A rainbow flick is a trick used while dribbling to dodge defenders. A player will move the ball backwards and flick it forwards over the opposition player’s head. This is a cheeky tactic that can get you across many top-tier defenders, especially once your hands are set on it.

Unlike most tricks, there are three versions of the rainbow flick:

  • Standard
  • Advanced
  • Flair

The standard version requires your player to have a 4-star skills rating, while the other two require a 5-star skills rating. Let me first explain how each version is done.

Standard Rainbow Flick

For the standard version, all you need to do is flick the right stick backwards and then quickly flick it forward. This will perform the standard rainbow flick, and it gets the job done more often than not.

Advanced Rainbow Flick

The advanced version requires a 5-star skills rating and has one extra step. First, you flick the right stick backwards, then hold forward, and finally flick forward to complete an advanced rainbow flick. This simply adds a bit of complexity to the move and looks cooler on the field.

Flair Rainbow Flick

The final version is the flair version. It’s an additional step before performing the advanced rainbow flick. Hold L1 (for PlayStation) or LB (for Xbox), flick the right stick backwards, hold forward, and then quickly flick it forward. This will execute a flair rainbow flick.

Even though there are very slight differences between each version, the flair rainbow flick is best for breaking through tight defences, especially when you’re pushing solo.

When To Use The Rainbow Flick?

Every trick is optimized to work best in certain situations. Before using the rainbow flick, make sure your player has the required skills rating. Now, the best time to use the rainbow flick is when you have a single defender on you coming from in front. You can easily use this technique to flick the ball over their head.

On the other hand, if a defender is coming from the back, he could probably just steal the ball when you flick it backwards, making it risky. Make sure you know when the rainbow flick is useful in EA FC 26 instead of just spamming it and losing possession.
