EA Sports UFC 4 Career Mode Trailer & Details

Whether it’s inside or outside the octagon, every move matters in your pursuit of becoming the undisputed champion in EA SPORTS UFC 4. The overhauled career mode experience gives you all new tools to put yourself in the journey from unknown amateur to UFC superstar.

Using the all new Fighter Evolution feature, watch your character grow based on the disciplines they use in training or bouts. If you’re a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu artist who trained for his black-belt from childhood or a devastating boxer who spent their youth in backyard contests, your experience shapes your skill-set. Control over your career reaches an all-new peak this year, with meaningful relationship building options and more control in career paths. The fights, the weight classes, and the rivals you’ll make are all up to you.

  • Coach Davis – Coach Davis is our new interactive coach character that will guide you on your journey to the top of the UFC.
  • Fighter Evolution – Your fighter will grow and improve based on the decisions you make in the gym and in the Octagon. Depending on your tendencies in training and in fights, your fighter will begin to become more proficient in the attack styles you use more often. So if you want to be a great striker, throw more combos — and if you want to be a great wrestler, take it to the mat!
  • Relationship System – Interact with fans, fighters and promoters to shape your reputation and career. Call out opponents on social media, pick up some moves from sparring partners and shape your story. Will you be a hero or a villain?
  • Learn From The Best – If you want to fight like a UFC champion, you’ve got to train with UFC champions. Invite other fighters to your camp and you’ll pick up on their habits, styles and techniques. Want to become a better grappler? Bring Khabib to camp. Want to throw heavy hands? Spar with Masvidal. Just like in a real fighter’s career, your training partners will rub off on you and influence your style.
  • Pick Your Path – Will you fight in the amateur circuit, build your name in the World Fighting Alliance, or get your shot in the spotlight on The Contender series? The choice is yours — and each decision affects your ascent to the top.

EA Sports UFC 4 is scheduled to arrive on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on August 14, with the EA Access trial scheduled to arrive on August 7. During the trial time, members will also have the opportunity to participate in pre-launch, UFC 4 challenges, that unlock in-game currency.

Players who pre-order the game will get boxers Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, along with a Backyard Customization Pack and Kumite Customization Pack containing cosmetic items. Additional benefits are available for players who purchase UFC 4 through an in-game tile in UFC 3 or UFC 2, including 10% off UFC 4, martial arts legend Bruce Lee and 500 UFC points.

Here is a list of all of the pre-order bonuses:

  • Backyard Customization Pack
  • Jean Print Shorts
  • Backyard Camo Shirt
  • Backyard MMA Gloves
  • Skull Cap
  • Gold Chain

  1. Just seen the trailer and its a lot of cut scenes again which I'm not sure are interactive or not.
Only watched it once but it doesnt seem much different than 3, yes it has a few more gimmicks etc but if that leads to 'Nate Diaz' tweeting me about a rivalry then into a cutscene and nothing else thats kinda dull.
Gonna hold off until I see more detail about career mode.
I watched a trailer of career mode. I just curious where is the backyard and kumite? They has nothing to do with career mode? So disappointed. Press conference and Weight inn seem to be just cut-scenes again this year. How good would it be if we have any options to talk in press conference. No need real voice, just need subtitles like 2knba, fifa's journey mode. How good would it be if we can choose respect or disrespect pose against our opponent in actual Weight inn like UD3.
    Just watched the trailer.
    - The larger font size for Social Media interactions is nice. UFC 3 interactions were way too hard to read on a 55 inch TV.
    - The Coach Davis interactions seem interesting, but we'll see if they get old quickly
    - The training partners aspect and friend/enemy dynamic could be neat if it is implemented correctly.
    - Seems like the press conferences are just cut scenes again with no user input. Maybe I'm wrong?
    - Do you have to use a created fighter or can you use one off the regular roster like you could in UFC 3?
    - Do the champions in each division change as your career progresses or do they stay the same?
    - Can I see the results of other fight cards that I'm not involved in?
I'm looking forward to trying out the mode, but trying not to get my hopes up either.

I’m really love what I just seen from the career mode trailer. A lot of my ideas on my wishlist got on such as relationships, call outs , full on amateur circuit, full on pro circuits , fighter invites , taking short notice fights if I want to or not , being cut then reviving my career and a lot more. Hair looks good but hopefully there’s a lot more and new tattoos look dope so can’t wait to mess around with that. Career mode will be the reason I buy this game for sure ****ing love what I just saw. PLEASE KEEP ALL OF THIS AND BUILD ON TO IT
Lol where were the backyard and kumite? I think I would litterally die of laughter if that turns out to be this years press conference wolf tickets.

