EA Sports UFC 4 Patch 2.02 Available - Patch Notes Here

EA Sports UFC 4 game update 2.02 is available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, focusing on gameplay feedback from the community, including changes that will positively affect things like stamina, takedown defense, body strikes, and more.

Check out the patch notes below.

  • Fixed issues that could prevent denying takedowns while moving or striking
    • Previously, if a user held the movement input for too long (even for only one frame) after they had already pressed low block to deny a takedown, it would count as an attempt to deny a takedown turn that had not happened yet and would result in a successful takedown for their opponent. This only occurred in cases of “late” (partial) denials, including some cases where the fighters hadn’t made contact yet.
    • Previously, pressing striking modifier buttons, such as for throwing hooks or overhands, could cause them to be interpreted as an attempt to apply a reversal to a takedown that had already started. A denial attempt made after that would then count as a late reversal attempt and, therefore, fail.
    • Those two issues were affecting all shooting takedowns, including the power takedowns. The fix will help users deny more driving and late denials on takedowns.
  • Fixed an issue with Imanari Roll being available in ‘Stand and Bang’ and KO modes
  • Fixed exploit with Cage Back Clinch drives
  • Fixed an issue with Von Flue Choke stamina
    • The stamina for the attacker and defender was swapped and the fighter with less stamina had the advantage.
  • Tuned Marathoner Perk
    • The effect of perk is drastically reduced. This was a major component of some of the issues with stamina being reported by the community.
  • Tuned Cage Guillotine chain progress
    • The Cage Guillotine was granting too much progress to the attacker when they hit the chain. We reduced the amount of progress granted by that chain to be a similar amount to the other chains. The team is still investigating changes to balance as it relates to the Standing Guillotine.
  • AI Improvements
    • In guard and half guard, AIs will now avoid striking with the hand holding the opponent’s head down.
    • Reduced AI clinch frequency
  • Tuned Side Control strike damage
    • Significantly reduced damage of all strikes from Dominant Side Control.
  • Tuned Body strike damage
    • Slightly Increased base damage of body jabs, straights, hooks, and uppercuts.
    • The damage is proportional to the stamina drain and the stamina cost so this change indirectly impacts the stamina drain for your opponent and the cost of throwing these strikes.
    • Landing a body shot is always a net positive for the attacker, but be careful not to miss as the increased cost will punish missed strikes more.
  • Updated moves and perks for some fighters
    • Gaethje moveset updates
    • Sandhagen moveset updates
    • Amanda Nunes moveset updates
    • Germaine de Randamie moveset updates
    • Paulo Costa moveset updates
    • Ronda Rousey moveset updates
    • Valentina Shevchenko moveset updates
    • Johnny Walker moveset updates
    • Dan Hooker moveset updates
    • Eddie Alvarez moveset updates
    • John Lineker moveset updates
  • Updated Archetype movesets
    • Added Imanari and osotogari to Archetypes Shark and Vanguard
    • Added osotogari to Engine
  • Updated fighter records based off of recent events that took place before Aug 14th

  1. Just so you don't think there's only 2 (or 3, for that matter) updates in the next patch....

    Am I wrong for thinking this means the patch might be bit more comprehensive than was listed?
    If so I don't think we're gonna see it soon. How long ago was 2.01?
    I can't believe.... how much interest has gone down about the patch spoiler this year. I has been here for 5~6 years. I've never seen before. So sad... What happened to this game........ I think everybody who has supported this franchise is gone. Bye.

    I don't know man. How will the unicorn textures look on it? And the fabric doesn't really go well with the animated textures. It'll be ugly.
    And GameplayDEV did a great job hyping even something as trivial as a patch by spreading some posts on twitter, which is a great platform for it. Discord... not so much imo. I could read them on my phone before without much effort. Now I don't even know where to look.
    They have to do something about stamina. It is making the game almost unplayable for me. I’ve had ranked fights where people throw like 300 punches and only land about 30% of them and are still not tired. Ridiculous.

