Less than a month after a deadly plane crash killed seven people, including retired NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, authorities have released several urgent 911 calls from that day. The calls reveal what witnesses saw during those tragic moments at the North Carolina airport.
TMZ shared the 911 recordings recently. In one call, a person at a nearby golf course said they watched the Cessna C550 plane crash into a tree line near the runway at Statesville Regional Airport. The witness described seeing a “huge explosion” right after the crash happened.
The emergency dispatcher quickly told the caller to stay away from the crash site and confirmed that help was already on the way to the scene. Another caller at the North Carolina airport reported seeing a “big fire” at the end of the runway. This caller also tried to guess how many people might have been on the plane while the dispatcher collected information about the emergency.
The 911 calls paint a disturbing picture of the tragedy
A third person who worked at the airport called 911 and said the facility needed to shut down right away. Another witness was only 200 yards away from where the plane went down when they made their emergency call. The tragedy has shocked the sports world, similar to how WWE star Nikki Bella’s relationship news recently surprised fans with unexpected developments.
The crash killed Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, their 14-year-old daughter Emma, and their 5-year-old son Ryder. Three other people also died in the accident: Craig Wadsworth, Dennis Dutton, and his son Jack.
The crash happened on December 18 around 10:30 in the morning. The Cessna C500 burst into flames as it tried to land at the airport. Flight records show the plane took off from Statesville airport but turned around immediately and tried to land again. It crashed during that landing attempt.
The family was flying to Florida for a birthday trip. Greg Biffle was going to turn 56 on December 23. Just before the crash, Cristina Biffle sent a text message to her mother saying “We’re in trouble.” Her mother, Cathy Grossu, told People magazine that was the last message she received from her daughter.
In other news, Trump’s granddaughter shared his views about potential future political plans during a recent interview. Biffle was a registered pilot who used his helicopter to deliver supplies to Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene in 2024. He was known for his charity work helping animals through his Greg Biffle Foundation.
