Gran Turismo Sport Limited Time Demo Has Arrived, Post Your Impressions
A Gran Turismo Sport limited time demo is scheduled to arrive on October 9 through October 12 at 8:00 AM PT. If you’re a PS Plus member, you can pre-load the demo on October 7 at 8:00 AM PT and access the game at 12:00 AM PT. If you aren’t a member, the demo will be available on October 9 at 6:00 PM PT.
UPDATE: (10-7) The Gran Turismo Sport Limited Time demo is available for pre-download, if you’re a PS Plus subscriber.
UPDATE: (10-9) The Gran Turismo Sport Limited Time demo is available for everyone to play now. Remember, the limited time demo lasts until October 12 at 8:00 AM PT.
The demo allows fans to unlock vehicles and earn in-game credit, which will be transferable to the full game when it launches on October 17.
At the start of the demo, drivers will have the option to experience a taste of Sport, Campaign, or Arcade mode. New features such as the innovative Scapes Photography mode and Custom Livery Editor are also available for the very first time.
In Sport mode, drivers can prove just how fast they are by putting down their fastest lap time. At the end of each qualifying session, it’s an all-out battle against other drivers with similar performance abilities ensuring each race is equal, fair, and highly competitive.
Campaign mode gives players the chance to improve their driving skills across numerous challenges, missions, and circuit experiences. Each of these modes play a key role in making every driver better prepared for racing online against others. As you complete various trial and Daily Workouts, you will be awarded with numerous vehicle unlocks, in-game currency, and Experience Points, furthering your Driver Profile and personal garage.
For those looking to just jump in and drive, the Arcade mode offers a wide range of vehicle classes on three pre-selected circuit configurations with different terrains. Whether you want to go for high-speed oval racing on Northern Isle, hone your technical skills on Dragon Trail, or drift sideways through the corners in rally, race on your own terms as you choose from multiple driving aids including braking and or steering to hone your skills. You can also race against a friend offline in the classic 2-player split screen mode.
The True HDR workflow and physics-based rendering tech of Scapes must be experienced firsthand to be truly appreciated. This is not your traditional photo mode as each photo location contains all the light energy information of that scene, enabling you to place your personalized car in hundreds of real world locations.
To round out the demo experience, the Livery Editor allows you to add your own personal touch of customization through numerous logo designs. You can also change the color of the car, wheels, mirrors, hood, spoiler, and much more.
I love the first two motorstorm games.

Any ideas? Or just wait until the 9th when the servers come on?

After playing it for 45 mins, I have no urge to get this game.
Arcade mode, and online modes I played both against A.I. and real people. Don't like it!
Then after all that work, my game woudn't save due to server issues.
Not getting a game, that requires online just to save progress.

I love the game so far , pre ordering today. Everything is so smooth feeling , handling is fantastic, visuals on the Pro are amazing. Also to my surprise there’s more to this game then I thought there was going to be.
I did get to mess around with it a little bit, though, and the game just screams polish. The actual driving feels great too. Hopefully the servers will be back up later.

The driving feels outstanding so far, sound is at least adequate so far (though still not a strength), and the AI hasn't offended me in just the one race, but they were kind of spread out in a line/trail so it was a bit more of a passing excercise but they didn't shunt me like I wasn't there. More racing to come but it's looking good so far.
As has been said, polished as hell, and if you just let it run in the menus with the 'car porn' shots, it makes for a stunning 4k demo :)
Yeah, Pro and KS8000 here, and the beauty of this game is unreal. This is as close to photo-realistic as we've come this generation.
Just in my brief time with the GT Sport demo I can so far sum it up like this:
Forza - ASTOUNDING looking videogame
GT Sport - **** looks real (mic drop)
In all seriousness, because I don't want to short Forza 7 here, they are both beyond my expectation. It's like Forza is a 10, graphically...and that is amazing, it does look brilliant.
But GT Sport goes to 11.

