NBA 2K18
First NBA 2K18 Screenshots Revealed, Featuring Nike and Advertisements
2K has just released the first NBA 2K18 screenshots of Paul George (Overall rating 91), Isaiah Thomas (Overall rating 89) and DeMar DeRozan (Overall rating 89).
The screenshots not only show off player faces, builds and uniforms, but they also feature advertisements on the NBA jerseys, along with the Nike Swoosh logo, beginning this year with their global multiyear partnership.
Check out the screenshots and post your thoughts.

What I do care is how bad/good the serevrs will be and how long pro am will be broken before they fix it (lets face it this mode is broken at release every year).

That's what I'm waiting on 2k always hiding legs in their screenshots.
I also notice they've made the arm sleeves longer and made the rubberbands "loose" to fit that length. I hope they made a lot more improvements to accessories.
Looking good so far, once I read/hear/see about defensive A.I. & the CAP system then I'll be on-board for this year.

might just be a hardware limitation at this point

I hope they scraped that body all together truthfully.
first thing i noticed!
That would basically be every player
What I don't get is why the mop-guy is still standing there, after all these years. He should be seated at the back/side of the basket pole.
Loving the rubber bands not stuck on the wrists.

....because the graphics took up a lot of resources.
I notice DeRozan has stretch marks on his arms
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o6_0zzxqIc&t=5s
Noticed that as well...nice detail
I'm still bothered by how the shoulders look...I guess the player are still missing the cut up look? I dunno...they just look flat to me....
if this game updates the CAP with body types and allows 5 slots for created team jerseys I will def pre order. Id also like to see CAPs enter the coaching pool after they retire for us MyLeague guys who play well into year 2050. who am I kidding im buying this game either way because i Love NBA. i hope i can override paul pierce retiring lol
That being said, body types look MUCH improved. Something about PG was off in 2k17, both with his jersey fit and body width. Both issues look to be fixed this year, which is encouraging!
Now let's see if KD still looks like Gumby...
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hoping lebron doesn't have the crazy huge kankles and that KD and Giannis aren't anorexic teenagers
PG and Derozan are looking great. Something is off with Isaiah tho. Maybe it's just me but his face just seems kind of off
I wonder if they can enhance lighting and textures for the Pro and Xbox X

nice didn't notice that!
Raptors jersey looks the same as last year in this pic. But look different on the derozan 2k18 cover ????
Strange.....
But overall, I'm liking what I'm seeing....Face scans are great, colors are a little more vibrant, Body types look improved, and the jerseys/accessories look more authentic.
Now I'm just waiting on them to show gameplay & announce a brand new CAP system (hopefully similar to the one in WWE 2k) before I make my preorder
They always get this wrong for some reason. Live absolutely destroys them in this area
They acting like every arena is Staples center & Madison Square Garden

Was looking forward to your input. You were one of the first people last year to point out the body type flaws and opened my eyes to things I didn't notice before, namely the huge shoulders/traps with no neck look. Glad to see, based on the shots, it was addressed this year. Hopefully we continue to see body improvements throughout. I think as long as that overly skinny and lanky build is fixed this year I'll be satisfied. We'll see though.
Maybe it's just me but the jerseys seem to look better this year. Looking at the IT screenshot it looks like the jersey texture is more realistic and that the colors on the numbers and lettering were improved.
Edit:
One little thing that irks me about 2k is the look of the ball. Is it just me or is it too brown and not orange enough? For comparisons sake the ball in NBA Live looks more realistic. Again this isn't major just a tiny detail that has bothered me over the years.
The first released 2k17 screenshots were horrendous, dudes looked like they came straight out of gears of war

Jerseys look much better. From the textures, to the way it fits around the waist, to the vibrant colors (finally white unis don't look gray anymore)
Yeah, jerseys look a lot better this year. Just look how much more vibrant the colors look in the Demar pic
But for me, this year, I would like to see more gameplay than anything. I wish they would the developers would play the game, and explain new features, gameplay etc. I think they did something like that in years past but not recently.
I've been a 2K player and have bought the title every year (dating back to Dreamcast days). This would be my first year not buying this until seeing reviews, twitch streams etc to see if it would be a buy or pass for me. Every game has flaws, etc, but last year was the first time I did not get past November playing this game before trading it away.

