Former Eagles star Jason Kelce has some strong words about what’s going wrong with Jalen Hurts lately. The veteran center wants the Philadelphia quarterback to run the ball more often. Kelce believes that when Hurts uses his legs the right way, it gives such a big advantage that it’s “almost like cheating.”
According to The Spun, Kelce shared his thoughts during an interview with 94WIP in Philadelphia. He pointed out that in the Eagles’ recent losses, Hurts has been focusing more on passing than rushing. Kelce thinks this is the main problem that needs to be fixed, especially since the team has been struggling lately.
According to Kelce, any quarterback who can run has a clear advantage over the defense. It forces defensive coordinators to plan for 11 threats instead of just 10. This isn’t just a small bonus either. Kelce says Hurts’ running ability has been a major reason for the team’s success during his time with the Eagles.
Hurts’ mobility makes life too easy for the offense
“It’s an unquestioned advantage to be able to do quarterback runs,” Kelce said. “I would like to see them do more runs, I’m not going to lie.” He explained that when Hurts runs, the offense works much better. “You get such better angles, the numbers are better, it makes life easy. It’s almost like cheating. And it’s been a big reason why the Eagles have been successful on the ground game throughout Hurts’ tenure.”
Many Eagles fans agree with what Kelce is saying. They see Hurts as a true dual-threat player, not just someone who throws from the pocket. While he can pass well, what really makes him dangerous is his ability to run. Jason Kelce has been making headlines recently, including his shocking reaction to Keanu Reeves on their podcast. When defenses know Hurts won’t take off running, they can focus on stopping other players like Saquon Barkley.
The numbers back this up too. During the team’s 4-0 start, Hurts picked up 21 first downs with his legs. But during the next 4-4 stretch, that number dropped to just 12 first downs. This big drop shows how important his rushing is for keeping drives alive and keeping defenses guessing.
Some fans wonder if the Eagles are trying to keep Hurts healthy for the playoffs in January. Others question whether he’s lost some speed after taking hits over the years. The Kelce brothers have discussed serious moments about player safety concerns on their show before. Either way, if he has the ability, he should use it to win games now.
The Eagles are 8-4 and still in good playoff position. They lead the Dallas Cowboys by two games and have an easier schedule coming up. The big question now is whether Hurts will listen to Kelce’s advice. If he starts running more like he did earlier in the season, the Eagles should be in great shape heading into the playoffs.
