First NBA 2K18 Screenshots Revealed, Featuring Nike and Advertisements

2K has just released the first NBA 2K18 screenshots of Paul George (Overall rating 91), Isaiah Thomas (Overall rating 89) and DeMar DeRozan (Overall rating 89).

The screenshots not only show off player faces, builds and uniforms, but they also feature advertisements on the NBA jerseys, along with the Nike Swoosh logo, beginning this year with their global multiyear partnership.

Check out the screenshots and post your thoughts.

  1. Kinda got a 2k16 feel looking at these but I'm not mad about it. And has 2k always had space between the rubber bands and the players wrist like that if not nice touch.
cool? i guess idk don't really care how player look because the camera is high so you never really see them up close.
What I do care is how bad/good the serevrs will be and how long pro am will be broken before they fix it (lets face it this mode is broken at release every year).
Nah bruh first screens from last year everybody was all buff with no necks.
This is way better as long as players don't have tree trunk cankles.

That's what I'm waiting on 2k always hiding legs in their screenshots.
Those body types are a huge improvement over last year. Just one look at Isaiah and Paul George shows it. They did a better job finding a good medium between Paul George's lankiness while still giving him a muscular build.
This has nothing to do with 2k but I wish Nike didn't go with putting the Nike symbol on the jersey like that all I see is a replica jersey because of it.
Nice, looks like they dumped the bodybuilder body type (Isaiah Thomas) and gave George/Derozan a more appropriate type too.
I also notice they've made the arm sleeves longer and made the rubberbands "loose" to fit that length. I hope they made a lot more improvements to accessories.
Looking good so far, once I read/hear/see about defensive A.I. & the CAP system then I'll be on-board for this year.
    from Bills Backer/Spurs Nation HQ
Nothing special about it. Still want a body slider to change body shape. Or at least multiple body shapes to select from in CAP. Also, their muscle definition doesn't look as good as like in 2K14.
These look much improved over last year.  Body types are better and faces look more accurate. Last year a lot of guys' faces looked swollen to me.  They also didn't have necks. A smaller issue that I know I'm excited about is hair texture. DeMar's hair looks coarse and natural, same with PG's beard. In previous years of 2K, natural, black people hair seemed synthetic and had this unrealistic sheen to it.  Another thing is they seem to have toned down the sweat glare. To me that's what made guys look so fake. Other than the cartoonish body types, the fact that players looked full on metallic when they were sweating was an issue for me. I'm interested in seeing some more differently built guys. Giannis is jacked this year IRL and of course KD and Steph, who looked like high school girls last year.
Not bad, though not a huge difference, but it's expected after 2K14 started so strong. For some reason, Paul George's face looks more like it was created in CAP than scanned, in my opinion.
What I don't get is why the mop-guy is still standing there, after all these years. He should be seated at the back/side of the basket pole.
I don't want to get myself too hyped for the game just yet because we're yet to see any gameplay, which was the biggest flaw with 2K17. But the screenshots look good because the game looks different. The player's bodies don't have the same look as they did in 2K15, 2K16, and 2K17. Which makes me hopeful that the game plays differently. LETS HOPE!
Looks like PG13s jersey is tucked in super tight...maybe jerseys come untucked this year?? Different fits??
Loving the rubber bands not stuck on the wrists.

Decent, but in my personal opinion still to this day 2k14 had the best graphics. Why didn't they build off that? ever since the players look cartoonish.

....because the graphics took up a lot of resources.