No one ever said they were incorporated into your career, everyone just decided to assume that.

That's true, but when EA provides no information it's only normal for people to start making things up.
Daniel Cormier holding a mic at weigh ins and Daniel Cormier voice acted this game so maybe will get cut scene weigh ins with Cormier introducing the fighters. Maybe. Or I might be looking to deep into it hmmmmmmm

But it’s also not okay for them to assume and then throw shade at the devs because they hyped themselves up with imaginary tales. I also thought those venues would be in career mode but who knows and idc tbh because what I seen outweighs those venues. People need to relax and check their expectations and not come at devs when their make believe imagination bubble gets popped.

They look like the exact same cutscenes so I’m going to hazard a guess and say they’re not interactive
I enjoyed a lot of the things I saw in the career mode trailer. My main concern is that I’m fairly confident that the press conference clip is the same that they showed in ufc 3 for career mode which turned out to be misleading and essentially nothing. So that makes me skeptical for everything else I saw in the trailer.
Lmao loved how Colby was mouthing off about sparring you and him basically beating you up but you can expose him by posting the video of you knocking him out in sparring exposing fools , taunting fighters on social media from the social tab and more sounds like ima be the troll god fighter

So, Backyard and Kumite exist for what? Just promotion? a quick fight? What a waste......

Man U just can’t be pleased huh whether it’s in career mode or not what was shown outweighs venues imo. What I do know is that it wasn’t shown for the career mode trailer whoopty do lol just wait until we get more details

Smart man lol it was hilarious that’s for sure. I wonder how fighters react afterwards and what fans say on social lol

Forget career mode. This trailer tells me without a doubt that Universe Mode is possible, the groundwork is all there.
alhobert says the same thing. But unfortunately it wont be a thing for ufc 4 it seems. I really wanted to see a Dana white mode.
    FlaccoNumba5
It would be cool if they made career mode more like Madden's connected franchise mode
    What's madden's connected franchise mode?

    What's madden's connected franchise mode?

Connected franchise in madden lets the user have control of essentially everything. You can own a team, coach another team, and have a CAF on a completely different team all within the same franchise/ universe. I hope that gives you an okay idea of what it is

I’ve felt for a while it wouldn’t be a very difficult mode to add, but evidently they’re not very interested. Not sure why, think it would be a relatively easy addition that would add tons of replayability and longevity to the game.
It certainly looks improved, but it doesn't look amazing or anything.
The social media stuff still looks pretty crap. It seems to be a choice of 2 things to say and that's it. I think it's gonna get old really vast. I feel like the coach stuff will too.
What's good though, is the fact that career is unscripted and you can fight in the WFA or DWCS. I also like how they're seemingly letting us choose when to move up or down weight classes. That stuff all sounds good.
Don't know why people are shocked not to see the backyard or Kumite stuff. It seemed obvious to me after they announced those that they were just gonna be extra arenas/venues to play in. I really doubt there will even be different rulesets for either venue. It's literally just the equivelant of choosing between the 02 or MSG, just a little more exotic.
Anyway, overall, it's certainly looking to be an improvement over the last few games, but I'm not expecting it to be anything amazing.
I might actually play this. Looks fun. Like the varied choices.
Now can we get EA Sports UFC Connected Franchise for EA Sports UFC 7?

It looked like they finally put some effort in Career, for the first time. But I have to say, I don't really believe anything in these videos after the last time.
As I said before, the fact that you still have to try and become the GOAT is just bad.
If I want to have a Jeremy Stephens kind of career, where I never come close to the belt, let me.
Also, I doubt that they did anything about fighting 65-year old champions, or CAF's with losing records fighting for the belt, they mentioned nothing about this.

This is the one of my major peeves with career I really hope they fixed. I don't wanna fight Jon Jones for the 8th time. Heck, I shouldn't have to fight him three times when he's never beaten me before during my title reign.

Yeah I know right?! It seemed like you’d get to a certain point and then it would just start throwing the same opponents at you again and again

What's even more interesting to me is I never had a rematch with the person I took the title from when I did the women's divisions. Beat JJ and never saw her again.
Took the title off Nunes and never saw her again, but Ronda popped up like like Jones did half a dozen times.
Heck, I dropped the title on purpose in one play through as middleweight to see if I could get a trilogy going. I dropped it to Bisping. Who then lost it to Belfort before I got my rematch.
I never saw a second fight with Bisping again that run and never saw Belfort again after I got the belt back.

I always thought it was just a new arena like Madison Square or the Tokyo Dome.
This actually got my hyped up a bit, it seems like its what UFC 3 should have been.
I like the fighter evolution system, and the social media thing is not perfect as you only have 2 options, but at least you have options, which is still lightyears ahead of what we had in UFC 3.
And better yet, IT IS NOT SCRIPTED ! Yay !

