FIFA 20 Career Mode Adds More Depth & Authenticity

This year in FIFA 20, Career Mode allows players to shape the future of their club with new features that are focused on bringing more depth and authenticity to the game – some of the highlights include:

  • Create and customise your manager with more options that let you change the body type, skin tone, clothing, and hairstyles, and even create female managers for the first time
  • Directly impact your team’s morale and performance through interactive press conferences, squad rotation, one-to-one chats, and more
  • Dynamic UI reflects the authentic branding of the Premier League, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, LaLiga Santander, MLS, and UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League
  • Control your players’ potential OVR with Dynamic Player Potential – the better they play on the pitch, the higher their potential will grow
  • Best career moments are highlighted in the News Feed with new Live News Screenshots from matches you play

  1. I like the changes some might say they didn't go far enough but based on the previous "changes" I'd say these are very good. It's a good start to build on and if they continue to acknowledge CM in the coming years. The community shouldn't let up though and should continue to express the need for further changes.

Sure, they left out a lot of stuff that I'd like to see, but I'm really happy with some of the changes. The CPU finally fielding their best 11 is HUGE for me. It's been so annoying having to do a ton of editing before starting a Career Mode so that I can get teams to use their real lineups. Hopefully, that will be unnecessary, this year, or at least not AS necessary. Love being able to turn off those stupid International job offers, too.
I really like what has been added. I give the info a B+. I'd give it an A+, if they mention more countries to send youth scouts. I've waited years to send a scout to Wales, Iceland and other places.
I will be satisfied with what they added, but disappointed if it doesn't work as advertised. Sad to have an outlook like that, but I've been burned by "EA pre release hype talk," in years past.
Alright... I like it. A lot.
Added an option to disable International Management job offers at the start of a new career.

Sweet, but can you PLEASE add an option to disable coach firings? Like you can in every other EA Sports game? Please? Pretty please?
I hope there´s a point of buying older than 30 year old players ,not that at the age of 32 your player declines -10 on all physical stats in one year..ridiculous.Im pretty sure they haven´t touched the sim engine for ages, same scorelines all the time,so predictable, going 2:0 you know you will never loose the game etc.
Not bad changes imo. However, I still don't understand why the cpu team can't adopt their line up i.e. if they buy a second world class striker and they played 4-2-3-1 before they will still play the same formation afterwards instead of a 4-4-2.
The changes are great and I will be buying this year.
I imagine you all agree with me that I just wish this level of change was consistent year to year. if it had been we'd be in really good shapre this year.
But knowing EA they wont touch career mode for at least 2-3 years now.
I've pounding the table for dynamic potentials forever.
I remember using like a 58 overall with a 65 potential, scoring a goal a game and then seeing nothing change.
It's just not how real life works. You should be rewarded for performing. Period.
    Hands down my favourite addition.
Excellent new stuff, for sure a day one buy for me this year. Excited to see what new leagues they might add. Hopefully Cincinnati FC is in this year.
One question for everyone please, this is my first year playing. Could Someone explain this feature.
"-Increased the initial Composure attribute values for generated youth players and redistributed weights for player growth between physical, mental and skill attributes to allow for more physical growth."
Is this a good feature, what will this help with the youth players. I filled a team with youth players this year and they really played bad to me compared to real guys. Will this help? Wonder if anyone really uses these youths

One of my biggest pet peeves too cjacks.
This fix alone should make it fun for people who like the challenge of brining a lower league side into the Premier League without being forced to basically sign a new starting XI.

This and (fingers crossed) opponents actually starting their best players have the potential to be huge changes for this year's Career Mode. I enjoyed FIFA 19, but my interest in it died off a bit earlier than usual. I'm pumped for FIFA 20 now.

Exactly. I already know I'm going to run through a few years at least with Dortmund, but after that I want to go delve into a young lower tier team and try and turn them into a dynasty. Having young studs perform and grow together should be exciting!
Last part of the puzzle is to get consistent gameplay. It was so frustrating to have my players out of nowhere move like they had an infinite speed boost or suddenly go dumb and forget how to make a simple back pass regardless of ratings. I played a ton of 19 and that was a game that at its' best could be described as all over the place.
Getting correct youth ethnicity is something that i'm really excited about though. I wanted to start a J or K league CM for some variety but getting YA propsects that looked like he was from Sweden with the name Kubo Yamamoto was so immersion breaking.
I'm in for FIFA 20. Hopefully everything comes together so we can get some fun and positive threads going.

