For fans of more traditional wrestling, the return of chain wrestling in WWE 2K25 is great news and sees the two combatants trading all kinds of holds in a bid to gain the upper hand during matches. Whether it’s in MyRISE or online multiplayer, knowing how to chain wrestle makes all the difference. Here, find everything there is to know about chain wrestling, including how the mini-game works.

WWE 2K25 Chain Wrestling, Explained

Chain wrestling often takes place at the beginning of a match when two superstars lock up for the first time. Above the names of each wrestler, there’s a blue chain icon, indicating their ability to chain wrestle. Even without the icons above their health bar, you can still initiate a sequence during the match’s early stages.

Here’s what needs to be done to activate a chain wrestling sequence:

  • PlayStation – Grab an opponent using Circle and hold the button until chain wrestling begins.
  • Xbox – Grab an opponent using B and hold it until the mini-game appears.

You can play the chain wrestling mini-game twice during a match. The first time is when the buff is active and the second is manually when both wrestlers have plenty of stamina left in the tank.

When the chain wrestling mini-game is active, two circles for both wrestlers will appear. There are three actions that can be performed:

  • Switch – Transition to another hold.
  • Attack/Dive – An offensive move or a push to break the hold.
  • Wrench – A hold such as a headlock, armbar, or leglock, depending on the position of the wrestlers.

The green circle segments represent which actions have the best chance of gaining the advantage during the chain wrestling sequence. Pick the segment with the most blocks for the upper hand, or try your luck with another action.

To achieve victory in the chain wrestling sequence, keep moving the left analog stick until you can feel the vibrations triggered by the hotspot. Once the red circle has stopped expanding, move the stick again to find the next hotspot.

This part of the sequence can last a while as they use a variety of holds in a bid to gain the early momentum. The extensive roster contains several wrestlers with a higher chance of engaging in chain wrestling, so be prepared for any situation that comes your way as soon as the bell rings.

How To Disable Chain Wrestling in WWE 2K25

If you’re not the biggest fan of chain wrestling and want your WWE 2K25 matches to start with an immediate dose of offense, you can switch the mechanic off completely.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • At the main menu, move to the right and select Gameplay.
  • Scroll down to the chain wrestling option to enable or disable it.

That’s all there is to it. Chain wrestling in WWE 2K25 isn’t for everyone, but the mechanic does add some extra realism to the action.
