Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has openly shared which team he is supporting in Super Bowl LX. Allen, who leads one of the NFL’s most recognizable offenses, was asked about the upcoming title game during a television appearance and responded with thoughtful reflection on a close personal connection that influenced his choice.
Allen’s season with the Bills came to an end following a playoff loss, and he has since been focused on recovery from a foot injury. He was unable to participate in the Pro Bowl festivities. Despite the disappointment of not playing in the league’s championship game, Allen said this year’s Super Bowl holds personal significance for him because of his friendship with Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold.
According to Newsweek, Allen explained on First Things First why he has a rooting interest in the Seattle Seahawks-New England Patriots matchup. “Sam Darnold, that’s my boy,” Allen said. He went on to describe the bond he shares with Darnold, which dates back to their early NFL careers. Allen recounted that their friendship began around the time of the NFL Draft and that they spent time together even before entering the league.
Allen And Darnold Have Been Friends For A Long Time
“We go back to the draft. Even before the draft, we’d hung out at the Touchdown Club of Columbus, going into his sophomore year and my junior year,” Allen said. The two also lived near each other and spent portions of the offseason playing golf and spending time together, a routine that helped solidify their connection.
Allen, who recently spoke about being a father, made it clear that his support stems from friendship rather than rivalries or where teams stand in the league. Despite the Bills’ fierce competition with the Patriots in the AFC East, he emphasized his personal motivation. “I’m rooting for my man there, who is wearing number 14 for the Seattle Seahawks,” he said, referencing Darnold’s jersey number.
This season has been particularly meaningful for Darnold, who has experienced a resurgence in his career. After several years of uncertainty and transitions between teams, the quarterback found stability with the Seahawks and played a key role in guiding them to the Super Bowl.
Throughout his own career, Allen has been known for his competitive spirit and determination to lead the Bills to a Super Bowl, something that has eluded him so far. As much as Allen’s focus remains on winning a championship for Buffalo, his encouragement of Darnold and the Seahawks speaks to the bonds that form over years of shared experience in the league.