    Which Silva? If so, I hope they have their throwback attire. Vale tudo shorts for Wand and he needs his pre face lift face. If it's anderson, he needs his classic vale tudo shorts. Same with Aldo. No idea how Jones will look, but I guess more like how he did in UFC 1.

    Good move indeed to not promote this as it looks more like a frickin' hotfix than a true patch. But first thing's first I guess. There should be a career patch sooner rather than later. Might have to fix the stamina first though. I feel this patch doesn't quite help that apart from the body punch boost.
    And help me out here: "side control damage", has it been boosted or nerfed? In UFC3 that was a way overpowered position that was easy to control. I even got way more TKO's from SC than mount. I felt that wasn't the case in UFC4. So it's been improved?

    This technically isnt the first patch. Its an emergency patch because of some online issues and they threw in some fixes. The first patch is due in September.

    I dont think this patch addressed this. You will likely have to wait until the Sept. patch. FYI, I find this part of the AI annoying as hell.

    Patch notes said "Tuned AI clinch frequency" and I noticed guys like Felder and Gaethje don't try to clinch me basically everytime I'm in clinch range.
    Maybe grappler AI's tendency is still too high though.

    Oh ****. Thats a surprise. I was told that the fix wasnt coming for a little bit and I'm playing right now and im seeing them a little too clinch heavy with my sliders all the way at 0.

    Funny you say ....it wasnt until last night that I really noticed just how outdated and limited the fighter choices really are.
    I mean, 3/4 of the LHW and HW divisions are fighters who don't even fight anymore.

    I love this game, but the additions to the roster have been lower than bare minimum and is my ultimate gripe with UFC 4. I know the other issues such as stamina/damage and the game breaking ranked bug will all be resolved. That can be assumed, the devs can be trusted to resolve that. But the questionable direction of this entry and its lackluster roster is a disappointment.
    Sure, they could patch fighters in just like UFC 3 but if we base it off of UFC 3 we won't even scratch the surface. It's a blessing we didn't lose fighters such as Eddie Alvarez and Demetrious Johnson. I'm aware we lost other fighters.
    Also, I don't blame any one person and I don't mean to direct anything towards the hard working devs and game changers. We'd have nothing if not for you. I'll end this the way I started it, I do love this game. It completely fills my itch for an MMA game and I can't wait to have enough of the fundamentals down pat to take on some legendary AI, it was king in UFC 3.

    I’d hate to be the bringer of bad news, but I don’t think we’ll see fighter updates like in years past. Unless they scanned a bunch of guys before the COVID pandemic and just decided not to put them in the game (which would be a boneheaded decision in itself), then how will they realistically be able to get scans done. Canada has restricted all travel from the US so that leaves out guys like Kattar, Gillespie, and font. Even if they wanted to do “mobile” scans at live events from the Apex, I am pretty sure UFC is excluding all non-essential personnel from the Apex building so that they do not run the risk of infecting someone and ruining their fight card.
    I think if we even see a roster update in the next two months we will be lucky to get 1 or 2 fighters, and even if we do roster updates are more likely going to be move set corrections and stat updates based on recent performance. I am going to wait a couple of years to get UFC 4. By then it should have a good amount of fighters added and will be $5 in the PS store like UFC 3. Then again in two years half the roster will be retired or fighting for Bellator just like UFC 3 so may just skip altogether

    I gotta say the punches do much more damage to the body and is affecting stamina better too.Of you got someone rocked ,3 sometimes 2 soild body shots will rock them.Im digging it.Step in the right direction.

    The takedowns draining hardly any stamina from the aggressor on denial is something I called out a long time ago. It really bothered me. Maybe that will be addressed as well.
    For now I would just suggest trying to punish with body knees if you get the single-under denial. Or combo body into head.

