‘Everybody's hands are bloody’: Jets player's shocking admission about disastrous season goes way beyond blaming the coach

He's owning it.

The New York Jets ended their terrible season on Sunday with a huge loss to the Buffalo Bills. It was their last game at Highmark Stadium. The Jets finished with a 3-14 record in their first season under head coach Aaron Glenn.

After the game, Glenn said the bad season was his fault. He told reporters that he let down the players and the team. But linebacker Jermaine Johnson didn’t agree with what Glenn said. When reporters asked Johnson about Glenn’s comments, he tried to be careful with his words. But then he spoke honestly about his own part in the awful season.

Johnson said it was the worst season he’s ever been part of as a team. He made it clear that he was part of the problem too.  “Honestly, and I hope y’all don’t quote this wrong, but it’s definitely been the worst season I’ve been a part of as a team,” he said, according to Sports Illustrated. “Key word a part. I’ve got my hands in it, my hands are bloody, everybody’s hands are bloody in this. So for him to say it’s on him, I don’t fully agree.”

This Jets defender refused to let his coach take all the blame

“I think everybody’s hands are dirty,” he continued. “I know the character of the men out there, they’re definitely going to remember this feeling and not let it happen again.” This level of accountability is rare in sports, unlike situations where coaches face suspensions after tragic incidents.

Johnson is confident they will remember this horrible feeling. He believes they won’t let it happen again next season. The team will need to stay focused, and players should avoid distractions like when star athletes talk to opponents.

The linebacker is entering his fourth year with the team and has been a consistent presence on the field, appearing in 14 games this season. Over that span, he recorded 43 tackles, ranking 10th on the team, and added three sacks, good for fourth on the roster.

Despite his individual contributions, success has largely eluded him during his tenure with the Jets. Johnson has never experienced a winning season with the team, and this year’s disappointing performance marked a particularly low point for both him and the organization. The struggles on the field underscored the challenges the Jets have faced in recent seasons, leaving players and fans alike frustrated by yet another campaign that fell short of expectations.
