The review embargo for Forza Horizon 6 was just lifted, and surprise, everyone seems to love it, with some even calling the title both an across-the-board improvement and the franchise’s best experience to date.

To see whether or not the game deserves its current 92 Metacritic score, here’s what all of the biggest outlets are saying about Forza Horizon 6 ahead of its release.

What Are Critics Saying About Forza Horizon 6?

At the time of writing, Forza Horizon 6 has been reviewed by 102 different outlets, with all but two giving it a positive rating. Among them, IGN gave it a Masterpiece Rating, while calling it ”the new standard in open-world racing.” Eurogamer then praised the game as the culmination of what the franchise has been striving to achieve since its launch in 2012.

Many reviewers also noted that, although mesmerizing, FH 6 avoids venturing out of what is already considered the franchise’s staple experience. Whether that means a lack of ambition or just a philosophy of not changing what clearly works, is for you to decide.

Technically, Forza Horizon 6 has not skipped a beat, and it runs like a titan. Aesthetically, it’s the best-looking and best-sounding game Playground has produced to date, set in the most wonderfully realised map it’s ever crafted – full of dense, authentic details and stunning driving roads. It’s rewarding to explore, the campaign is well-paced with a great payoff, and I simply cannot stop playing.

Nevertheless, Forza Horizon 6 is a gorgeous open-world game that is as much about racing as it is about taking a virtual vacation. Moving the series to Japan is an overdue high note, giving players the best map to date, while the hundreds of cars once again look and feel incredible, no matter the type or terrain. The customization options and an obsession with showering you in positive stimuli make every mile feel worthwhile, but if you’re very familiar with the series, you might agree that some of the formula has become predictable by now.
