000s on Candy Crush.

    Not necessarily change anything, but it has me curious on how exactly the certification process is done.
    If they submit the patch to Sony/MS how can they rush it out? Or do they typically wait a length of time after it gets certified before they release the patch?
    It is frustrating for me to come in here and see everyone saying the game is still crap (which I'm sure it is) and then go on Twitter and see everyone praising it and saying Defense is back and being all excited. I'm starting to think Madden 17 is the last time we see a game for hardcore guys bc 18 is an offensive shoot out built for big plays and 6 min qtrs. I'm so pissed I didn't trust my gut and hang on to 17.

    Just played 3 CFM games since the patch. All Pro Sim on DEFAULT sliders.
    - The zones coverage is slightly improved, but not much. Man coverage wasn't touched. Defenders still make unnecessary angles to receivers. Receivers still get open kinda easily because defenders are stopping and give the receivers space, STILL. Defenders still move the opposite direction where their man is breaking to.
    - I have not noticed any difference in pass rush, QB's still taking a while in the pocket at times for me. Also, when QB's do run, they still run toward the LOS and then throw the ball across their body.
    Will play more games but those are my initial thoughts.
    The hdr is making the game extremely dark and not as sharp imo. The colors do pop somewhat better especially around the stadium but the darkness makes the game almost unplayable in some times of day in this game or what direction your going.

    CFM Mode was barely touched
    - XP still a massive issue with kickers missing plenty
    - LT's still giving up 25+ sacks when simming

    I read it the same way you did. If they're improving DB reactions (which we know is their goal), it should read "decrease 'Break-on-Throw' times".
    Anyway, can't wait to try out the new gameplay and start a real franchise.

    See this is the problem with Slideritis, and ultimately EA. What does defensive reaction time action mean? There hasn't been a description in 4-7 years. I'll try to be as clear as possible. Also tested theories are out the window. We all see the same things 50% believe its reversed/ 50% when you raise it; coverage is indeed more "reactive"
    Breaking down the language Pass - reaction - time
    Interpretation A.) When raising this slider it in fact raises the "WINDOW OF TIME" in which a Defender reacts to Pass plays/Passes. Which in result would mean lower slider= lower time window (Faster reaction)
    Interpretation B.) When raising this slider it in fact raises the Defenders Reactions to a Pass play or pass. Making defenders More reactive
    I am sure others have more interpretations. But EA needs to come out of the closet with this one. We're talking about 5+ without anybody truly knowing what we are adjusting/what to visually expect.

    Super small sample but yes it appears the cpu QB isn't holding the ball which is a good thing. Problem is he seems hyper aware and is moving and throwing darts on the move and off balance.
    I played a play now game and picked two random teams. I laughed when it came up Jets vs Pats. I took the Pats just to see how dominant they would be with the zone fix. The result, Josh McCown picked me apart. Granted I used no coach adjustments but when I got pressure he moved and scrambled and threw on the money strikes to receivers that were every bit as open as before the patch.
    Chad Hansen, the Jets rookie receiver got matched up with McCourty in a man to man situation. McCourty has 84 man coverage and 90 speed and 92 awareness. Hansen with 66 route running ran a simple corner route and beat McCourty by 10 yards. When Hansen cut McCourty did what I can best describe as a basketball jump stop before transitioning immediately giving up 7-8 yards.
    So, if an 86 speed, 66 route running, 63 awareness rookie can torch an all-pro safety we have a problem......

    I just played a CFM online game in a Simulation style and seriously it was a fantastic experience. Worth to mention that I have been playing online since Madden 04 and I saw a very very good Madden gameplay.

    • Coverage was finally there, defense reaction looks much better and much more realistic.
    • Pass rush was there
    • HB move effectiveness was much more realistic.

    Really a nice upgrade, keep up the good work.
    Played another game against Washington and lost 38-17. Gave up a pick six and got absolutely torched by Kelley to the tune of 260+ yards. The way the game played out didn't give me much of a chance to play pass defense. It does seem tighter though. I'm on All-Madden with adjusted sliders and Cousins was 11-21 passing. I saw a couple throwaways which was nice because they have been pretty rare. Also saw some inaccuracies which is nice and on 17 for CPU Accuracy I've had a decent mix of games. He started 9-11 and finished 2-10. I also only sacked him twice but they didn't throw much. Marcus Peters has actually made a couple plays though and hasn't been getting consistently burned like before. CPU zones on All-Madden are definitely better as well. They are active as hell in zones.
    I don't know if it's related to the patch or just a random occurance but in both games I've played I've noticed some blockers just completely ignoring defenders. More than a couple times with RB's in protection and then once on a pulling guard when he ran right at him and then just ignored him. Also had a couple wonky plays; one where I tried to step up in the pocket and my RB knocked my QB down for a sack and then another where on a Shotgun PA screen my TE at the snap ran directly back into my QB causing him to throw it forward like three yards into the ground.
    I'm starting to sour on the ball carrier moves taking control of your user controlled defender. At first I didn't mind it but it doesn't seem like ratings play into it at all. I had a play in the Redskins game where they run a stretch I fill my gap perfectly get into the back field and have the RB lined up and then it's completely taken out of my hands, my LB gets juked and it's a 60-yard TD. Looking at the ratings DJ has 90 AWR, 88 TAK and Kelley has 82 JKM and 75 ELU. Just frustrating to do everything right and then have it all taken out of your control. If it was a crappy LB then I'd be more than fine with it but it happens all the time with DJ and Eric Berry so I don't really think ratings play into it at all which is the part I don't like.

