WNBA guard Sophie Cunningham has never been shy about sharing her opinions. Whether it is about basketball, life outside the court, or relationships, the Indiana Fever player tends to speak candidly with fans. Recently, she once again showed that side of her personality when she discussed her dating preferences on her podcast.
According to The Spun, the caller explained that he stands around six feet tall and tends to find tall women, including those around Cunningham’s height, very attractive. At the same time, he acknowledged that some women prefer dating taller men. Curious about Cunningham’s perspective, he asked whether men of his height still had a chance with taller women or if they should expect to date someone shorter.
Cunningham responded honestly and did not try to soften her stance. She admitted that height plays a significant role in how she approaches dating. The WNBA veteran made it clear that she personally would not pursue a relationship with someone who is shorter than she is. “I don’t think I’m the right tall person to ask, because I could never date someone shorter than me,” Cunningham said. “Because I’m already big. So, I want someone who is going to make me feel smaller.”
Cunningham Doesn’t Like Short Guys
Cunningham stands at 6-foot-1, which means she is taller than the average woman and even many men. Because of that, she explained that being with someone taller helps her feel more comfortable in a relationship dynamic. Still, she acknowledged that plenty of couples exist where the woman is taller than the man.
“But there are so many guys who have taller girls!” Cunningham added during the conversation. Even though she recognizes that many people are perfectly happy in those relationships, she admitted that the arrangement simply would not feel natural for her personally. “I think people have really good energy, and I love so many people. I just can’t, I would just feel like the man in my relationship.”
While Cunningham’s comment sparked attention online, it also reflected the same unfiltered style she often brings to her podcast. The show has become a platform where she regularly shares personal thoughts and experiences that fans might not normally hear from professional athletes.
Beyond her relationship talk, Cunningham, who recently got trolled by Caitlin Clark, has been a recognizable figure in the WNBA for several years. She spent the first six seasons of her career with the Phoenix Mercury before moving to the Indiana Fever. Known for her toughness and outside shooting, she built a reputation as a valuable role player who can stretch the floor and bring energy off the bench.
During her most recent season, Cunningham, who has more recently expressed her dating preferences, averaged 8.6 points while shooting an impressive 43.2 percent from three-point range. However, her campaign with Indiana was cut short after she suffered a knee injury that ended her season early.
Even with that setback, her popularity continues to grow. Cunningham has built a significant social media presence with millions of followers across Instagram and TikTok. Her mix of personality, style, and candid opinions has helped her connect with fans far beyond the basketball court.
As the WNBA works through collective bargaining negotiations and players wait for clarity about the league’s future, Cunningham has kept busy with media appearances and podcast episodes that give fans a closer look at her personality.
