Joy Reid isn’t happy with Stephen A. Smith, and this time, perhaps her anger might be justified. The ESPN host recently commented on the killing of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent.
Smith has been throwing out more political statements on his platform lately. Smith spoke from a legal standpoint about the ICE Agent fatally shooting Good, who was an unarmed woman, claiming that he was ‘completely justified.’ His recent comments about the fatal shooting have attracted a lot of negative press.
These comments caught the attention of Reid as well, who isn’t particularly fond of Smith and has criticized him before as well. Reid fired some shots at the Straight Shooter, urging him to stick to sports rather than speaking about tragic incidents.
“From a lawful perspective, I think you might need stick to sports,” Reid said. “What I’m saying, Stephen, personally, is that you wouldn’t have an education without men like Cleveland Sellers, nor the freedom to be loud and wrong while claiming Jasmine Crockett is loud and wrong, while you’re crying out for people to respect Donald Trump.”
Smith Said That The Agent Who Shot Nicole Renee Good Was Justified
Renee Nicole Good was a 37-year-old woman who was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minnesota. Stephen A. Smith somehow claimed that from a legal perspective, the agent was justified in his actions.
Smith has claimed that the event was undoubtedly a tragedy and the shooting was completely unnecessary. However, he believes the legal threshold for the incident was met. The ESPN commentator argued that when a driver refused to obey the orders of a federal agent the law supports the actions of open firing.
Smith maintained that he’s not overlooking the indescribable pain caused to Good’s family in the wake of this tragedy. But, he still doubled down that the law functions on specific rules that allow the use of force in these circumstances.
Smith’s Comments About The Shooting Triggered Backlash From Others As Well
Joy Reid wasn’t the only one who took offense to Stephen A. Smith’s comments about the Minnesota shooting. Many others were outraged about the fact that the ESPN host continued to defend the ICE agent’s terrible actions that led to the death of an unarmed woman.
Some people called him a ‘moron’ who has never faced any tough situations in his life.
Even though Smith only offered a legal perspective, it triggered an emotional backlash from the community at large. There are certainly different perspectives on the story, but the event was a horrible tragedy that unfortunately claimed the life of Renee Nicole Good.