Yeah it was cool a few years back when they tweaked the database names so they at least sounded like they were from the country you scouted but some variety in ethnicities is a welcome addition.
I'm a bit conflicted when it comes to these new Career Mode changes. On the one hand they are all very good and if they are not bugged and work properly (something you always need to consider with an EA Sports title) will add a new wrinkle to Career Mode and will make it more playable for an entire year. The addition of dynamic potential is particularly exciting because in previous FIFA's it really drains the long-term play-ability of the games knowing that players always reach their potential which also results in a more arcade style game around the 4-5th season where every player in the top divisions have OVR's in the 80's. I welcome the media additions and customizable managers as well because it will make managing the club more difficult, and its annoying when two managers that look the exact same and shake hands after a game.
All that being said there are still a lot of features that need to be integrated into the game. Youth Academy, training, scouting, and managers game tactics all need to be desperately updated. Also I've bought every game since FIFA 13 and the Career Mode has barely changed. I feel reluctant to give praise for one game with actual improvements. If nothing changes in the next 2-3 FIFA's this all means nothing. Career Mode needs to be addressed in each FIFA moving forward. Also adding a new league or broadcast style for a particular league is not a Career Mode feature. It appears in other game modes. Finally its possible the new press conferences will become greatly repetitive like the transfer cut scenes from the past two FIFA's.
Overall I'm optimistic, but not 100% sold the new features will greatly improve the game.

I get what you’re saying. It’s frustrating this level isn’t consistent every year.
If it was we’d be in realltgood shape. I still wish there was a better approach for training scouting and youth dev.
That said, I’m still excited for these features. He bar is so low that this type of attention gets me fired up!
I wanted more, but man this is the most they've added to career mode in about years. I'll take it for now if it actually works as intended. Really hope the variable potential is a thing that works correctly.
    ?
Correcting the CPU line-up logic is huge. I'm so sick of having to use two controllers to change their lineup before each match. But.. I'm sceptical of the wording in the pitch notes - "you should see far fewer instances in which the opponent isn’t using their prime starting XI in important matches". What constitutes an important match for them?
Eg. If I'm 6th in the PL table with a newly promoted Preston side halfway through the season and come up against City, will they still rest half their best XI because my club lacks reputation despite my ladder position?
Very good additions but not enough to make me want to spend money on the game again. FIFA and EA have to come a long way to earn my trust again. I'm happy for the community, especially this one, which will enjoy the changes a lot, I bet.
yoooooooo we got increased saved slots! Where can i pre-order?
For real though this stuff looks good. I'm not a MUT guy but i read through their blog and they did a ton to that mode this year. I assumed between that and Volta that we would get left out again, but this is some good stuff. Player morale is one of those things that, if implemented correctly, could really make career feel dynamic and interesting. Same with dynamic potential. It will finally be worth it to play YA kids instead of letting them sit and grow on their own. It seems that something has changed in general with Fifa this cycle where they're going big in all of their modes and it's incredible to see. Obviously need to see the final product, but for the first time in years it seems like they're putting the effort into the game that we desire and if they keep on this track then career mode in 2 more years could be epic. Very please with this.
The cynical part of me believes they looked at Football Manager and tried to find the differences, and they came out with "Ah yes, pre and post match press conferences, player interactions, and manager customisation!" which are arguably the most tedious and sometimes strange parts of FM.
On the other hand, I ain't gonna pretend like I don't methodically create an atmosphere surrounding whatever club I'm at with the interactions on FM, so it'll be nice to try and do it on FIFA as well.
I assume the Player Career Mode was untouched.

I actually thought the same thing when I saw what they were offering. Though I have to say the manger customisation here looks neater than what I've accomplished on FM

Do the new features also apply for player Career? Or am I the only one still playing that?

Most gameplay features will. Since this is the thread discussing career mode details for 20 it is safe to assume most here will play it. What specifically are you asking about?

Well I’m wondering if the cutscenes will apply also for player Career, as of now I only see for managing

If I understand the Twitter comments I've read I don't believe anything was specifically fixed in player career some of the stuff like coach said probably carried over though.

