To say Jacksonville Jaguars prospect Travis Hunter and his wife Leanna have had a tumultuous relationship with social media would be putting it mildly. Amidst Hunter’s landmark final year with Colorado before being drafted No. 2 overall in the NFL Draft, his then-fiancée, now-wife Leanna, faced scrutiny on social media due to many perceiving her to be less than enthusiastic on the sidelines during a game (via TMZ). In response to the massive amount of criticism both faced online, Travis and Leanna later deactivated their social media accounts. Since then, however, both have returned to social media.
Yesterday, Leanna shared a video on her TikTok account of her being emotional around December 2024, right as the online scrutiny and harassment had reached a fever pitch.
Leanna Hunter Posts An Emotional Video To Her TikTok
In the video she posted to her TikTok account, the original audio cannot be heard. Instead, there seems to be an overdub of a church paster reading a sermon about women. “And when God gets ready to make you a great woman, you’ll know he’s gonna make you great by how you suffer,” the overdub says.
Leanna’s caption on the video echoes similar sentiments, talking about how different she is now than she was then, crediting that change to her Christian faith.
I wish I could go back and hug December me, because oh baby, God was about to change your heart in the most important and beautiful way. I don’t even recognize this girl anymore. The amount you can [grow] and develop in just 6 months of devoting your life to Jesus and getting away from the shackles of the world and social media is truly astounding.”
To be fair, a lot has changed since then. Not only did she insulate herself from the toxic environment that is social media, but Leanna and Hunter were married back in May. On top of that, Hunter seems to have been very supportive throughout the entire ordeal, dishing out some pointed remarks towards the baseless online speculation about their relationship.
Leanna Hunter’s Social Media Post Is Very Telling
I’ve mentioned this before, but the amount of parasocial nonsense that is seen on social media is honestly atrocious. And Leanna deactivating her social media and retreating into a bathroom to cry about the ordeal just goes to show how much power this kind of stuff can have on someone.
Just imagine for a second being with your high school sweetheart, standing by them through college, and then being present once they take the next step in their career, only for a bunch of no-names to bombard you with harassment regarding your intentions or who you really are. You don’t know these people, and they don’t know you. But they’ll blab to anyone listening about their thoughts on you.
Sounds exhausting, doesn’t it? And this entire situation is a very important reminder that these aren’t just emotionless drones who pose for pictures and make appearances — these are actual human beings with feelings.