I notice DeRozan has stretch marks on his arms

    Noticed that as well...nice detail

I'm still bothered by how the shoulders look...I guess the player are still missing the cut up look? I dunno...they just look flat to me....
Shaq is an important one, especially now that he's a cover athlete again. I hope they get his body type right. Last few years he just looked like an awkward 7-foot obese baby with short-shorts.
I hope the G league makes its first appearance on this generation of consoles. I miss letting my rookies get some big numbers up playing down there before bringing them up to the big leagues.
if this game updates the CAP with body types and allows 5 slots for created team jerseys I will def pre order.  Id also like to see CAPs enter the coaching pool after they retire for us MyLeague guys who play well into year 2050. who am I kidding im buying this game either way because i Love NBA. i hope i can override paul pierce retiring lol
Does anyone else get those E! Fashion Police vibes from these threads every year?
That being said, body types look MUCH improved. Something about PG was off in 2k17, both with his jersey fit and body width. Both issues look to be fixed this year, which is encouraging!
Now let's see if KD still looks like Gumby...

I'd like to see what KD, Giannis and Lebron look like.
Hoping lebron doesn't have the crazy huge kankles and that KD and Giannis aren't anorexic teenagers
PG and Derozan are looking great. Something is off with Isaiah tho. Maybe it's just me but his face just seems kind of off
Really like what I see with paul George's body type. I hope we can utilise these different body shapes for our MyCareer players, and I'm gonna hold off on praising anything until I see Giannis, Lebron, Curry, Durant, Ingram, Wiggins and Jimmy Butler.
PS. 2k please win my heart with variable short lengths... please!
Screenshots look nice. Body types look more athletic and less bulky. I kinda like how the faces don't look super detailed. They look really good but I'm a ML guy and there's gonna be crated players playing alongside these guys so if CAP is improved there won't be as huge a gulf between real players and new ones. Also, looks like JBL (DeRozen pic) is a sponsor of the game.
I hate the fact that they peaked so early in this generation, from a visual standpoint....The lighting just hasn't been that good since 2k14.
But overall, I'm liking what I'm seeing....Face scans are great, colors are a little more vibrant, Body types look improved, and the jerseys/accessories look more authentic.
Now I'm just waiting on them to show gameplay & announce a brand new CAP system (hopefully similar to the one in WWE 2k) before I make my preorder
I'm hoping they address OKC's court, prior to release tho. It's still the same brownish looking garbage from 2k17...smh...can only imagine how many other courts are gonna be off again, this year.
They always get this wrong for some reason. Live absolutely destroys them in this area
Looking into the background, I noticed just how truly dark the fans and seats are? Why is this? The nosebleed seats are always very dark but other than that, seats are relatively well lit in NBA stadiums

Was looking forward to your input. You were one of the first people last year to point out the body type flaws and opened my eyes to things I didn't notice before, namely the huge shoulders/traps with no neck look. Glad to see, based on the shots, it was addressed this year. Hopefully we continue to see body improvements throughout. I think as long as that overly skinny and lanky build is fixed this year I'll be satisfied. We'll see though.
Maybe it's just me but the jerseys seem to look better this year. Looking at the IT screenshot it looks like the jersey texture is more realistic and that the colors on the numbers and lettering were improved.
    Edit:
One little thing that irks me about 2k is the look of the ball. Is it just me or is it too brown and not orange enough? For comparisons sake the ball in NBA Live looks more realistic. Again this isn't major just a tiny detail that has bothered me over the years.
Body types look good, especially DeRozan's - he got his stretch marks and everything. Now i'm just hoping for some gameplay footage some time soon.
The first released 2k17 screenshots were horrendous, dudes looked like they came straight out of gears of war

Jerseys look much better. From the textures, to the way it fits around the waist, to the vibrant colors (finally white unis don't look gray anymore)
    Screens look ok.
But for me, this year, I would like to see more gameplay than anything. I wish they would the developers would play the game, and explain new features, gameplay etc. I think they did something like that in years past but not recently.
I've been a 2K player and have bought the title every year (dating back to Dreamcast days). This would be my first year not buying this until seeing reviews, twitch streams etc to see if it would be a buy or pass for me. Every game has flaws, etc, but last year was the first time I did not get past November playing this game before trading it away.

PG has a orange wristband? colored wristbands were in the game last year?

