With Forza Horizon 6 launching at the end of next week, Playground Games has officially detailed the graphics and performance modes players can expect on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. While none of the information is especially surprising, it does give players a much clearer idea of how the game will run depending on their hardware and preferences.
As confirmed in a recent post highlighted by IGN, both consoles will feature two rendering modes: Quality and Performance. Like most modern first-party Xbox releases, the choice essentially comes down to visuals versus framerate.
Xbox Series X And Series S Offer Different Experiences In Forza Horizon 6
On Xbox Series X, Quality mode will run the game in native 4K at 30fps. Meanwhile, Performance mode will target 4K while dynamically scaling the resolution to maintain a locked 60fps experience.
For most players, especially in a fast-paced arcade racer like Forza Horizon, the 60fps option will probably be the preferred choice. Horizon has always been a series built around speed, flow, and responsiveness, and doubling the framerate tends to make a huge difference when weaving through traffic at 200 mph or flying across dense open-world environments.
That said, Playground Games clearly hasn’t abandoned players who prioritize image quality and visual fidelity. The Horizon series has consistently been one of Xbox’s graphical showcases, dating all the way back to the Xbox One era, and native 4K at 30fps should still look absolutely stunning, especially given the game’s Tokyo-inspired setting and heavy emphasis on lighting, weather, and dense city environments.
On the Xbox Series S, the compromises will naturally be a bit more noticeable. Quality mode will run at 1440p and 30fps, while Performance mode targets 1080p at 60fps. Both modes on Series S will also use dynamic resolution scaling in order to maintain stable performance.
Overall, the graphics setup feels exactly in line with what most players probably expected. More importantly, it sounds like Playground Games is once again prioritizing smooth performance without completely sacrificing the visual spectacle the Horizon series is known for.
Forza Horizon 6 will be released for the Xbox Series X/S and PC on May 19, 2026. Players who purchase the Premium Edition or the Premium Add-Ons Bundle will get be given four days of early access, beginning on May 15.