Wow. I'm trying to decide between the two since I'll be getting an X. Can't wait to try it after work in a few.
If you're getting an X that should play in to your decision.
So just whore yourself out like the rest of us and get both.

Lol that's more than likely what I'll do. Does GT have Nascar? I love that about Forza!
Don't get me wrong, GT Sport is an amazing looking game and I'm glad they've returned! But the graphics aren't even better than Driveclub worse enough trying to compare it to Forza 7.
They are barely on the levels of details with Forza Motorsport 5! And yes I've done the comparisons and can back that up with video proof.
Pro Mode or not it doesn't change that, also GT Sport gameplay physics are bland and very outdated compared to most games today.
I notice their graphics are hit and miss too! In the gameplay graphics downgrade when on the tracks while racing. During replays and menus the cars are increased in details and items are added to the environments that aren't there during gameplay.
This is misleading with graphics details, as a owner of every Gran Turismo game ever made and completed 88% of them. I can say I was expecting more. The online only thing is a big mistake, and the game would have been better without that option.

Damn did you make Foza? Sound like you damn near about to cry, because someone opinion differs from yours. These are games enjoy them and so what if someone thinks it looks better than the other.
We're waiting to see the video proof, but I'm just gonna go out on a limb and say GT Sport is probably closer to Forza 7 than 5. Lol
No but I'm a multi-platform owner and a big racing fanatic from PC Racers to Consoles!!! And definitely an obsessive graphics person.
I don't like people lying about something that is simple and obviously false! #factsmatter
Actually the video is processing now!!!
Preview though - Had to use Forza 6 to get the same car for Preview!
Any how I just came back to say I ran a few more of the mission challenges. Once you complete all 8 in stage 1 , stage 6 unlocks. The second challenge in stage 6 is a full course race. You start with 6 laps remaining and you must make a pit stop for tires and fuel. You need to finish 7th or better. These things are pretty cool, nice change of pace. I was surprised the game actually shows a pit crew changing your tires.
I'm not going to get into the which game looks better, I haven't seen Forza 7 yet. Forza 6 looked great but handled like a soft turd. I'm sure 7 on the xbox one x will be up to par with GT Sport on the Pro. All I can say is when the headlights on the car behind me shine through my rear window and light up my dashboard it's photo realistic, no kidding. On the Pro I see no difference between the replays and live on the track racing. 4k is 4k

Your reality don't make it so and who cares about your pedigree. You in here crying about how some people feel GT looks better, who cares and you are trying to turn your opinion in to facts.
Its a bug, but if you ignore options initially and dive into the different modes, progress through the game, do settings while paused on the track, something triggers the options to work normally later on.
The options screen works as it should now for me but not when the game started at the beginning.

Yeah, same here, actually. Just some bug with the first run of the options screen. Once I did some other stuff in the game and went there again it was fine.
Game is fun as long as I'm turning down the ridiculously overblown slipstream and boost options (can be done in the custom race setup). I just don't really enjoy the short types of races where you weave in and out of other cars and go 20th to first in 2 laps anymore. Just not fun.

I really believe this game is going to change how other titles handle the social aspect. Being able to post and reply to messages is awesome.
I appreciate when racing games don't make the actual driving of cars rocket science. Obviously, you'll need skill to be good, but I'm not fighting the vehicles.

Photo mode is amazing, I just wish those details actually passed over too actual gameplay graphics, they are night and day different.
All the cars and tracks look amazing in replay and in photo mode, but are downgraded tremendously in regular gameplay graphics.

