Since Kevin Durant faced scrutiny over his alleged burner account controversy, the Houston Rockets star has been avoiding activity on X. Finally, Durant unexpectedly returned to the platform for a reason that had nothing to do with the NBA, basketball, or defending himself. Instead, he resurfaced online to tip his hat off to Pittsburgh Pirates ace pitcher Paul Skenes.
In February, rumors suggested that Durant may have been behind a troll account that was used to take digs at his teammates, NBA opponents and other people online. These accusations dominated social media and mainstream headlines. After this turn of events, Durant had largely stayed quiet on X. When asked about the issue, all he could do was brush it off as nonsense and shift focus to basketball instead.
As reported by Sports Illustrated, it took an impressive performance by Skenes in the 2026 World Baseball Classic to make Durant drop the act and post for the first time since the drama surfaced. Skenes, who is pitching for Team USA, earned high praise from Durant, who attended their game against Team Mexico. On his account, he wrote: “Paul skenes is a dawg.”
Durant Must Have Missed Posting On X
The Pirates star, who wants to assert US supremacy on the international stage, delivered four scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out seven batters. His performance played a key role in the Americans securing a 5-3 victory. He also set a notable benchmark as the highest strikeout total by a Team USA pitcher in the past three editions of the tournament. Durant witnessed all of this greatness. So much so that he was drawn back to the online world.
It was a sudden return for Durant, who is now averaging 26.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists for the Rockets. In February, the majority of his posts revolved around the 2026 All-Star Weekend, some Boardroom content, his Cerave partnership and his usual trolling with fans. His last post was on February 28.
Then everything changed when a series of screenshots claimed that Durant, who was operating under a nickname, was giving unfiltered opinions about notable NBA personalities, such as his Rockets teammates Alperen Sengun and Jabari Smith, and former teammates Devin Booker and Stephen Curry. Because of the controversy, his return became noticeable to fans who follow his posts closely.
No one knows if Durant’s post about Skenes was intentional or had any motive behind it. Perhaps the two-time MVP missed posting so much that he used this as a way to get back to doing one of his favorite hobbies.
