'He holds us together': DeMarcus Lawrence knows exactly who deserves credit for Seahawks shutting down 49ers

Two forced turnovers shut San Francisco down.

The Seattle Seahawks crushed the San Francisco 49ers 41-6 in the NFC Divisional Round at Lumen Field this past Saturday night. Linebacker Ernest Jones IV was the main reason for the win. He was everywhere on the field and delivered a performance that showed everyone why he’s the leader of the defense.

Veteran defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence made it clear after the game that Jones is the heart of the team’s defense. Lawrence has seen plenty of great defensive players in his career, and he gave Jones high praise during the post-game press conference. He explained how important Jones is to keeping the entire defense working together.

According to ClutchPoints, Lawrence said, “He’s our captain. He holds us together and makes sure we’re all of us are in the right place. He’s a dawg and he gets the ball for us so shoutout to EJ man, let’s keep it going.” Jones backed up that praise with his play on the field against the 49ers. He forced two turnovers that completely changed the game. In the first quarter, he stripped tight end Jake Tonges for a fumble. This play set the tone early and showed that Seattle was ready to dominate.

Jones proved his leadership with two game-changing turnovers

The fumble happened when San Francisco was trying to get into a rhythm. Jones shut that down immediately and sent a message that the Seahawks were playing with serious intensity. Unlike the recent blowup between teammates in other sports, the Seahawks showed perfect team chemistry. Taking the ball away right at the start made it hard for the 49ers to recover.

Jones kept making plays throughout the game. In the third quarter, he intercepted quarterback Brock Purdy. At that point, the 49ers were trying to get back into the game and make the score closer. The interception ended any hope of a comeback.

It sealed the 41-6 victory and showed why Jones is so valuable to the defense. While some teams are dealing with fan disappointment, Seahawks fans have every reason to celebrate their defense. Both turnovers came at perfect times and stopped the 49ers’ offense when they needed it most.

Jones is a second-team All-Pro linebacker who stepped up when his team needed him in the playoffs. His performance showed true leadership and proved he can deliver in big moments. He’s not just a talented player but a captain who makes everyone around him better when the pressure is highest.
