Enthusiast Gaming Acquires Operation Sports

The time has finally come… and trust me when I say, it was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make.

Operation Sports has been sold to Enthusiast Gaming and I’ll be working for them. Before you cringe at the thought… let me assure you, that nothing is changing. We will continue to post our news and featured articles, and the Forums are not going anywhere. This is good news.

While selling the site was never a goal of mine, in order for it to continue to succeed, and get to the next level, this was something that had to be done. Simply put, we did not have the resources to add the features we wanted, so this decision will bring the site to its full potential.

Operation Sports, and this industry has huge potential for growth. Just look at what is happening in the eSports space as an example of this. Juggling my full-time job, with my OS responsibilities, has always been a struggle. Now though, with the additional help of the team at Enthusiast, I’m now able to work my regular job and can come home to work on the site that I’ve poured my heart and soul into, for over 20 years. This will make a huge difference and I’ll never lose that passion.

When Enthusiast approached us with this opportunity, and we learned more about their commitment to authentic gaming communities (look at Nintendo Enthusiast as an example, the CEO of Enthusiast started that site from his bedroom) we knew this was the right decision for OS.

Times have most certainly changed, but we still have a strong group of the most hardcore sports gamers on the Internet. I love all of you and can’t thank you enough for the time you put into this site.

To my admin Mill (easily the best Twitch streamer out there) and the mods of the Forum. Thank you. While we obviously can’t see everything that happens, in every thread, it’s great to have people in the community to keep things in check. This also includes everyone in our community, reporting posts that we might have missed.

A big hug for Raychel and Chase for all of their hard work in getting our featured articles online, and of course, thank you to all of our writers. We have added quite a few of them to the list, so keep your eyes peeled.

Of course, a big thanks to my partner Matt, for all the hard work behind the scenes and the long discussions we’ve had over the years.

I’ll be in touch with many of you, either in this thread, PM or on Twitter. I just wanted to state that we aren’t going anywhere, it’s business as usual, but we now have someone in our corner that can take us to another level.

As always, when we have things to announce, you will hear it from me first. Fun stuff coming, I’m excited.

  1. This caught me by surprise, Steve, but it sounds like you've made a decision you're happy with and confident in. I'm excited to see where Operation Sports goes from this point forward. Hopefully it becomes even bigger than you imagined.
To say that I'm surprised/shocked would be an understatement. I never thought I would see the day that Operation Sports would become something else, even if the name is staying.
But it sounds like this decision is what is best for the site and all parties involved. And to hear/read that nothing is really changing in the daily activities really helps ease any worries about the change.
Thank you Steve for everything you've done. I look forward to Operation Sports at the next level.
To add some WWE 2k flare You sold out, you sold out, you sold out!
Just kidding. As someone who has lurked for 10 plus years commenting time to time congrats on the journey. Thank you for all you have done to grow this.
Crap...I'm gonna have to put on a suit and tie when I come posting in the forums now :google:
Seriously though, this must've been one of the toughest decisions you've had to make. I know on the sports gaming end of things this site has always had great credibility and a strong reputation among the industry folks. This next step will allow you to expand and become even more of a strong and trusted voice in the sports gaming and now Esports gaming world.
Congrats and thank you very very much for these 20 years of blood sweat and tears.
I have been a member here since 2006 when I randomly stumbled across this site looking for Madden information.  Since signing up, I check this site nearly daily for all of my gaming information and updates. Over the past 12 years, I do not think there is any site I have spent more time visiting than OS.
Steve- All I can say is THANK YOU for your commitment to this site and the gaming community as a whole. I look forward to the next chapter and growth for Operation Sports.
    Cheers!- Chris
Wow! Not sure if I should be sad or happy but congrats on the deal. I've been on this site since 98 and found very useful information both gaming and non-gaming. Sports related or non-sports related. I hope much doesn't change and this is just another phase in O.S. development.
    Once again, congrats!
Thanks for everything Steve. For the past 15 years, OperationSports has been my home page. I don't see that changing any time soon.
    Keep on pushing ahead!
Congratulations!! I love the OS and what it has meant to the sports gaming community since forever. I went from being a college student reading OS, to now being a husband, and a father, who reads the OS with my son lol. I'm eager to see the growth ahead and I hope I can get back to writing some more blog posts in the future.
Congrats, Steve! I'm sure, as you said, this wasn't an easy decision to make, but sounds like it's a great opportunity for the future of OS.
If you expand your pool of writers, I'd be happy to contribute.
250k is no joke, I think everyone here would have done the same. I've been a member since '03 and had been visiting the site frequently before becoming a member. I don't post with any regularity, but I visit the site daily. Congrats and good luck.
As a 44 year old gamer who has spent many nights on these forums (mostly when we had college football and basketball games) I appreciate all you did for the community.   A place where old dads could still geek out and try sliders and rosters to make there games "more real".  I hope with the change the community remains and your "baby" grows into something you never imagined possible...in a good way.
Honestly Steve I assumed you did this full time and it generated enough money to pay you full time. Hats offer the what must have been an enormous struggle keeping this monster of a site going.
its a shame that you can’t do this full time under the new ownership.
whatever happens thanks for everything this site has provided over the years...
I am a US sports fan in the UK And this site kept me sane when I need named rosters for NCAA games for years and when I imported American madden versions coz UK version Didn’t have draft class options... here was the place I got draft classes.
so many times average games have been lifted to Greatness because of this site .
    good luck and thanks
Congrats to you Steve!  I remember lurking this site since  NFL 2k5 by accident and this is the only sports gaming site that I visit so as long as the name stays the same  I’ll still be visiting
Wow!! Congrats Steve. I am a loyalist. I have been coming to OS longer than my 14 year old son. I have never gone to other sites even for a peak; OS has always been my one stop shop for advice, healthy conversation, not so healthy conversation , ideas, laughs, entertainment, friendship, you name it. Thank you for everything you have sacrificed and done to keep it going through the years; and done, to ensure it keeps going.