They've been in the game for several years actually. White, black, then team color 1 and 2.
Love the screens and find them really realistic. Amazed by how much the models, jerseys, and players look so different in less than a year.
I keep seeing 2K14 mentioned and outside of crowd lighting that game, while I loved its graphics, was too lit if that makes sense. The players were too glossy, nobody really had muscle definition and everyone's jerseys were worn like how Kobe wore his. From a strictly player model and jersey perspective this looks way way better. Need to see it in motion though to truly judge.

The lighting and skin textures in 2K14 were god-tier and have yet to be topped. 2K15 was a HUGE step back in both regards, and the series has been playing catchup ever since. Player likenesses have certainly improved a TON, but lighting and skin texture still aren't up to 2k14's standards IMO.

I will agree that they've taken crazy steps backwards graphically since 2K14 but only as you said in terms of lighting. Hoping 18 is the game that can really fix that. Gameplay will tell us in due time.

Yep. I really hope they keep that, too. The Bulls lighting was amazing in 2K17. 2K17s lighting trumps 2K14s to me for that reason. Looking at the lighting on the PG camparison pics though it looks different.

I agree. I think the head shapes are better and faces look more slim than previous years.

I think the player models look really good. Liking the way the jerseys fit on the players compared to last year. However, looking at the Paul George pic background the Thunder's court is too brown which makes me think they didn't update the courts to look more like their real life counterpart. Celtics court still looks wrong too compared to real life how it looks on tv. This part of 2k's graphics bothers me the most. Need all the courts too look great.
    MarvellousOne
they don't look bad, hopefully players like KD and Giannis don't look funny in the arms again

I want to see KD, Greek, and SC30 body build in the game.
Important is, can we edit the build like the other game across the street?

I'd be interested in seeing a side-by-side comparison of some of the 2K14 screenshots. I don't know if 2K14 had any official Paul George screens though.
I just remember people being floored by 2K14's next gen look graphically at that point and I'm wondering if we all just got used to the next level of graphics that quickly or if 2K leveled out or stepped things back for whatever reason (I know nothing about how that stuff works but maybe for the sake of memory allocation or something?)
    Here's a single shot comparison:

Lighting is the main reason imo that 2k14 can often give the impression that it's the pentacle of the series graphics wise. Out of curiosity I picked up 2k14 for $2.00 just to compare and while the arena lighting really makes the game pop visually a lot of the cyberfaces in the game are terrifying. There is also way more content in 2k17 when compared to 2k14. I'm no developer but that may explain why 2k14 was able to do some things graphically that few of their following titles have matched.
I've been saying for years that 2k should add a brightness slider to their title...A slider that exists in most all other games such as rpgs, fps, etc.

I agree a Brightness and contrast slider would be nice Madden added this feature in Madden 17 and I loved it.
Looks to me like they sacrificed 14s lighting for more details on the players and court. I look back at gameplay in 14 and the courts kind of look empty. 17 had more fans and camera men on the sidelines so the arenas look more alive and packed. I still think 16 overall had the best graphics overall including lighting in the areans, the body types, jerseys, skin tones, face scans.
Anyway, the graphics in this game looks similar to 17, which is fine with me. I'm really interested in seeing how the shorts fit. I hope the player shorts are now knee length and less baggy since that style seems to be popular.

These guy's shorts are barely reaching their knees these days.
I think the jerseys look good. Can't tell on the arms/body types just yet.
I'm looking for more muscle definition but yeah.... hard to tell. Seems a bit better than 2K17 at a glance.
I'm calling it NOW. NBA 2K has completely fixed the shorts and the legs. I'm calling it. Paul George looks took perfect for them to had messed up the bottom half. Quote me when it goes right!