They've been in the game for several years actually. White, black, then team color 1 and 2.
I keep seeing 2K14 mentioned and outside of crowd lighting that game, while I loved its graphics, was too lit if that makes sense. The players were too glossy, nobody really had muscle definition and everyone's jerseys were worn like how Kobe wore his. From a strictly player model and jersey perspective this looks way way better. Need to see it in motion though to truly judge.

The lighting and skin textures in 2K14 were god-tier and have yet to be topped. 2K15 was a HUGE step back in both regards, and the series has been playing catchup ever since. Player likenesses have certainly improved a TON, but lighting and skin texture still aren't up to 2k14's standards IMO.
I will agree that they've taken crazy steps backwards graphically since 2K14 but only as you said in terms of lighting. Hoping 18 is the game that can really fix that. Gameplay will tell us in due time.
Sent from my Z981 using Tapatalk
Yep. I really hope they keep that, too. The Bulls lighting was amazing in 2K17. 2K17s lighting trumps 2K14s to me for that reason. Looking at the lighting on the PG camparison pics though it looks different.

I agree. I think the head shapes are better and faces look more slim than previous years.

I want to see KD, Greek, and SC30 body build in the game.
Important is, can we edit the build like the other game across the street?
I just remember people being floored by 2K14's next gen look graphically at that point and I'm wondering if we all just got used to the next level of graphics that quickly or if 2K leveled out or stepped things back for whatever reason (I know nothing about how that stuff works but maybe for the sake of memory allocation or something?)
Here's a single shot comparison:

I've been saying for years that 2k should add a brightness slider to their title...A slider that exists in most all other games such as rpgs, fps, etc.

I agree a Brightness and contrast slider would be nice Madden added this feature in Madden 17 and I loved it.
how bout those hands?!!!! no more french toast sticks!!!
Anyway, the graphics in this game looks similar to 17, which is fine with me. I'm really interested in seeing how the shorts fit. I hope the player shorts are now knee length and less baggy since that style seems to be popular.
These guy's shorts are barely reaching their knees these days.
I'm looking for more muscle definition but yeah.... hard to tell. Seems a bit better than 2K17 at a glance.

The odd thing is that Whiteside only has a 70 strength in game lol. He's definitely stronger than guys like Kevin Love who has an 83 strength. Whiteside's strength attribute should be somewhere between an 88 and 92 imo
That's the question. If 2K really cares in detail about player ratings or just be meticulous on the top 30 players and careless with the rest.
Anyway, I'd rather edit first before heading to MyGM.
And video bro if you can.
I take it that means you're not buying it heh.
Whiteside bullies guys like Love but can't in the game because of STR rating. Even Aldridge has an 82STR.

Whiteside is really a big dude. I remembered watching a Pacers vs Heat game last season, and thinking to myself....he looks like he dwarfs Turner, and I thought Turner had a little size to him.
Turner is a petty big guy as well but both are misrepresented in the game.

That being said these screens look good so far. IT doesn't have that weird massive shoulder body type anymore.
Will definitely try. That is if 2K even lets them capture footage.
i mean to be honest i play nba 2k14 currently on pc, and with the mods i have in that game i can literally play using the (URB) from 1985-2017 with an updated 2018 courts, uniforms, stadiums and player faces, not to mention several versions of Olympic teams and more, i also actually have legit own 2k16-2k17 but for some reason i end up going back to 2k14...hmn i wonder why that is...
at any rate, i probably will pass on buying it, unless i really see some significant jump and those screens didn't show that to me. i'm hoping nba live 18 shows promise and i'll prolly do that instead. but good luck and i hope you enjoy it, if you purchase it.

He grew his hair out a little earlier in the year which is when he was scanned.
How do they look the same when everything last year had players all swollen looking like baby stay puff boys?
Once upon a time 2K promised changing hairstyles and facial hair throughout the season... and then they never talked about it again.
thought you was gonna refer to that unnoticeable nike swoosh on the jersey and the shorts.

I was very young, like 37 years old.
But definite drop on lighting. There definitely appears to be a "dullness" in the lighting for 2K18 IMO.

I hope they didn't go back to the 2k15 lighting where every stadium was dark and gloomy.

2k will never go back to these visuals I see. To me these are next gen graphics. Well here's hoping that the gameplay has improved tremendously for 2k18.
To be fair, my parents used to say that about Live 09 on PS3 from the broadcast angle lol. But I get what you're saying.
Hope so, 2k is known to do that sometimes. Also just speculation I see Wwe 2k18 went to a new graphics engine so maybe 2k did too?

