Today, we’re going to take you through how to create a character in NBA 2K25. NBA 2K25 gives you a wide range of different customizations to help you fine-tune your character. This lets us add our personality into the game through their looks, play style, and the way they will approach the basket for dunks and layups.

Luckily, NBA 2K25 makes the character-creating process super straightforward. So, even though there is a wide range of options, you can simply work down the list and only edit the features relevant to you.

How To Find Create A Player

Along the main menu, go to Features > Create a Player. Once you press this button, you will get the option to choose between the NBA or the WNBA league. This choice lets you choose whether you are creating a male or female custom character.

Once you select the league, you will see a list of the custom players you already have. As you’re reading this guide, you probably won’t have any, so the only choice for you to select will be Add New Player. You will return to this if you want to adjust your different players.

How To Create A Player – Info And Looks

Vitals

The vitals will take you through the basic details of your created character, including their name, nickname, position, birthday, and any other background information. Entering this information will give you a more immersive feel when playing the game, as commentators will mention these stats.

This category also allows you to choose your jersey number and dominant hand, as well as a range of stats for your character. It is worth going through the entire list to get the most out of your custom character.

Appearance

The appearance section gives you a gird of preset looks that you can use as a starting point for your character.

Pressing triangle on PlayStation, or Y on Xbox, will open an in-depth customization menu, allowing you complete control over all facial features.

Body

Editing your player’s body in NBA 2K25 is important, as height and weight can affect how your character plays. In this section, you can also edit other body proportions to a fine detail.

Tattoos

Now, the bit that everyone loves to go overboard with — the tattoos. NBA 2K25 has a bunch of tattoo selections to choose from and also provides a way to fine-tune the placement and size of each piece of ink.

Once you select the tattoo, press the shoulder buttons on your controllers to cycle through the different areas of the body. After you have your position, you can go on to add more or go back to the main Create A Player menu.

Shoes/Gear

The Shoes/Gear area lets you select your character’s preferences for their uniform. Obviously, you can select shoes, but you can also select the shorts type, shorts length, undershirt, and more.

I like how this area allows you to choose different options between Home and Away games. This means that if you have pre-selected the team for your created player, you can match your sneakers to each different color scheme.

Accessories

The Accessories section is the best way to add personal style to your character. Here, you can add all the extra features to make your character unique from other players.

There are so many options to edit in this section, so it can be easy to go overboard. I always think it’s best to create a natural-looking style. You also might not want to add any at all.

How To Create A Player – Stats And Play Style

Attributes

Attributes in NBA 2K25 define how good a player is. You can set these numbers however you like, even maxing them out to 99, which will make your created character the best player in the game.

I personally find that this ruins how you play the game, so I find it more fun to create characters with realistic attributes. A good idea is to focus your attributes on what you value most, or copy another player’s attributes you wish to emulate.

Tendencies

The Tendencies will define how this character acts in different situations. This mainly controls how the player will act when it is not the current one you are controlling in-game.  A player with a high tendency stat will be more likely to do those particular tendencies, such as take a shot from under the basket, etc.

Hot Zones

Choosing the heat map for your player’s Hot Zones determines how well they will shoot from different positions. If your player is in a Hot Zone, then they will get a slight boost on their shooting abilities. Again, this is something you can max out here.

Signature

Editing the Signature section will change your player’s different stances and animations. You can customize different sections for each situation you will get into in NBA 2K25. For instance: layups and dunks, jump shooting, post-game, etc.

Each different situation comes with a range of customizable options. You will start by selecting a specific player to mimic; then, you can get specific. Use L2 and R2 on PlayStation, or LT and RT on Xbox, to swap between the different situations.

Badges

The badges will determine what skill attributes your player has. You can set as many as you like and swap between different Badges, such as playmaking, defending, personality, etc. Use the bumper buttons on your controller to swap between the different badge types.

How To Create A Player – Import/Export DNA

The final two sections on this list give you the chance to import or export the player DNA. This allows you to either search for particular players who are not in the game and people have custom made, or export the settings you have.

This is a great way to find particular customizations (especially face and body customizations) for specific players or other people. Use online communities to find and share these ideas. People spend a long time perfectly creating people’s faces so you can get your favorite people into the game.
