Kevin Durant Accuses The Suns Of Using Him As A Scapegoat After His Departure. He Says The Team Kicked Him Out To Cover Deeper Issues

Kevin Durant claims the Phoenix Suns used him as a scapegoat after his departure.

NBA superstar Kevin Durant has broken his silence regarding his exit from the Phoenix Suns, claiming he was unfairly blamed for the team’s failures. Following a recent victory over his former squad, Durant expressed that he was made a scapegoat for the organizational issues that plagued the Suns during his tenure.

Durant’s frustration stems from the narrative that his arrival in Phoenix was the primary reason the team failed to achieve its championship goals. He pointed out that while he performed at an elite level, the team struggled with roster depth and a lack of defensive identity.

The veteran forward emphasized that he has always been a dedicated professional and felt it was disrespectful to be portrayed as the problem. He noted that the energy in the building shifted toward the end of his time there, making it clear that he was being positioned as the fall guy.

Kevin Durant Claims “Scapegoating” Led to Forced Exit From the Phoenix Suns

In a blunt post-game interview, Kevin Durant used the word kicked out to describe how his time with the Phoenix Suns ended. He revealed that he never actually wanted to leave the city or the franchise, but the organization made it clear he was no longer welcome.

Durant explained that being “scapegoated” felt particularly painful because of the effort he put into the community and the team. He felt that despite his high scoring and All-Star appearances, the blame for early playoff exits was placed squarely on his shoulders.

The trade to Houston was the first time in Durant’s storied career that he felt he was booted from a building against his will. Unlike his previous departures from teams like Golden State or Brooklyn, this move felt personal rather than professional.

Durant Reveals Emotional Toll Of Unexpected Trade To Houston

While Kevin Durant is now finding success with the Houston Rockets, he admitted that the sudden trade took a significant emotional toll on him. He spoke about the difficulty of uprooting his life after genuinely trying to build something special in Arizona.

Durant shared that the move left him feeling isolated, as he had invested all his love and care into the Phoenix area. Seeing himself traded in a massive seven-team deal made him feel like a piece of a puzzle rather than a valued leader.

Ultimately, hitting a game-winner against the Suns provided a sense of closure for Durant, but it didn’t erase the hurt of the past year. He noted that playing with a chip on his shoulder helped him channel his frustration into his performance on the court. Despite the messy breakup, Durant is focused on his new chapter in Houston, though the sting of his Phoenix exit remains a part of his journey.