All in good fun, but...
How can I NOT buy this? This is the most fun I've had with a GT game since...ever. How did we go from dry and clinical gameplay, and dumb as a post AI, and crappy sound to this??
Great job Polyphony. Take my money.
I think owning this AND Forza 7 is the best 1-2 punch in car video game history.
(but F1 2017 is still #1 for me, but it's a whole different animal)
This is really the first GT game I’ve played. The graphics are good but the driving seems slightly more casual. So people put as much time into set ups as they do with Project cars? I get smoked online by people who can tune a car (I can’t). If the online is more driving stock set ups I would definitely buy this.
Also, have to say it - this game handles MUCH better with a controller than PCars. It's a little floaty at times, but I feel like I have much more stable control of the car and won't suddenly spin myself out with a jerky analog movement.
Edit: Uploaded.
Certainly the cleanest race I've ever seen run in GT (in that nobody appeared to be trying to intentionally wreck or be stupidly aggressive). For my part, I don't think I traded paint with anyone through the whole thing.
And yes, that's with a controller. It's pretty obvious on the turn right before the chicane on the first lap, because I came in too slow and started panic-weaving too much trying to right myself. I cleaned that up on the other 3 laps.
I think ABS and TCS were locked on for this race. Of course that helped.
Being able to enjoy the online racing is key for me in deciding whether to purchase this - because I just don't think I'm going to find much value in the single-player aspect. This was a very good start.
If you want to drive some different cars on different tracks check these challenges out. They are great. Stage 1 I got all gold, stage 6 all silver so far except the last one. These are a challenge for sure. They start out easy but increase in difficulty. The only downside is you need the hud on your screen to check fuel, I usually have everything off my screen. Wish they would assign this to the d-pad like PC2 does. Love this demo.

Only concern I have was the AI breaking on turns, I felt they went into the turns too slow causing be to crash into them. I did jack the difficulty up to Professional.

The challenges and driving school are nice and almost fill in that void I feel with the traditional career mode we have had since GT 2 being gone. I failed that challenge too and ended up running out of fuel, but gonna try it again tonight and maybe short shift on some parts of the track to save some fuel.
In addition to the graphics that are in GT Sport, I had a great time running the endurance race with the Porsche and felt like I was in control the entire race. Control wise, I think GT sport is a lot better than Forza 7. I enjoy Forza 7 as well, but at times, I find handling some of the cars in Forza a bit challenging and tend to have the feeling that my car is on ice.
After trying the demo, I think I will be preordering GT Sport. Hoping to run some races with some fellow OSers when the game drops! I really like what they have done with this game.
If you run the Challenges, you'll get to race with even the concept super cars...pretty wild.
Just so I'm clear....we do get to carry over all these free cars I'm earning and credits, etc to the retail version?

I believe I read that there is a cap to that, like 3 cars and 1M in money. Which 3 cars and how that is decided I don't know. I will have to find where I read that .
Thanks guys...I'm no threat to hit 1 million, but I do have a few cars I've earned...hope they carry over.

Ha I will give my recommendation. It's amazing how each game offers something the other doesn't - It's almost like a strange economic conspiracy to get one to buy them all.
PC2 - Amazing car and track offerings, tedious handling with control
Forza 7 - amazing visuals, strong car offering, weak track list
NH2 - officially licensed representation - strong physics and handling, sub-par graphics
Dirt 4 - amazing depth, handling, realism, - limited genre
GT Sport - Stunning visuals, strong handling, strong car offering, weak track offering.

This is what I'm doing.
The AI drivers seem to be a little more independent than the other GT game I've played, although they still seem to behave to act like a school of fish about 2/3 of the time. I like the driving feel of the game, even through the controller, although I imagine it would be a special treat with a wheel.
GT Sport is a feast for the eyes, even on my standard PS4. There are places where it's a bit lacking that seem out of place. For example, the grandstands at the oval track almost look like something out of the previous gen. OTOH, the off road course in Colorado looks incredibly organic. This game must look awesome on a PS4 Pro and a 4K display!
If this game catches fire, I can almost see myself buying a Cronus Max Drive Hub (which is getting rave reviews) so I can use my Thrustmaster TX Leather Edition with the PS4 and GT Sport.