The odd thing is that Whiteside only has a 70 strength in game lol. He's definitely stronger than guys like Kevin Love who has an 83 strength. Whiteside's strength attribute should be somewhere between an 88 and 92 imo

That's the question. If 2K really cares in detail about player ratings or just be meticulous on the top 30 players and careless with the rest.
Anyway, I'd rather edit first before heading to MyGM.
I think the screens look good for the most part with DeRozan taking the cake. My bro JT of Space Jam (eleague team), His mates are going out next week to play the game. So it looks like 2k is looking to get some gameplay feedback from the top pro am guys. I surely going to be asking them a ton of questions about what they saw.

And video bro if you can.
Should the lack of sweat in these screens be a cause for concern? Players look dry as a bone which also makes the lighting look darker because there is no light reflecting off the sweat on these players, but it's early though so I may be nit picking.

Whiteside is really a big dude. I remembered watching a Pacers vs Heat game last season, and thinking to myself....he looks like he dwarfs Turner, and I thought Turner had a little size to him.

its early to judge the game, body tipes look better , light in faces and body not sure, but its graphics, if i cant pass throgh calderon or a big man in a one on one situation with a point guard the game is still bull****
...I just hope 2k gives us different body types when we create players. Alas, i'm 99% sure they won't and all created players/myPlayers will have the same body type.
That being said these screens look good so far. IT doesn't have that weird massive shoulder body type anymore.
2k will never go back to these visuals I see. To me these are next gen graphics. I take it that means you're not buying it heh.

i mean to be honest i play nba 2k14 currently on pc, and with the mods i have in that game i can literally play using the (URB) from 1985-2017 with an updated 2018 courts, uniforms, stadiums and player faces, not to mention several versions of Olympic teams and more, i also actually have legit own 2k16-2k17 but for some reason i end up going back to 2k14...hmn i wonder why that is...
at any rate, i probably will pass on buying it, unless i really see some significant jump and those screens didn't show that to me. i'm hoping nba live 18 shows promise and i'll prolly do that instead. but good luck and i hope you enjoy it, if you purchase it.

looks good but why does PG13 have a small fro instead of a low cut ceasar? guess he had the fro whenever they scanned him?

He grew his hair out a little earlier in the year which is when he was scanned.
    Footballforever
Honest, very underwhelmed with this screens, looks the same.

How do they look the same when everything last year had players all swollen looking like baby stay puff boys?
I think lighting and player models are more important in sports games, than skin textures and face scans. I'm hoping they finally fixed player models. I just couldn't play w lebron last year, and really, most player models were very bad. Lower bodies looked like dudes with cankles wearing skirts. The players didn't look athletic At all. I agree with most on here..2k14 is still the gold standard graphically.

It all depends on how old you were back then.
Thought this comparison would emphasize how much better the bodies/jerseys look - 2K18 vs 2K17. BIG improvement there IMO.
But definite drop on lighting. There definitely appears to be a "dullness" in the lighting for 2K18 IMO.

To be fair, my parents used to say that about Live 09 on PS3 from the broadcast angle lol. But I get what you're saying.
The more I look at these screenshots compared to shots of 2k17 I'm wondering if they still need to implement or tweak the lighting system.  This is exactly what happened last year.  The early screenshots lacked lighting adjustments that came later and it was a noticeable improvement.
I'm really starting to believe this is the best they can do, and we have no hope of a new graphics engine or gameplay engine.
I got burned out on last years so fast, because it barely felt any different, and the graphics are 2 to 5 percent differences each year.
For once I wished they'd get rid of the cartoon look, with the rubber skin and fat legs. Put real skin textures and muscle structure with mass and lean.
I'm really not impressed with these screenshots because outside of a few stretch marks and some hair styles. It's meh at best!
We should already be at this level of graphics, with the power of PC's and Consoles currently!

Imagine if the Xbox One X wasn't restricted to original Xbox One

It's not! I don't understand where people get that from, you can program a game at it's max and it can be played differently per unit. Same as PC with Low, Medium, High and Ultra.
Obviously the games were designed with Ultra settings but you can downgrade them with a simple setting. The XB1 isn't holding back the X, same as the PS4 isn't holding back the Pro.