I'm sorry I misread the original post that you're doing a player career mode. I really don't know what is available for that but if i had to guess (just a guess) some of the items like the press conference by the manager may not be there; i would hope negotiation though could be in the game. However I really don't have any insights on this sorry.
I'm actually getting nervous the more I think about the changes, especially regarding player interaction.
It popped into my head today when I was playing a career. I got one of those annoying player emails ," Hey coach, are you going to experiment with the lineup?"
I thought, "Oh no, in FIFA 20, if I don't start this idiot, will it affect him?"
If all they did was add a layer to the current layer, I won't be happy. Think of all the emails we get in career mode, now add in the new ones, then add in player performance being altered if you don't do what they want.
I don't know how the systems will work, but I'm getting nervous and depending on how it's implemented, it could get out of hand very fast.....forcing me to play for a month and quit.
I like what I've read. This is a lot, a lot (!!!!) added in one year to career mode (at least on paper so far). With all that new stuff, I'm pretty sure some bugs will come with the package. We should see a lot of fixes over the course of 20. I wouldn't complain though, this is how tech works in 21st century, you build something quick and put it out there and then fix the problems later. Get used to it. Even the planes you fly in are like that (well duh exaggeration or maybe not?).
Someone had asked about the youth players' physical evolution a few pages ago. This has been something that kept bugging me. All the youth academy players are physically super weak (and yes that is somewhat realistic to a point), but it also is super hard to train them to improve physicality. So hopefully this feature will help that somewhat.
After reading this, I'm way way more excited with the release of 20. I was even thinking maybe I'll stick to my 19 career for a while but 20 has just gotten seriously exciting.

I EXPECT to see you two in the Chelsea thread on here once the season starts for us this Sunday!
This is a great list of of changes and frankly alot thats been added. Fixing the AI/lineup bug is a major step, imo (although of course it was incredibly annoying that nothing changed for this from 18->19). Fixture congestion / fixes being implemented is also a really nice QOL upgrade.
I'm excited to see how the dynamic player potential works, and what these changes will mean for YA scouting. (Also great to see that ethnicities/names have been addressed for scouting).
I also love the manager customization tbh, and the fact that you can change our outfit game by game. Thats actually really awesome. (Still wish you could choose an existing manager though, like just being Pep and spending a few last years at City before moving back to Barca or something).
The press conferences will become stale imo, but might be fun to mess around with.
Overall great list of changes and its nice to see that they clearly heard the feedback that Career Mode changes are still needed, even in the face of the overwhelming popularity of UT.

Yeah, I guarantee that is all coded in under the hood. PES has it too. It's supposed to add variety to gameplay I guess. It is stupid and annoying.
First of all they need to fix simming. There are way too few goals scored. League's best scorers have 15-20 goals. Teams like barca or mancity score 60-70 at best. FIFA's career mode is lacking depth and realism. If you check other leagues standings, they will randomly change. You can't see player stats from other leagues. There is zero immersion. But hey, now you can be a woman. It's obvious that fifa is missing the small things that shouldn't be even discussed like realistic in-game stats. If you got the basics, care about things like morale and other stuff.

Apparently, it's not fixed, atleast just partial.

ManCity is one of the few team which looks realistic with 96 Goals. EFL League looks good too.
ParisSG 70 GF in FIFA vs. 105 in RL
FC Bayern & Dortmund constantly shoot about 80 Goals per Season -> in FIFA, 70 Goals for FCB and 48 Goals (!) for Dortmund.
    Seria A looks good too
Barcelona & RM score about 90 Goals in best -> about 70 Goals in FIFA.
I don't have insight to top-scorers, but they were indeed utter garbage in FIFA 18 compared to RL.
Though they added some new stuff in career-mode, which looks appealing, the simming and realistic league tables is a thorn in my (&others) side since years for a competitive immersive career mode.

And you should be nervous b/c this was working very poorly in the CM beta. You'd get lots of player conversations that start with a rotation or sporadic player asking for more play time, but whereas in 19 you could ignore them, now they'll hand in transfer requests.
It's bad right now and if it's not fixed by release, it could very well ruin the whole thing.

If not fixed by release they'll definitely have it sorted by December claiming they didn't know it was an issue, even though every beta tester knew it was a problem.

AGree with that 100%.If you sim your own games ,it´s the same scores almost all the time.2:0 up, you know you will never loose a game and etc...IT´s been that poor for many many years now.
