Already a talking point in the Major League, MLB The Show 26 brings the latest umpiring technology to the franchise via the addition of the ABS (Automated Ball-Strike) Challenge System.
But how does the feature work in-game? And is it possible to disable it? Here’s an overview of how ABS works in MLB The Show 26, as well as how to turn the system on and off at your leisure.
How Does ABS Work In MLB The Show 26
MLB The Show 26‘s ABS feature allows players to press the down button on their D-Pads to challenge the call of the umpires following plays. Like in real life, you will have a maximum of two challenges per game, with an extra being awarded once in the extra innings. Performing successful challenges won’t hurt your count, while each unsuccessful attempt will lower it by one.

Keep in mind that the system is not present in H2H (head-to-head) or Diamond Dynasty games, where the umpire’s decisions are always set to Perfect and cannot be changed. In other words, we have some bad news if you are constantly disagreeing with them online.
How To Turn ABS Off In MLB The Show 26
Although I would advise against doing so, especially considering the new layer of realism the feature brings to RTTS, you can disable ABS for good in MLB The Show 26 by heading to Settings. Once there, simply go to General before scrolling down to the Rules tab, where the option will be located. You can change your ABS settings at any time, even during matches. To recap, here’s how to disable the ABS system:
- Head to Settings
- Select General
- Scroll down until you spot the Rules tab
- Head to ABS Challenge System and simply press left or right (or move the right analog stick) to toggle it on and off, respectively.

Now that you know how the ABS Challenge System works in the game, make sure to also take a look at the Best Cards in MLB The Show 26 Diamond Dynasty Mode. If you are looking for realism, we then recommend taking a look at Armor & Sword’s Hall of Fame Clean Screen Sliders. Trust me, he never disappoints.