And thats where Im hoping Xbox One X graphics will be more than just a 4k hdr upgrade. Id liked better lighting, skin textures,crowd,etc...

The 4K texture packs are no different than the ones used on PC aka HD Textures, they make the games night and day of original files.
Since Xbox One and X are both windows OS Based units it's more than capable and possible.

Where are those pics from Kobe from? As much as I would love to see an NBA game, or any game, with that graphic quality I feel like it would be a struggle to get every single player looking that good and have the game running smooth. Not to mentioned the space that would be needed for other features. Also seems very time consuming. Of course this is coming from someone that knows little about the entire process.
I think in order to get that quality the two key things would be power (of the console/PC) and time. 2k would probably have to skip a release or work on a new graphics engine behind the scenes just to reach that quality.

If the competition has reached this level of detail, I'm sure 2k should have surpassed it by now. Some kind of way they haven't.

When's the release date (more or less)?
I'm itching to buy it already.

I believe early release for those who pre-order is September 15th. And general release is September 19th.

BShadows--Miss your old college hoops rosters. I hope 2k18 can have a Westbrook half as good as that one.

Thanks brother, yeah I really miss doing them! Even with our PC Mods of College Hoops I miss doing those. Just got old and got less time to do them.
Glad you remember and appreciated them, thanks so much!
The lighting in the Embiid pic kinda gives me 2k14 vibes
    Lowkey, it's like a perfect blend of 2k14 & 2k17
Too bad it probably won't reflect that well off of players, in game
    MoneyOvaHuds

See I'm just not digging the graphics, even the hair looks like a Afro wig from party city. #smh
Outdated and needs a massive overhaul to realism at this point.

What a remarkable improvement...shoulders are proportioned way better, biceps look way more toned, eyes look much more life-like, skin texture & sweat looks 10x more natural, and the facial expression looks a lot less cartoonish
Unless they individually scanned each & every player's body this year, then I'm pretty sure that all of this is going to benefit the CAP's in a huge way
Notice in the 2k17 pic, they got Embiid under skin tone 2, & that body type & facial expression is the same body type & facial expression that all created players have
Wouldn't surprise me if (in the 2k18 pic) Embiid is now displaying a new version of skin tone 2, a new default body type, & if they went ahead and re-created all of the facial expressions
If so, I'm hoping they found a way to make the facial features (like lips, cheeks, eyes, eye bags, discolorations...etc) look more realistic too
Created player's discolorations SHOULD blend in with the face the same way that it does in the Embiid scan...as of right now, they got it to where it just makes their faces look bleached & their eyes look raccoon-ish

That doesn't look anywhere near as good as the 2k18 screenshot but I'm assuming the 2k18 screenshot is rendered the same way as a cut scene not in game footage as such.

The big difference I see here is that 2k18 Embiid doesn't suffer from puffy cheek fat head syndrome. Looks a lot better....waiting for more info....

I especially hate that one duck face expression, where the lips poke out, eyebrows raise, & cheeks get really fat & puffy...outside of LeBron, it truly throws everybody's face off...hopefully they took that out of the game
    Boltman
Yea that 2K18 Embiid looks much better than anything else I've seen in here so far (even those bshadows 2k17 Embiid pics).

Agreed. Best looking 2k render I've seen since LeBron in 2k14

I'll be happy if that lighting is consistent on the court.
I am happy with the body models and jerseys thus far I must say.

The lighting in that image is like a perfect blend of 2k14 & 2k17 lighting. I'd be blown away if it reflected that way off of players, on the court.

Definitely didn't see that in the earlier pics and I can't help but speculate the on court lighting has been reduced to be able to run smoother (or something....). Because the MyGM "backstage" pics always seem to be lit well (from memory).
    But here's hoping.
One year I'd like one of the early released pics to be taken from a broadcast view to us to chew on...... :)

You're right, those first images lead me to believe that the lighting is gonna be really dim, but colors are going to pop way more. I'll take that tradeoff for now.
And yeah, that would be really awesome. We'd be able to analyze so many things from just that one photo.

