Golden State Just Made A Bizarre Trade For A Walking Injury Risk, Placing Steph Curry’s Last Title Chance In The Hands Of Team Doctors

The coach is looking confident.

The Golden State Warriors have signed Kristaps Porzingis from the Hawks on the deadline day of the trade in exchange for Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield. The team has signed him as Jimmy Buttler is injured, and there’s a need for a player who could contribute both on offense and defense. On paper, Kristaps, who is also one of the best centers in NBA 2K26, is a prudent move, but his injury record creates uncertainty. Though coach Steve Kerr appears to make it clear that the organization believes the trade strengthens the roster.

According to Sports Illustrated, the coach described the signing as an important addition to the team this trade session. He believes they had been looking for someone with this profile for a while. In his view, the athlete is a fair addition to the Warriors, as they needed someone who can shoot three-pointers while keeping the defense balanced.

While talking to the media, Steve Kerr said, “He’s the kind of player we’ve been looking for for years,” and also added, “A legitimate three-point shooter, rim protector—tough to find that combination in one player. The biggest thing is his health. I don’t think we would have made the trade if we didn’t think he could be healthy and consistent in terms of being in the lineup.” With these words, he seems to deny speculation about Porzingis’ health and expresses confidence.

Steve Kerr Expresses Confidence In Kristaps Porzingis Role And Potential Impact

Steve Kerr is fully backing Kristaps and is looking forward to integrating him into his scheme promptly. The athlete’s stats at Hawks and Celtics suggest why the coach is putting his faith in him. Porzingis at the Hawks averaged around 17 points per game and shot 36% from three-point range. These noteworthy stats give the team another frontcourt option following Jimmy Butler’s injury.

Butler was also on a strong run in the Warriors before falling to a season-ending ACL injury. Following this injury, Steve Kerr, who DeMarcus Cousins called a problem in the locker room, has set his sights on Kristaps and believes he can bring out the best in him. Even though the coach is all in on him, some insiders see the signing of Porzingis against two productive players as a gamble.

Kristaps, with his stats and physical prowess, aligns with the Warriors’ needs, and proper integration could yield strong on-court production. With Steve Kerr’s confidence, the coaching staff is expected to determine how he fits into their rotations and strategies. The long-term impact of this trade will depend on the athlete’s performance and health availability.
