German Woman Owns the World’s Largest Barbie Collection. What Happened When She Put on a Blindfold Earned Her Another Record

She knew her dolls by heart.

A lifelong fascination with dolls turned into a record-breaking passion for one German collector. For decades, Bettina Dorfmann gathered thousands of Barbies. Despite the vast and overwhelming collection, she knew her dolls by heart that she could identify them while blindfolded. This remarkable hobby recently captured international attention when she demonstrated her skill and knowledge during a television appearance in Munich.

According to Guinness World Records, Dormann was able to identify 19 dolls in just three minutes. She examined small details such as the texture of their hair, the shape of their bodies, and the design of their outfits. That performance earned her another distinction from Guinness World Records for the most Barbie dolls identified blindfolded in that time frame. This achievement reflects decades of experience and obsession with the iconic toy.

Dorfmann already holds the Guinness World Record for the largest collection of Barbie dolls, with more than 18,500 figures stored in her home in Düsseldorf, Germany. In 2005, she first earned the title when her collection reached 2,500 dolls. Since then, she has expanded her collection, making her record untouchable.

Her Childhood Obsession Put Her In The Record Books

The collector’s connection to Barbie began in childhood. Dorfmann received her first doll in the late 1960s and spent many hours playing with it. She rekindled her spark for the toy as an adult when she wassifting through items she had saved. Gradually, this nostalgic interest turned into a serious collecting project. Over time, her growing collection became both a personal passion and a unique piece of pop-culture history.

“I played with Barbies a lot in my childhood. I had so much fun and I always kept them and kept them for my daughter. We would always play games with them,” Dorfmann said. Beyond the toy, she said she sees something more profound. “I think Barbie is always so exciting because Barbie is a mark or sign of our reality ahead,” she said

Dorfmann revealed that her fascination is rooted in how the doll reflects changes in society over time. Since the toy was introduced by Mattel in 1959, Barbie has appeared in thousands of variations representing different careers, cultures, and fashion trends.

“Barbies are ever-changing with the times…These dolls always have makeup of the current time, and this is a theme that people will always buy into,” she said. For Dorfmann, those visual clues allowed experienced and passionate collectors like her to develop an unmatched sense of familiarity and connection. Now, with a new record in tow, it just means that her passion and love for Barbie dolls have not stopped growing deeper over the years.