100% agree with this after trying this on my regular PS4 for comparison. It is completely cleaned up with the PS4 Pro version.
I also hope they reduce the waiting time for matchmaking races. Having 5 minutes would better, then 10,15 minute wait times.

They sent out a message on the game last night that those will be playable when the servers are down with the final build......I know arcade for sure, cant remember if they said campaign as well.
Can't wait for the full game.
Yeah. There's actually an option to turn off the trailing car boost as well as lowering the slipstream effect (which might be why they divebomb you.) Can only set it for custom races though. At least lets you earn credits in that mode.
But in the other modes, the boost and slipstream is way overblown. I get it though because you couldn't win in 2 lap races vs the AI otherwise. Makes it feel cheap and artificial though.

If you are running custom races turn the boost off.

Not similar at all. GT Sport Campaign mode consists of 3 stages:
1. Driving School In the demo only the first 8 are unlocked. It seems similar to the license tests from the older GT games.Things like cornering, stopping within a certain area, and so on, there are 48 of them.
2.Mission Challenge. These vary from knocking over cones to completing a section of a course within a certain time. As you progress there are also full races with pit stops included. I found these very fun and challenging the further you get into it. Stage 1 is open in the demo, complete that and stage 6 opens up. There are 8 stages in all with 8 challenges in each stage.
3.Circuit Experience. This one was the most limited in the demo but it appears that you will need to run sections of the circuits within a certain time, then run the full course.
In each of the 3 above you are awarded credits and gift cars for completing events.
There is more to the single player part of the game though in the arcade area. In here you have Single race, Time trial, Drift trial, Custom race, 2 player battle. You also get credits, mileage exchange cash, and rank up playing these modes. I've been spending most of my time in the single player custom races. I currently have 752,810 credits , 12,060 mileage exchange credits , I'm almost level 18 , and I've been awarded 7 cars.
I must warn you and everyone who reads this, This game is addicting, I work for myself so it's no big deal but since the demo came out I've been working 6 hour days instead of 8 or 9 hour days so I can get home and play. I can only imagine when the full game comes out. I know I'm taking Tuesday off.

I don't think this game is going to appeal to a lot of reckless drivers. The whole etiquette and sportsmanship rating is a very nice touch. That alone should encourage a good community.
I played a couple of online races and both of them were very clean, even with a full field. There was some bumping here and there, as can be expected, but no one was out there blatantly ramming into other cars.
In my final race, I had an awful qualifying time and started in 21st. I ended up finishing in 14th, but I wish I had one more lap because I was flying on the last one. I had the track down by that point. That was some of the most fun I've ever had in an online racer.
I know some people don't dig the offline offering, but what they've given us is fine for me. I enjoy trying to gold the challenges. Who knows where this game will be a year from now, but I'm excited for the future.

It was nice, I was able to play the demo after servers were disconnected. I never shut off game, and just put my PlayStation into rest mode. I was able to play the demo until I closed it. Then when I tried to open again nothing worked.
I think I downloaded 59 Gig for the game alone.
Talking about what DLC to expect
Lol
Yeah, I pre-loaded. It should be fun for a more relaxed experience, plus as I said I do like that they're taking steps to clean up the online racing.

The online component has to work well for me to enjoy the game. It's weird because I prefer online gaming to offline gaming so games like Madden and racing games are a little boring to me unless I am playing against other people.
It’s the little things in life.
That's gonna be awkward. Guess I could still play while it's downloading but it's gonna be molasses slow. (12 GB is going to take a few hour minimum).

Having not finished the update, Arcade mode is the only thing I can play. Expected that.
(Arcade's a bit of a misnomer as you can set all of the simulation options the game allows for in Custom Race)
Also, since I cannot connect to the servers until I download the patch, my levels from the beta haven't carried over either, and I can only choose 5 courses (and one is a speedway and 2 are rally courses.). The rest are level locked.
Would love to see patch notes.