See that's interesting to me. Because I don't know how it works from a developmental standpoint.... but hypothetically if we took (let's face it) the dullest lit version (2K15) and played it maxed out on a very high end PC, would it be lit like 2K14?
Or was the game just not developed with good lighting?
I guess my point is, if 2K18 is developed with poor lighting (to fit other modes etc. in), does the platform matter?
Yea I can't get to excited about the cutscene images because well cutscene always look better then the on court graphics, but I hope those first 3 screenshots are early builds because the lighting was a lot darker then 2k17s lighting. And even the cutscene has sweat where the 3 screenshots have no sweat at all.

Yeah see I figured this also.....
But here's the thing. If I'm 2K, do I launch my VERY HIGHLY ANTICIPATED first screens of 2K18 from a build that dressed up to the max (lighting and all)?
If anything, they'd dress it up more than the final product would be..... Ubisoft do it... :)
I (like everyone) hope it is an early build. But I just can't get there. Can't comprehend them releasing poorly lit, half developed pics as their first pics....

You make a good point and the pics they released last year for 2k17 was the same as the final product so I am basically wishfully thinking, I just can't do the 2k15 lighting again that game I hardly played due to the bad lighting alone.
2k should really invest in a brightness/contrast slider because lighting seems to be an issue for them almost on a yearly basis, at least a slider would be a slight fix where we can get the lighting how we want it to be.
Players skin texture on 2K17 looks like low texture/resolution, i dont know why 2K choose this maybe because lighting. On 2K18 what we have seen on photos they bring back 2k14/2k16 graphics but with body models improved.
The Paul George image should've have never been released IMO
    1. The lighting is horrible
    2. His hair is way off
    3. The ball ain't even close to it's natural color
    4. His scan looks downgraded from 2k17
    5. The color of OKC's court still looks inaccurate
Just too many question marks for one photo
Sh*t basically gave people the greenlight to be concerned & unimpressed

I'm already fairly confident they have - assuming from what I've seen of course.
But none the less, VERY keen to see Giannis and Cupcake for confirmation.

Golden State was a eyesore with Steph and KD
I still remember devs getting defensive on Twitter about fans never being satisfied when KD model complaints happened.
I also remember being called a troll by other OS members when I posted this. Haha.....
Looking at the 3 screenshots it's basically the Paul George pic thats bothering me the most the only thing that looks good in that pic is the new Nike Jersey and his body type his skin color is even too dark IMO. In the Derozan pic the lighting actually looks a little better, wish 2k would release more in game screenshots soon.

Haha nah, but in all seriousness, my thought process in posting that pic was hand on heart, me being constructive. Something was wrong with that body model.
I personally am excited to see the jerseys and body models based on these pics we've seen. I think I already know what to expect from the lighting (sadly) but it won't stop me from playing the game - if there are not any game breakers to be found.....

    Enjoyably of course.
the color of the courts are way off in many nba 2ks, the light too, yesterday y play 2k16 and was way better graphycally compared to 2k17. for example the buck and okc courts never been good coloured in 2k16/17, never played live but in the trailer of live 18 you sea harden doing a eurostep in okc court and the color is accurate , same as giannis doing an eurostep dunk and the court and lighting of the stadium is the right. Clippers and Lakers court never was good in the las two games, in live yes. i dont understand how you make the court and you fail in the colors and light, seem simple compared the way and deep nba 2k is . sorry for my english

Facts lol probably why 2k never went that route that pic would be disected to the clothes the crowd is wearing all the way to the exit sign in the background being green instead of red lol
Yes, the Clippers (much like the 76ers alternate red jersey) suffered from a pinkish red color. Although, this is supposedly something they had fixed.
Hopefully with Nike coming on board the guide they follow is more accurate.
They have always struggled in the department of accurate shades of colors (Knicks dark blue jerseys last year) and court lighting.
