It’s been a big month for NBA The Run, as the game finally has a concrete release date, price point, and two different editions for players to buy. The spiritual successor to the NBA Street franchise for many players, NBA The Run certainly has some big shoes to fill, but the developers seem to be taking player feedback from the recent beta tests seriously.
Still, some players might not even consider purchasing NBA The Run unless they can squad up with their friends. While you might be lucky enough to have all your friends on one platform, what about those who have friends on different platforms? Below, we’ll go through whether NBA The Run has crossplay support and how it might work.
Does NBA The Run Have Crossplay Support?
Luckily, for any player with a friend on a different system, NBA The Run is confirmed to offer full crossplay support when it launches on June 9, 2026. This means you can play with any player across all platforms, which includes PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

In all likelihood, crossplay in NBA The Run will require you to send friend invites using a dedicated code included with your account. Once you send your friend code to another player, they can send a friend request and invite you to their lobby or vice versa. There will also likely be a friends list that you can use to send out party invites and join any friends you’ve added.
However, it’s important to keep in mind that NBA The Run is a maximum three-player game, as all of the matches are either solo or 3v3. This means you and up to two other friends can play together, which might mean you have to break up your squad of five players that you run NBA 2K matches with.
NBA The Run is also online-only, so there’s no option to play offline against your friends locally. We don’t have a solid idea of all of the game modes NBA The Run will offer at launch, but you can expect a majority of your multiplayer matches to be in the regular, 3v3 style.
Can You Disable Crossplay In NBA The Run?
As for players who might not want to participate in crossplay, matchmaking in NBA The Run is said to make full use of the game’s player base. This likely means there won’t be a dedicated way to disable crossplay at launch, as the developers seemingly want players to find matches quickly by keeping the player base in one large matchmaking pool.
So, even if your party of three players is all on the same platform or you’re playing solo, you can presumably still be matched against players on different platforms. While this doesn’t mean much to PC players, PS5 and Xbox users might be a little wary of cheaters on PC when matchmaking. If that becomes too much of a problem, however, the developers would likely look into ways to prevent console players from matching against PC players.
