MyCareer is one of the most enjoyable game modes that NBA 2K25 has to offer. It allows you to create a player and see them progress through an entire basketball journey with you at the helm, guiding their every move. At the beginning of MyCareer, you’ll be drafted to your first team, which you can help influence if you want. However, sometimes you end up not liking the team that drafted you for one reason or another. If this happens to you, then you might ponder asking for a trade in 2K25.
If you’re reading this guide, then you likely have no idea how to go about requesting a trade, or you’re trying to see the steps to get traded in MyCareer. In any case, we have all of the details about getting traded in 2K25 in the guide below. As a warning, though, be prepared to put in some work on your first team before you get the chance to play for another one.
How To Get Traded In NBA 2K25

Unfortunately for anyone who doesn’t like the team that drafted them, there’s no way to get traded or even released from that team during your rookie season. As a rookie, you have to push through your first season regardless of your playing time or how bad or injured your team is. While many players in MyCareer think it’s just their rookie season that has to go like this, it goes a little further than that.
In NBA 2K25, you also can’t request a trade during your second season. This is primarily due to the new “Heart of a Dynasty” narrative in 2K25, which prevents you from swapping teams until after your second season. This is a major change from previous MyCareer modes in 2K, as past games allowed you to get traded once your rookie season was complete.
2K25 now makes it so you either have to finish out your rookie contract to become a free agent to switch teams or request a trade after you’ve won two NBA Finals with the team that drafted you. So, in theory, you can get traded after your second season in the NBA. However, this is only contingent on your team winning the Finals in your first two years as a player.
When you do request a trade after winning the Finals twice, the game does warn you about messing up the Heart of a Dynasty storyline. Of course, these quests aren’t a major part of MyCareer if you don’t want them to be, so you don’t have to pay too much attention to that warning if the storyline doesn’t interest you too much.
If you don’t end up winning the Finals twice, then you have a couple of options. The first option is to simply wait until your contract has expired with the team that drafted you and become a free agent so you can sign with another team. This isn’t the same as being traded, but it does allow you to earn more money if your performance has been strong during your first few years.
The second option is to wait a year or two following your first two seasons. Eventually, the option to request a trade becomes available in MyCareer once you’ve logged enough service time with a team. Once the option to request a trade is available, you can pick the new team you want to go to, and your current team will honor that request.
That’s all we have on requesting a trade in NBA 2K25 MyCareer. 2K has certainly made it more difficult to get off your initial team, but at least now you know what you have to do to make a change.
