The loss to Joshua, a former two-time world heavyweight champion, proved that the step up in competition was a massive challenge. While Paul showed resilience by surviving until the sixth round, the technical gap between an influencer-turned-boxer and an elite professional was clear.

Despite the disappointment, the fight was a massive financial success, drawing millions of viewers on Netflix. However, from a sporting perspective, the defeat has halted the momentum Paul had built over the last few years.

Jake Paul Suffered A Nasty Injury During The Fight

The physical toll of the match was much more severe than many fans initially realized. During the final moments of the fight, a powerful right hand from Anthony Joshua connected cleanly, resulting in a double fracture of Jake Paul’s jaw.

Following the event, Paul shared updates with his followers showing that he had to undergo surgery to repair the damage. The procedure involved fitting titanium plates into his jaw and removing several teeth that were damaged by the impact.

Medical experts and Paul’s own team have confirmed that the recovery process will be a long one. A broken jaw in two places is a nasty injury that carries long-term risks if not healed properly. Because of the severity of the fracture, the Florida Athletic Commission has placed Paul under an indefinite medical suspension, meaning he cannot step back into a professional ring until he is fully cleared by doctors.

He’s Set To Take A Break From Boxing

In light of his injury and the recent ranking setback, Jake Paul has announced that he will be taking an extended break from the sport of boxing. He admitted that the last six years of constant training and high-pressure fights have been exhausting.

One of the main reasons for this break is to support his fiancée, Jutta Leerdam, as she prepares for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics. Paul expressed his desire to be there for her during this important time in her career, signaling a shift in his priorities for the first half of the year.

While some critics wonder if this break signals the end of his career, Paul insists he is not retiring. He plans to use this reset to evaluate his next moves and eventually return to the cruiserweight class, which is a more natural weight for his frame. For now, the Problem Child will be staying on the sidelines, focusing on recovery and supporting his loved ones before attempting a comeback later in 2026.
