Jake Paul’s family is opening up about one of the most dramatic moments in the YouTuber-turned-boxer’s life. In her memoir F**k the Pauls: Written by Their Mother, his mother, Pam Stepnick, describes the day federal agents served a search warrant at his $8 million Calabasas mansion.
The search happened on August 5, 2020, as part of a federal investigation tied to a riot and looting incident at Scottsdale Fashion Square mall earlier that year. Local misdemeanor charges involving Paul were dismissed so the federal probe could proceed, and no federal charges were ultimately filed.
Jake Paul’s Mom Recalled FBI Agents Serving a Search Warrant at His $8 Million Mansion
Pam Stepnick says the morning in August 2020 still feels unreal. That was the day FBI agents served a federal search warrant at her son’s Calabasas mansion during an investigation linked to the Arizona mall incident.
News reporting at the time said multiple firearms and other items were seized during the search, and Paul was not at home when the warrant was executed.
In her memoir, Pam says she was caught completely off guard when she heard what was happening. “I ran out of my dermatologist appointment and sank to the floor in the building’s stairwell. My heart was racing.”
She says the situation spiraled fast once it hit the news cycle. “The story was picked up in national publications. I was unraveling.” Pam also insists she never believed Jake did anything that deserved that kind of federal attention. “I knew my son had not done anything that merited the freaking FBI’s attention, much less the whole country’s attention.”
Pam notes that Jake was still focused on boxing during the chaos. “At the time of the raid, Jake was training for his next boxing match.”
She Shared the Detail She Says She’ll Never Forget From That Day
Pam’s recollection is personal, rooted in the fear and confusion of knowing federal agents were at her son’s home. She says it felt like her world flipped in real time.
She says one part that stuck with her most was watching, from afar, helicopters overhead and seeing video of agents at the mansion on national television. “The FBI searched Jake’s home, looking for God knows what. As I watched helicopters circle around his mansion, I thought, ‘What the hell is happening?’”
For many readers, her reaction is more relatable than the legal details. It’s a reminder that behind every headline is a family dealing with real stress and real consequences.
Pam also wrote about how intense the media coverage felt. She says seeing the footage again and again made her feel exposed and frustrated.
She recounts scenes that made her feel sick, like watching video of cameras and laptops being taken from the property, equipment tied to Jake’s social media and content creation. “When I saw video footage of the FBI confiscating Team 10 cameras, the social media label Jake had founded, and laptops on the news over and over and over again, I was disgusted. In my heart, I knew there were no bad intentions on Jake’s part.”
In her telling, she believed the investigation would not lead anywhere. “I watched the video while shaking my head. This investigation will go nowhere. There’s nothing to find. And I was right. The charges were dropped. I was frustrated. It felt like another media grab.”
In the end, she notes, no federal charges were filed after the search, and the local charges had already been dismissed. Pam writes that she felt frustrated and saw the raid as another media grab rather than something with legal consequence.
