Jones gets the ultimate say over every major decision for the Dallas Cowboys. As the owner of the team, everything has to go through him. So, it’s pretty likely he made the final call for the Cowboys’ firing of their defensive coordinator, Matt Eberflus.

The Cowboys’ owner appeared in a press conference and was asked about how much authority Brian Schottenheimer holds in the hiring. Jones somehow brought up the Trump Administration’s recent invasion operation of Venezuela. It ultimately led to the capture of the country’s dictator, Nicolas Maduro. It seems that Jones was suggesting that he’s going to decide on the hiring.

Jones Doubled Down On Eberflus’ Firing After The Trump And Venezuela Comment

The Dallas Cowboys recently fired their defensive coordinator, Matt Eberflus, after finishing the season. Eferblus’ tactics failed to yield any results, with the Cowboys performing terribly throughout the whole season and missing the playoffs.

After he was done making everyone laugh with the Donald Trump and Venezuela reference, Jones spoke further about firing their defensive coordinator. He stated that it was completely Brian Schottenheimer’s idea to bring him in. He doubled down on the point that there wouldn’t have been any way Eberflus would’ve made it to the Cowboys if Schottenheimer didn’t want him.

Schotty had everything to do with hiring Matt Eberflus last time, and that’s not done as a negative … No way in the world he’s here if Schotty didn’t want him here. Okay, let me be real clear about that. He can tell you in his own words there,”

He even commented that he was excited about the prospect of Eberflus’s unique staff producing something. However, it all got worse for them on the field. It looks like Jones will need to take matters into his own hands to hire a better fit for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys Need To Have A Proper Discussion

The Dallas Cowboys fans really suffered seeing their team perform poorly almost every other game. They finished the season in last place in pass defense and scoring defense.

A huge chunk of that blame largely fell upon Matt Eberflus and his staff. The people at the helm have clarified they’re conducting an intense search to replace their defensive coordinator. Hopefully, for their fans’ sake, they find one to produce better results next season.
