Lindsey Vonn is adamant about her Olympic return. She is trying to make history by staging a comeback from a career that everyone felt was over. In doing so, Lindsey Vonn is also ready to overlook any injuries that may stop her. Her recent ACL tear was nothing in front of her aspirations as she raced downhill on Friday. According to ESPN, Lindsey Vonn had a practice run on Friday before her much-awaited race.
Vonn finished 11th after her first official turn at the Olympia delle Tofane before the big race. Her personal coach and former Olympic downhill champion, Aksel Lund Svindal, revealed her mentality going into the practice runs, “She was smart. She didn’t go all-in. She made a mistake on the bottom, but the rest looked like just good skiing, but no big risk. And to me it looked symmetrical.”
Although everyone is celebrating her return to the downhill, her coach is still worried about her injury. He displays full confidence in her ability and willpower, but still stays skeptical about the possible consequences. “Because this is important for everyone, everyone, right? If this works, it’s awesome. If something happens, it will be bad,” he said. “But she’s been very committed since the first day, and she’s convinced this will work.”
She Has Ignored Warnings Before And She Will Do It Again
Lindsey Vonn may be back in the Olympics, but it’s not like she has a perfect body. Over the years, her body has been battered and bruised to the point that she had to take a necessary retirement from her Olympic dreams. A big reason for her major injuries is the fact that she chooses to stretch her body beyond the limit and ignore subtle warnings.
This felt like race day to me because it’s very important. How she feels today is the confidence that will let her decide how hard she can go. … You know her history. She’s gone hard at times when people have told her she shouldn’t probably be in the start even, so I have no doubt that she will go hard at the start and attack on Sunday.
Vonn is literally racing downhill with titanium in her knee. A simple mistake may destroy her entire life ahead. She is just good enough to walk comfortably, but she is pushing beyond the limits again. As of now, she is pretty confident that she end her Olympic chapter with the glory of a medal.