    Pvarck31 I got both set at 100 on my b6 oled it automatically switches to hdr on my tv with my settings all my other hdr games look great

    Make sure Dynamic Contrast is set to high if you're on version 05.03.02 or higher as it's required since LG updated the tone mapping for HDR.

    How so? It was a poorly thrown ball. Granted I don't like how the pick played out because he went from having his back to the ball to immediately turning around and making the catch, but I'm fine with the result.
    Pass rush is making the statue QB alot worse in my games. I've tried all default settings for QB's AND the QB edits.
    Edit: Just finished a coach mode game where there were 17 sacks for both teams. 9 by the Ravens, and 8 from my Browns. I'm very frustrated at this point.

    Instant replays are still stuttering on the PS4 Pro. I thought they said this was fixed? Also, can we get some of the excessive player clipping cleaned up in the next patch? It's really hurting the experience on what otherwise would be a decent game. Is it too much to ask not to have players walking through bodies being that it's almost 2018?

    I'm getting a lot of stuttering during gameplay when playing in HDR on PS4 Pro. Prior to the patch I was only getting the stuttering during replays but now it's happening during gameplay smh. I noticed that the stuttering happens less frequently when playing in HDR Game mode as opposed to my other HDR options (I have an LG 4K OLED). None of my other games have this issue so it's definitely not the TV just fyi.
    Look I get that this is a so called "transitional year" with the implementation of the Frostbite engine, but my God this game is SO unpolished. It's probably the most unpolished Madden that I can remember. It's going to take several patches just to clean this game up. Thankfully there are many other quality games coming out this year. Madden has been a huge disappointment so far.....

    They fixed it the frame rate issues that was affecting PS4 regular. They said when the call is snapped.
    They said slightly frame rate. I wouldn't say slightly. But hey it's fixed.

    HDR looks incredible makes a great looking game look fantastic. As far as the dimming of the screen, that's just how HDR works. Backlights 100 really helps but it still is going to be dimmer than some ppl like. I kinda felt that way at first but got used to it playing the show.

    I have a 4k tv. Just recently did an update. How do I turn on HDR on the tv and "allow HDR" on XB1s. Im able the check off the 4K box in adv video settings but cant check allow HDR.

    Why is video like this called a placebo??

    I never thought I'd see the day that Twitter, with as many lunatics as there are there, is a better source of information for gameplay analysis, at least for Madden, and by a wide margin too.

    I've got it downloading now. I didn't see it mentioned in the notes so I don't know if it has been addressed, are bubble screens broken for anyone else? Whenever I run them, the receiver just runs downfield rather than the usual motion for a bubble screen

    At least your receiver heads upfield. My receiver on bubble screens comes flying in towards the quarterback , getting tackled immediately by the pass rushing D-line, resulting in a 4 yard loss. This needs to be fixed.:mad:

    Basically what should happen if you have HDR is when the PS4 loads the game you should get a quick black screen and text on the TV that says an HDR video is playing.
    If that's the case, then you should also turn your TV's backlight to the max and also max out contrast.

