FC 26 Update 1.4.0 Bringing Improved AI Defending, Gameplay Tweaks and More

EA Sports FC 26 update 1.4.0 is set to arrive later this week bringing a noticeable adjustment to how AI defending behaves. The team is reducing AI defender reaction times when marking the ball carrier, which should lead to defenders leaving more space as they transition between actions. The goal is to make attacking play feel smoother and more free flowing.

The update also focuses on improving overall responsiveness and easing frustration across multiple areas of play. CPU behavior in Squad Battles has been reworked after feedback pointed to overly passive sequences and long stretches of low pressure possession. The CPU will look to play with more intent and attack more often, rather than prioritizing ball retention.

Player movement will see some changes with updated Acceleration Types height values. These changes adjust the minimum and maximum height thresholds that determine run types, leading to more players qualifying for the Lengthy run type.

Defensive reliability has been improved in critical moments as defenders positioned on the goal line will make automatic clearances in clear last second situations where user reaction time may not be enough. Physical play has also been tuned with shoulder challenges now favoring players with significantly higher Strength.

Acrobatic shots, like bicycle kicks taken immediately after a flick, have seen a further reduction in accuracy. Additional tweaks and improvements are included for Football Ultimate Team, Career Mode, and Clubs, with full details available in the latest Pitch Notes.