To a Canadian company, ok I’m a little less scared and maybe the forums will be friendlier lol.
Been around for awhile and my selfishness has me a little scared but congratulations are in order. You made the best most accessible sports gaming site that has brought me pleasure every day.
Congrats, been coming to this site for 7+ years. If a larger entity acquired you. You did something right. Hope you and the true people that created this way back get rewarded handsomely. Good job and best of luck on how this plays out. :waytogo:
Wow, talk about shocking but reading your post Steve, I can understand exactly why this decision was made and how it will help grow the site in the future. Thanks so much for all the hard work you and others have put into this place!! Discovering this place several years ago took my video gaming to the next level!!
congrats. cant say I didnt see this coming.   I knew this day would come, when OS would be sold.
Hopefully OS does not lose any of its authenticity after this sale.
Congratulations. Having a company that wants to buy your "baby" means you did a lot right with it. You should be proud of your work and know that you earned every penny you're getting from the deal. Like others, I have been coming here for a LONG time, even years before I finally registered as a community member. This has been my only site to look at for sports gaming news and is a nearly daily stop during my web browsing. Well done, thank you for all of your hard work, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for both you and the site.
Congratulations Steve. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Well, maybe Ghandi....but he didn't run a website!
Since I was too cheap to ever buy an OS shirt and since giant "E" shirts will be sold now....if you have any leftover "Large" in the back room, I'll gladly give you my shipping address! :y1:
That's huge. Glad to hear the forums aren't going anywhere, I just bought this blue username. What a waste that would've been.
Sounds like OS got an investor. Interested to see what features Steve has always wanted to implement with the right resources.
Congrats Steve. Definitely deserved with all the hard work put in over the years. This has been a daily stop for 15+ years for me and will continue to be.
Congrats Steve! Probably a difficult decision for you but sounds like the right one. OS has become its own brand and I'm excited to see how Enthusiast can continue to build on the legacy that Steve & Co started so many years ago.
Can we all agree on one thing - bring back the gold logo!

    Good for you man!
Does this have any correlation with the amount of spam friend requests i've been getting the last two days?

Not sure if there is or isn’t a correlation but there is a thread regarding them in Steve’s forum regarding them.
When you get a chance, can you check it and report any new ones that haven’t been reported yet?
They are tough to track down since they aren’t posting and they seem to be smart enough to not send friend requests to Mods.
Crazy. I've been on OS near-bouts a decade now and never thought it'd get sold, but if you've vetted the company, I'll trust you. Ultimately, you had to do what was best for you and yours and it sounds like you got a good deal here, so congrats Steve!
My hope is that OS continues to be the thriving community it has been -- we're a pretty diverse group here, but this is one of the few corners of the Internet that I feel is largely working towards the same goal and is a good place to come for passionate, well-thought discourse.
That is due in no small part to your decisions, Steve, so cheers and thanks to you and the team for keeping this place going.
Been here for 8 years now. I signed up when the hype for NBA 2k11 was at it's highest and I always come here for updates every year. Basketball gaming has been one of my main hobbies since I was about 8 years old playing NBA Jam 2000 on the N64. If I'd known about this place sooner I would've been here then. Congrats on your accomplishments with this site and good luck in the future.
I'm sure we all greatly appreciate all of your hard work, dedication, and the enormous contribution OP had made to the sports gaming community. I really am happy for you, and delighted to know that it will still be business as usual. Congratulations on your accomplishment!
I’m not a fan of this because it normally means the new owners could come in shut down OS or fold us in to their forum. I get why from a business side.

From what I can tell they are an investment company and don't have any forums of their own.
From the release they mentioned other sites they've acquired and while none of them were site I'm familiar with, they all seem to have their own identity.
Congratulations! I hope that you got a nice payout for this and continue to get some profit sharing.

That's awesome bro. This site has been my first stop since forever. I am glad that you have made it to this level and I hope that you found happiness with this transaction. Congrats on your deal and I hope that you take some time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. My passion for sports gaming has only increased as time has passed and I look forward to the growth of this site. Peace homie!
