As mentioned earlier, Madden 26 features six distinct passes, each with a unique throwing procedure. Here are all of them:

  • Touch Pass
  • Bullet Pass
  • Lob Pass
  • High Pass
  • Low Pass
  • Throw the ball away

Let’s break down each one.

Touch Pass

Here, timing is key. To throw a touch pass, hold the button above your desired receiver’s head for nearly half a second or less and release it quickly. For successful execution, precise inputs are vital; otherwise, it won’t be considered a touch pass.

The touch pass is ideal for situations that rely heavily on timed throws and coverage. Such scenarios are common when your receivers are nearby. Upon execution, you’ll have enough arc to dodge defenders while having solid catchability for your receivers.

Bullet Pass

The procedure for throwing a bullet pass is almost identical to a touch pass, but here, you have to hold the button for a little longer. Press and hold the button shown above your desired receiver for a little over half a second. Timing is also key; if you intend to throw a bullet, but let it go too quickly, you’ll throw a touch pass instead.

A bullet pass fits well in scenarios where the coverage is tight and your receivers are close enough to rely on short-range, quick throws. If executed correctly, you can easily squeeze through packed coverage, dodging interception and nearby defenders.

Lob Pass

Throwing a lob pass is pretty simple; just tap the receiver’s button and call it a day. However, make sure it’s just a tap. Pressing the button for even a quarter of a second will result in a touch pass, and holding it further will result in a bullet.

When to use it? Typically, when you are surrounded by competition, using a bullet pass is ideal for covering small distances. But if your receivers are far off in the distance, then making a lob pass is your best bet, since you’ll shoot the ball above the nearby defenders.

High Pass

The high pass doesn’t require you to be accurate with timing; just don’t forget to hold the necessary buttons. Here, all you have to do is hold L1 on PlayStation or LB on Xbox as you perform the pass.

This passing type works well in situations where you want your receiver to out-jump the defender. If your team has a tall receiver, he will exploit the height mismatch and get you free yards. However, keep in mind that the smaller receivers won’t be able to keep up.

Low Pass

Operates similarly to a high pass, but now you will use the triggers on your controller rather than the bumpers. As you throw a pass to your desired receiver, hold L2 on PlayStation or LT on Xbox, and you’ll make a low pass. Whenever you find yourself in a situation that requires action from short, speedy receivers, a low pass is the way to go.

Throw The ball away

To shoot the ball out of the bounds, press R3 on PlayStation or RS on Xbox, and your player will throw the ball away. When you’ve got no receiver in range and open windows to channel the ball through, throwing it away can grant you a second chance at offense. By doing so, you will eliminate the pressure on your QB.

To make things even simpler, here’s a complete table that lists all the pass types in Madden 26, how to perform them, and the ideal situation for every pass.

Type of PassThrowing ProcedureIdeal Situation
Touch PassBriefly hold and release the receiver buttonTight coverage, receivers are nearby
Bullet PassHold the receiver button a little longer than a touch pass and releaseShort-range, quick throws
Lob PassJust tap the receiver button, avoid holding itLong-range, receiver is unmarked
High PassHold L1/LB as you throw the passWhen your receiver is taller than the defender
Low PassHold L2/LT as you throw the passReceiver is short and speedy
Throw the ball awayPress R3/RSHeavy pressure, no receiver in range

That is everything you need to know about all of the passing types in Madden 26. While these are simple to execute, practice each one until you feel comfortable. Additionally, choosing the right passing style is crucial in building a strong offense, so ensure you’re using the correct one.
