How To Set A Screen in NBA 2K25

Run the pick and roll!

Screens are one of the most fundamental plays you can run on offense in NBA 2K25. Even a basic screen can open up a world of possibilities for your offensive game plan, as it allows for several different actions after they occur. You can choose to go with a pick and roll to try and get an easy bucket or use the screen to brush off a defender and have a clear shot at the basket.

Anyway you slice it, screens are an invaluable tool to use on offense, but they’re worthless if you don’t know how to call one in 2K25. Similar to other plays, you need to press a certain button to call for a screen, but there are different kinds of screens you can call that require separate buttons to be pressed. Below, you can see the different screens you can call in NBA 2K25 and how to use them to make sure you always know how to set a screen.

How To Call A Screen In NBA 2K25

There are two different types of screens you can call while on offense. The first is a screen that’s set by a CPU-selected player, giving you less control over the screen itself, and the second is a screen where you specifically call for a player to set one. Basically, you can call for an automatic or manual screen, and each has its place depending on the situation.

To call an automatic screen in 2K25, all you have to do is follow the steps below:

  • Start by having the ball in the hands of the player you want to set the screen for
  • While controlling the ball handler, press and hold LB/L1 to make the ball handler get ready for a screen
  • Next, press RB/R1, and the CPU will select a player to come set a screen for your ball handler
  • You can also move the left joystick to position your ball handler better for the screen depending on what side it’s coming from

While this is a simple way to call for a screen, it doesn’t always work correctly. For example, if you want to run a pick and roll, you need the player setting the screen to be your Center or a taller player so you can pass them the ball as they roll towards the basket. However, automatically having the CPU select the player can result in one of your smaller players setting the screen, which throws off your plan.

To manually select the player that sets the screen, follow these steps:

  • Follow the same steps with your ball handler that we went over in the automatic screen steps list
  • Once your ball handler is positioned correctly and you’re holding LB/L1, look around at your other four players
  • Each will have a designated button above their head. Find the player you want to come set the screen and then press the button over their head
  • After you do that, the player you selected will come set the screen for your ball handler, and you can continue on with your play from there

This is almost always the better way to call screens, as it doesn’t take any extra time to find the player you want to set the screen and it will always be the right player. As we’ve previously mentioned, it’s often the best idea to have a taller player come set the screen to free up the paint, allow your perimeter players to move around, and give your ball handler a little extra space to work with. You can also use your big man to run a pick and roll with after they’ve set the screen.

That’s all we have on setting screens in NBA 2K25. It’s a simple process that you’ll soon master after some practice.