I got burned out on last years so fast, because it barely felt any different, and the graphics are 2 to 5 percent differences each year.
For once I wished they'd get rid of the cartoon look, with the rubber skin and fat legs. Put real skin textures and muscle structure with mass and lean.
I'm really not impressed with these screenshots because outside of a few stretch marks and some hair styles. It's meh at best!
We should already be at this level of graphics, with the power of PC's and Consoles currently!

Imagine if the Xbox One X wasn't restricted to original Xbox One
It's not! I don't understand where people get that from, you can program a game at it's max and it can be played differently per unit. Same as PC with Low, Medium, High and Ultra.
Obviously the games were designed with Ultra settings but you can downgrade them with a simple setting. The XB1 isn't holding back the X, same as the PS4 isn't holding back the Pro.

The 4K texture packs are no different than the ones used on PC aka HD Textures, they make the games night and day of original files.
Since Xbox One and X are both windows OS Based units it's more than capable and possible.

Where are those pics from Kobe from? As much as I would love to see an NBA game, or any game, with that graphic quality I feel like it would be a struggle to get every single player looking that good and have the game running smooth. Not to mentioned the space that would be needed for other features. Also seems very time consuming. Of course this is coming from someone that knows little about the entire process.
I think in order to get that quality the two key things would be power (of the console/PC) and time. 2k would probably have to skip a release or work on a new graphics engine behind the scenes just to reach that quality.

Lowkey, it's like a perfect blend of 2k14 & 2k17
Too bad it probably won't reflect that well off of players, in game
See I'm just not digging the graphics, even the hair looks like a Afro wig from party city. #smh
Outdated and needs a massive overhaul to realism at this point.
What a remarkable improvement...shoulders are proportioned way better, biceps look way more toned, eyes look much more life-like, skin texture & sweat looks 10x more natural, and the facial expression looks a lot less cartoonish
Unless they individually scanned each & every player's body this year, then I'm pretty sure that all of this is going to benefit the CAP's in a huge way
Notice in the 2k17 pic, they got Embiid under skin tone 2, & that body type & facial expression is the same body type & facial expression that all created players have
Wouldn't surprise me if (in the 2k18 pic) Embiid is now displaying a new version of skin tone 2, a new default body type, & if they went ahead and re-created all of the facial expressions
If so, I'm hoping they found a way to make the facial features (like lips, cheeks, eyes, eye bags, discolorations...etc) look more realistic too

The lighting in that image is like a perfect blend of 2k14 & 2k17 lighting. I'd be blown away if it reflected that way off of players, on the court.
Definitely didn't see that in the earlier pics and I can't help but speculate the on court lighting has been reduced to be able to run smoother (or something....). Because the MyGM "backstage" pics always seem to be lit well (from memory).
But here's hoping.

You're right, those first images lead me to believe that the lighting is gonna be really dim, but colors are going to pop way more. I'll take that tradeoff for now.
And yeah, that would be really awesome. We'd be able to analyze so many things from just that one photo.

See that's interesting to me. Because I don't know how it works from a developmental standpoint.... but hypothetically if we took (let's face it) the dullest lit version (2K15) and played it maxed out on a very high end PC, would it be lit like 2K14?
Or was the game just not developed with good lighting?
I guess my point is, if 2K18 is developed with poor lighting (to fit other modes etc. in), does the platform matter?
Yeah see I figured this also.....
But here's the thing. If I'm 2K, do I launch my VERY HIGHLY ANTICIPATED first screens of 2K18 from a build that dressed up to the max (lighting and all)?
If anything, they'd dress it up more than the final product would be..... Ubisoft do it... :)
I (like everyone) hope it is an early build. But I just can't get there. Can't comprehend them releasing poorly lit, half developed pics as their first pics....
But who knows.....

You make a good point and the pics they released last year for 2k17 was the same as the final product so I am basically wishfully thinking, I just can't do the 2k15 lighting again that game I hardly played due to the bad lighting alone.
1. The lighting is horrible
2. His hair is way off
3. The ball ain't even close to it's natural color
4. His scan looks downgraded from 2k17
5. The color of OKC's court still looks inaccurate
Just too many question marks for one photo
