John Cena has a way of calling out any unfair acts. Whether that’s in professional wrestling or in real life, he’s known to always set the record straight. Years ago, he did it in a very classy way with the hosts of Pardon My Take.
Cena is one of the most friendly athletes to grace the world of Hollywood. He has truly embraced his new career in acting and loves to give his due time in promoting any of his upcoming projects. However, one time while promoting the first season of the hit show Peacemaker, things got a bit awkward for him when he was asked an uncomfortable question. The video has recently made the rounds again.
He appeared in an interview for Pardon My Take around the time of COVID-19. During the podcast, Cena was asked about a rumor that he had died of the disease, to which he responded with the importance of fact-checking. However, the hosts would continue taking it as a comedy routine and ask if Cena wanted to go along with the rumors. The Suicide Squad star would then become quite serious with his response immediately afterward.
“I know you guys are trying to have some fun. I just lost a really close friend two days ago. So when I say something like that, and you take the smile off your face.”
The Hosts Pushed Early And Cena Quickly Drew A Line
John Cena is famously known to be very friendly to all of his fans. He enjoys all the love he gets and is always straightforward and thankful in his approach. So, it seems quite wild to all of us that he got pushed to shut the podcast hosts down.
While they didn’t say anything necessarily too out of line, it seems COVID-19 was a sensitive topic for Cena at the time. The 17-time WWE World Champion knew the hosts were only trying to have fun, but set his boundaries around it in a classy manner. He didn’t admonish anyone and made sure to tell them an emotional story about the loss of one of his close friends.
“Loss is a really tough thing, I don’t think, especially at this point… the fragile nature of human life is a headline to grab. So, I know what you’re trying to do. I can’t fault you for trying, but in taking a moment to reflect on the passing of a good, close friend of mine…I just don’t think that’s the right avenue for me to go down.”
Cena’s honesty is refreshing to see, and he didn’t let his feelings about the topic overwhelm him either. The WWE Legend maturely addressed the hosts before continuing with the rest of the interview.
Fans Praised Cena For Handling The Situation With Honesty And Respect