    Thank you! Finally someone responds to this. These two things are pretty much needed and separates players. I guess a tad bit bigger window for takedown denial as it seems power doubles still get in pretty frequently. No idea why the bar to fill was changed from 3 when if you played someone like Dmart he pretty much could get takedowns easily.
    I have a suspicion about the first set of fighters to get DLC'ed in.
    I'm going with Kattar and Anderson. Kattar because one of the more notable omissions right now and Anderson because she actually was told she was in apparently and she's fighting for a title.

    I'd rather continue playing UFC 3 where I have control offline.
    Bug-New bug in Career where you lose moves you hVe already oearned since patch. I lost all my subs and the two I still have leg locks and orthodox were dropped to 1 star. Can not view moves in the menu when sparring or in fight. Can not complete move requirements. This only affected my subs as I still have all my learned strikes. Do not k ow if this will affect new Careers or just existing ones but this makes Career currently unplayavle since patch.

    It's bugged. Needs to be fixed via tuner or patch. Hopefully with the next one.

    Yea the 1-2 even tracks you most of the time so you can’t duck under it. They definitely need to beef up the block strength or put a bigger tax on stamina. How often in real life do you see anybody throw more than 3 strike combos?

    Played yesterday. This game is wack man. Why does the UI look like it belongs on a PS2 game? Literally fight night round 3 looked better then this game. Played that silly blitz mode last night for a 1 minute round and it was “stand and bang” rules, except the guy just spammed takedowns with GSP lmao. Seriously, good job taking a franchise and effectively destroying it. Yay for a broken game.

    What annoys me is that since I can only create 22 CAF, it can no longer be exchanged with the fighters that I have created and saved in an external memory, since when I want to remove one from the game individually, it is They delete all of them, I don't see the way to do it, everything is closed, which prevents all the ways of being able to have a store of fighters saved in an external memory, and to go changing them by those of the list of 22 CAF that I have saved in the game.

    I do that too, but even so I dislike that since it only brings 22 CAF, there is no way to exchange them with the ones I can save in my external memory, because the ones I have in different accounts, I will never be able to face them with the of the other accounts, imagine, I have a fighter who is in an account where I have all my light weights and I want to transfer him to another where I have my welterweights, and I want to increase his weight, because as I do not copy point by point as is, I can never change it, even if I copy it to an external memory, since it will erase the rest.
    I do not understand why this game is so closed in all that, and even more when I am using the same console, in the AO Tennis I can do it, I can even copy this data to another console without problems, really if this if I could do it it would be for my fantastic, because despite so many things I would like for this game (freedom to edit, without archetypes, injuries, tie , being able to change the color of pants ...) I still like the game and I can enjoy it a lot, but having So few possibilities of saving my created fighters, only 22, and not even being able to exchange those 22 CAF with a memory that could have an infinite number of them created, is one of the things that bothers me the most.

    I think it might honestly be a range issue along with the 1-2 tracking you like a heat seeking missile. You just get so much damn range and travel distance from it that it makes all other strikes seem secondary unless you are adding it to your 1-2.

    In regards the crucifix I believe if you transition to the side the opponent ISN'T at and cancel the transition the other side transition is now a momentum transition. Worth testing because I can't fully remember.

    Try R2 + flick your right stick while your opponent throws a strike. You must time it well but works fine for me

    Anyways, I ended up getting a dub after immediately going to the body. Any time they just start holding block and swaying just land to the body over and over and they'll be forced to switch it up, then punish them from there.

    Glad I'm not the only one that ran into this. Yeah I was trying to go to the body, he started mixing in the spinning back kick afterwards. An even more deadly combination. I did not want to risk ducking into one of those.
    Anyway it was a very efficient way of playing sadly a bit too rewarding for how cheese it was.
    I actually hope I encounter it again because I definitely need more practice against nonsense like that.

    I have never been too good at grappling in the series so I've never used those. I'd say I get too anxious on getting back on my feet that I am probably making it too easy for my opponent to read me. I'll read up on these.
