Madison Bumgarner has an up-and-down history in The Show. he’s been of the best pitchers in the game some years, and then other years he’s been very hittable. Taking my first looks at this card, I would say this one falls into the should-be-good category. He has 93 H/9 and a fastball that will sit mid-90s. He then has a 99 break cutter, an 82 mph changeup, and a big loopy curveball. The issue with Bumgarner is sometimes it can be hard finding the strikeout, but the cutter has such new life this year due to Pinpoint Pitching that it can really level the playing field. It also doesn’t hurt that there just are not that many dominant left-handed pitchers in the game right now, so you have a lot of lefty-heavy lineups out there.
None of that guarantees this card will be “meta” or amazing, but I do think this Signature Series Madison Bumgarner card has the potential to creep into quite a few rotations. It’s also worth noting Bumgarner has 90+ control of the 4-seam, cutter, and curveball.