    HDR games like NBA 2k17, MLB the Show, and now Madden 18 come through a little dark in HDR mode on my tv (LG OLEDB6P65). And that's with backlight & contrast up to 100. I turned the "brightness" up on the tv slightly (from 50, to 61), changed the in-game brightness in Madden to Highest, and contrast to Highest, and it looks damn vibrant.
    Played my first game post patch and saw 20 combined sacks, much higher then any game prior to this patch today. I don't even know where to begin, my patience with this years game is at an all time low. They released this patch and increased pass rush, which clearly didn't produce whatever outcome they were hoping for as 20 combined sacks in a game is ridiculous. They did something to zone coverage per the notes but I see very little difference, still seeing post routes down the middle wide open with safeties standing and watching before attempting to do anything. I'm still sort of shell shocked that they released this game with the CPU QB play as abysmal as it is, either they don't truly care how bad it is or they think it's actually realistic which tells me all I need to know about the future of this franchise. I've had zero communication with Rex or Clint as I don't use Twitter at all but I have to seriously question the passion behind making a sim football title when you release a game with such a glaring issue surrounding the most important position on the field and then base all your testing on 6 minute quarters, that would be the equivalent of The Show developers only testing for the first 4 innings of a game and ignoring everything after that then claiming they are all about sim gameplay at the same time.
    I guess in the end I have nobody to blame but myself for buying this game after swearing I wouldn't after dumbing down passing last year only to fix it once the Madden Bowl was over. Based on that I have a hard time believing we will see any real tangible fix to this anytime soon, I hope I'm wrong, but based on what they did last year with the QB accuracy problem I don't see it happening. We were told they could tweak each play style now that they split them up so maybe that's our saving grace but they released a patch today that didn't specifically fix anything with regards to the sim playstyle so unless that can only be fixed via tuners I'm a little perplexed as to why this avenue wasn't utilized.
    In closing zone coverage seems slightly better, CPU QB is still terrible and them ramping up pass rush only made the problem worse. Yes I know they didn't claim they were tweaking anything QB related going into this patch but the problem should have been caught prior to release if they really cared, then again testing on 6 minute quarters probably produced 1-2 sacks a game and they lacked the foresight to realize that anyone playing on longer quarters would see ballooned numbers. I've learned my lesson, congrats EA you got me this year but it won't be happening again. I refuse to buy a half baked product then get strung along for months waiting for them to fix core elements of the game just to rinse and repeat the following year.
    Now granted i only played one game with the patch, but for me and my skill level....i liked how it played. The constant big plays seem nicely toned down, ie offensive no where near as overpowering. The defense seemed overall just better. It did look to me like the coverage was tighter User/cpu. Did see a couple of wth's...that i guess i can live with. So overall, although early, i'm pretty happy with the patch. At least i believe it's playable for me.

    XBox or PS4? For PS4, go to the home screen, highlight the Madden 18 icon and push Options. Check "Update History".
    If you don't have it just go to Check for update from the same list.
    I sucked at this game before the patch, I feel like I suck a little less now with the patch. I just messed around for about a quarter and a half and held the Packers to 7 points which is huge to me, although I can't do diddly poo in the running game now so I feel like I'm back to square one

    Yep Reyes, in my one game post patch...i had a heck of a time running the ball ,too.
    Formation subs fixed?
    Statistics in CFM for kicker's fixed?
    QB AI fixed?
    Defense fixed?
    Too many sacks fixed?
    High scoring games fixed?
    Tattoos fixed? (Kaepernick?)
    and some other things i forgot.....
    ....Well i think...NOT FIXED!?! Ok i must continue experiment with sliders, but i can't find a way that satisfies me :sumo: Just waiting for the next madden patch :splat:

    Another seat of the pants game, tight game all the way to the end. Montgomery ended up with 120 yds rushing, the CPU QB, Matty Ice 64% passing with 3 int's.
    The zone coverage were sweet to see, vastly improved since launch.
    The game was played with QB edits and coaching adjustments.
    The game keeps getting better.

    The fact that you had to change so many sliders, settings, and player traits would scream trouble for me. Glad you're having fun, though. I just had C.J Beathard pass for 350 yards and 3TDs on me so I'll be putting this game down for a looong time.
    It's just one game but I believe it played much better with the patch for me. I redid my sliders from the ground up as I believe you should after any gameplay patch.
    Played Eagles v. Redskins 9 min qtrs, no accel in online CFM. Saw 60-70 plays per team which I can live with. I played as the Eagles.
    Cousins went 20/32 for 252 yards and a TD. I went 28/40 with Wentz for 308, 3 TDs 1 INT.
    Most importantly only 3 sacks per team. Running game for both teams averaged a little over 4 yards.
    Game was somewhat of a blowout. I won 41-21. But I'd like to see how the top end CPU teams perform.
    IMO the game played a lot better. I should mention that I play on All-Pro with both CPU and USER Coverages at 100. I'll continue to play this way until there's a definitive man coverage patch. I also tuned the QB accuracies down and WR catch down a bit as well and gave the CPU a slight increase in run block.

    Didn't change many sliders at all since most of them are at default and a NY minute to change QB traits.

    Ah, okay. What difficulty do you use? I've been on All-Madden for my "career" mode as a LB with the Colts and have had mixed results as far as gameplay.

    I'm the same as you, not seeing the sack issue, I am getting maybe a few to many big plays but have yet to play with the patch.
