Saints defensive end Cam Jordan is taking back his controversial comments about quarterback Josh Allen. He says people got too upset about a simple debate topic and needed to calm down. The star defensive player is trying to fix the situation after getting criticized for saying Allen can’t win big playoff games.
According to TMZ Sports, Jordan said he was just answering a question during a televised sports debate. He used a “process of elimination” to reach his answer. He thinks the backlash was way too much. Jordan explained how he came to his opinion, which involved comparing Allen with two other top quarterbacks who are trying to win a championship.
“Everybody get snippets … we were talking about Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson,” Jordan said. “‘Who’s up for a Super Bowl?’ In my mind, it was a process of elimination. Joe Burrow’s already been to one, Josh Allen, it should have been this year, so I said Lamar Jackson is up next.”
Super Bowl rings remain the ultimate measure of quarterback greatness
Jordan used the chance to repeat his bigger point that Super Bowl rings are the most important way to measure quarterbacks. He said even when talking about legends with huge career achievements, the talk always comes back to championships.
He noted, “When they talk about quarterbacks, all the accolades Drew Brees has, what do they say first? Did he win a Super Bowl?” He continued, explaining, “For whatever reason, when a quarterback gets in or doesn’t get in, we talk about his Super Bowls.”
Jordan said his comment wasn’t meant as a permanent attack on Allen’s entire career. NFL stories can change very quickly. He pointed to how Sam Darnold has been rewriting his own career story recently, showing that things can turn around fast. Sports controversies aren’t new, as seen when a Vikings announcer recently resigned over controversial remarks.
Jordan made it clear that Allen isn’t the only one facing this kind of judgment. He warned that if another top quarterback doesn’t win a title soon, they will face the same criticism. “If Lamar doesn’t win one, then we’ll be saying the same thing about him that we say about Josh Allen,” Jordan added.
Jordan wrapped up by saying he was just answering the debate question that was asked. “But for right now, with the question posed, I was just doing process of elimination. And apparently, I hurt feelings.” The NFL world has seen several public disputes recently, including when Emmitt Smith criticized the Browns’ treatment of a top prospect.
He’s joking about the fan anger, even making fun of the backlash. He sarcastically suggested he might have to make peace with the team’s fans by smashing through one of their tables later. Jordan wants everyone to know there is no personal drama between him and Allen. “There never was beef,” he said, before adding with a grin, “Unless you’re an offensive lineman … then there always is.”