I dunno man, the trailer says your goal is the become the goat, that doesn't mean you cannot be a journeyman, I mean, every single fighter's goal is to become the goat, most jut never achieve it.
It seems to me like you can be a journeyman and never quite reach the belt, or maybe i'm just in a good move and over optimistic
Edit : No kumite or backyard in career, i'm happy with that !

Lol you literally can be a journeyman and everyone’s goal in fighting is to be the best. If you get your *** beat a lot and win some well you are a journeyman idk what people want when it’s already there since ufc 3 lol if your not good and can’t beat high level fighters you won’t even reach the belt so idk what that guys on about. Put the difficulty on legendary if you want to be a journeyman
At least it's nice that you CAN be a can/journeyman. Career is always the first thing I do after learning the basic controls, so I might suck at first and it's nice to, you know... continue the game. I did not expect to get thrown out after two losses in EAUFC3. It's nice to make your own way instead of EA guiding you by a leash.
Didn't really see anything in the trailer that I liked, but that was to be expected. The rivalry system seems very basic but fun. Inviting people and knocking them out will be fun for a couple of times.
In typical EA fashion, they did just enough for me to purchase the game on launch, without me getting excited at all.

    In business what else matters?
At this point I'm pissed off were four games in and no cage seated or butt scoots or shuffle step footwork. Anything else but gameplay is secondary. New career mode is cool but theres so much else to focus on.
Another minor ask, does anyone know if we can export career mode fighters with their record this year?
Or simply have CAFs that aren't always 0-0 when announced in regular matches?

That is 1000% not true. If they added those positions you would move onto the next item on your wish list of positions and techniques.
So in your world I would just stop buying the game because I would never get any of the features I want because fighters can't drag their buttocks along the floor of the cage?

Game Informer did a look into UFC Career Mode: https://www.gameinformer.com/preview/2020/07/30/ufc-4s-career-mode-puts-the-choices-in-your-hands
This part seemingly answers the question of whether champions rotate. Hopefully it's like Fight Night where the best old fighters were on their way down by the time you'd risen up.
To top it all off, UFC 4 also reintroduces simulation mechanics into the mix, addressing one of my biggest complaints of UFC 3: the fact that the champions don't rotate over the course of your career. Now, champions rotate over time based on simulated matchups. Unfortunately, despite the simulation mechanics taking place, they aren't surfaced to you in a fight-by-fight capacity, so you'll have to keep your eyes on the movement in the rankings if you want to keep your finger on the pulse of what's happening in your division beyond your own career.

So that answers two of my questions.
Happy the champions change but wish you could see the results of fights that take place outside of your own fights.
Was it that hard to show us all of the cards happening in the, dare I say, universe?
Still excited to try out the mode, but hoping they can add things to keep me playing it.

Yeah, that'd be a good feature. In an ideal world you'd be able to use the other cards results to call out fighters on social media like how they do IRL.
Would also like post fight call out mechanics but I assume they'd like that to be voice based when text-based would probably make the most sense.

That’d be great! Being able to react to another fighter’s performance on social media. Perhaps giving them props and letting them know you’d like to throw it down with them in the octagon. Or telling them they’re trash

Wasn't that a thing in EA UFC 2? I never played EA UFC 1 (must've missed it, even as an MMA fan: wtf). I remember you could at least check out the other matchups on the card. I have no idea why they ever cut that feature but it's dumb. Typical EA to bring it back after cutting it, with a big applause from the noobs.

I was talking about the other fight cards that your fighter is not fighting on in UFC 3.
Meaning, my fighter fights at Fight Night 25. I can see the results of the other fights on that card, but I wouldn't be able to see any other fight cards during the career mode that don't involve my fighter.

