Comedian Jimmy Kimmel recently spoke about the controversy around Bill Belichick not getting into the Hall of Fame. He defended the coach’s achievements while also making fun of his personal relationship. It’s surprising that Belichick didn’t get in during his first year of eligibility, given his amazing career.
He’s the most successful coach in NFL history. He has won eight Super Bowls and is only 14 wins away from breaking Don Shula’s all-time record when you count both regular season and playoff games.Kimmel agreed that Belichick deserved to be in the Hall of Fame, just like many critics and even President Trump have said. But the comedian couldn’t resist making a joke about the coach’s controversial dating life.
“Bill Belichick is a bit of a jerk and a bit of a cheater, but he absolutely should have been voted into the Hall of Fame,” Kimmel said, according to The Daily Mail. He then added: “The guy has been winning Super Bowls longer than his girlfriend has been alive.”
Kimmel’s defense comes with a pointed jab at the legendary coach
Reports say the decision to delay Belichick’s entry wasn’t just about his coaching record. Some sources claim that former Indianapolis Colts General Manager Bill Polian told voters to wait a year because of the scandals Belichick was involved in during his career. However, Polian completely denies saying this.
Many people have criticized the Hall of Fame for not letting Belichick in right away. Former players, past rivals, and President Donald Trump have all said he should have been included immediately. Kimmel rarely agrees with President Trump, but he did on this issue, though he still took the chance to mock Belichick.
Kimmel’s joke was about Belichick’s relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson. This relationship has gotten a lot of attention since it became public in 2024. The large age gap is what really catches people’s interest and gave Kimmel plenty of material for his show. Similar to Mike Tomlin’s wife addressing cheating rumors, public figures often face intense scrutiny over their personal lives. The couple faced a lot of public attention in 2025.
Things became especially uncomfortable when Hudson interrupted an interview Belichick was doing with CBS Sunday Morning, stopping questions about their relationship. There were also questions about Hudson’s involvement in Belichick’s business and her role at the University of North Carolina athletic department.
However, it later turned out she only handled the coach’s personal matters. Athletes and coaches face constant media attention, much like Derrick Rose’s unusual statue controversy shows how sports legends navigate public perception.