It would be dope to watch other potential opponents fighting on different simulated PPV/ Fight night cards
If it’s not a thing in the career mode right now I would like to see this in game in the future
Ability to build a team for your gym. So I can pay fighters to relocate to my gym and train with them when ever I want , watch their upcoming fights , be in their corner so I can watch their fights and see my self in his/her corner, walkout with them and build relationships with them( good relationship they will relocate and want me in their corner and a bad relationship they will hate me , want to fight me and leave the gym)
I WANT TO BUILD A TEAM THAT CONSISTS OF MASVIDAL , CORMIER , KHABIB , JONNA , MEGAN ANDERSON, CUB SWANSON AND ALDO we can be Able to watch them grow , help them grow and rise through the ranks and win a belt. If your team mate gets a title shot for your title he or she will leave on good terms or bad terms.
Also the ability to put fully created fighters in the UFC and WFA ROSTER IN OUR career mode (25 characters in total can fill the ranks)
    A few thoughts.
I like the bones. I hope they put enough meat on them to make it interesting. If the bulk of what we can do when it comes to rivalries/media/etc is what we just saw it'll be flat and boring. If this is more the tip of the iceberg it could be pretty great.
Same with the coach thing. If he's well written that could be a really cool feature. Hoping he is.
I don't know why they don't just roll back the calendar a few years in these career modes. If the average player is hitting the UFC after 3 career years have the game start in 2017. You're already not doing a ton when it comes to keeping us connected with the universe, that would at least make the ages match up.
I dislike XP systems but I like how it sounds like move acquisition works. I hope what you do in a fight has very little influence on how your ratings move; that's just the tail wagging the dog.
I'm going to give it a shot. I did a lot of careers in Undisputed, but UFC3 really didn't click with me on career mode (despite me liking the gameplay much, much more.) I'd much rather they would've made a universe mode but I'll be running that in excel myself again I suppose.

I've been asking for that since ufc 2. Now with Davis, out seems like the foundation is there for a Be The Coach mode. Imagine having a roster of fighters spread out across amateur, wfa and ufc, all different styles and star level. Managing them and playing as them would give huge variety to career as well as the rpg elements of upgrading your gym and managing the running of it and the fighters.

Nothing new. Same old recycled boring career mode. I feel sorry for the offline players..

I never play online and this didn't get my hopes up.
Sure, it looks like some changes, but it looks like there is still a longevity mode and they are going to force you to retire.
The fact that people want an updated career mode but dint really care about how little gameplay has changed is astonishing and asinine to me. 4 games in. 1 new ground position. Get it together folks

I dont mind having different preferences but to be so worried about career mode when the gameplay is still virtually the same is counter intuitive. Guess all the money for new positions and mocap went to career mode and back yard.

What's gameplay worth if all you can do is meaningless exhibition matches or fight Hitler CAF's online?
Also, gameplay is in a much better state than for example the Career mode was.

So for those of us who play offline what is your suggestion? Just start playing online?
I don’t enjoy the online mode, I don’t enjoy playing online against people who are either put more hours into the game then me and thus are far better (that ruins the fun) or people who use the same fighters and the same moves (that ruins the immersion). It’s just not for me, the limited time I have to play I want to enjoy myself and play to my play style. Career mode is where I find myself, the ability to pick up and play when I have free time and create a story for myself. With no improvements to the career there is no point in someone like me to purchase the game. Sure there should be gameplay fixes but in the past those are done through multiple post launch patches. A revamped and new career mode is not something to wait another 2+ years for in my opinion.
Edit: I want to be clear I do agree with you that some fundamental gameplay features are missing and are not where I want them to be. All I’m saying is that a career mode is a very important feature for offline players who may never play online

Exactly this for me also. Also EA's data -- according to an older Game Informer piece I think -- tells them that career mode is by far the most popular mode, so most people who buy the game are career mode first instead of seated cage position first.
I tried online but I honestly can't be bothered putting the levels of hours needed to be good online when I could just have fun creating a caf for career.

Another question I had has been answered.
Based on this video, you can import the appearance of a licensed UFC Fighter.
Now does that mean, you can only use their appearance and not their name? I'm guessing so.
Gives me an idea to bring in Jon Jones "good" twin brother and bring him up the ranks and try to win the NMF Title from Wonderboy.

Good way to have edit a fighter.

I was talking in terms of inviting fighters to relocate to my gym so I can train with them without cost. I can also have relations with them as you can now and they can with everyone else also. The adding fighters to the roster would work like fight night champions I wouldn’t manage them in my career mode I don’t want to manage no one in my career lol I would just be part of a career we’re my fighters exist , they can do everything I can do , they can have relations , I can invite them to my gym , I can fight them , they can win belts and etc.
What I suggested was a way to build a team of fighters that can train with , follow and watch their fights , I help them train and they train me too and just see what they do.
And ability to fill rosters just to add more fighters to different organizations and they can move up and down ranks , win belts as I said , go to new organizations and essentially everything else everyone including myself can do
Here's some gameplay from career that has no doubt been posted here already.
Gotta love the meaningful choices, like the first one, when your coach invites you to train with him. Refuse, and career mode just ends. :y14:
First moments look nice. Here's hoping 'cuz no way I'm playing ranked. As mentioned before: when I did I fought only weird/ugly CaF's and people quitting halfway submission. Definite no-no. It's also a 15 min. commitment without pause. Just can't find a reason why I would.
