The wait is almost over for football fans, as EA Sports is ready to pull back the curtain on its two biggest sports games of the year.
EA Sports has announced that both Madden 27 and College Football 27 will be revealed during the company’s new Opening Drive showcase on June 4.
According to EA, the new presentation format is designed to provide a deeper look at both franchises and what players can expect when they launch, though it’ll likely be over the summer.
“EA Sports Opening Drive brings together the full vision for College Football and Madden NFL in one connected showcase, covering every mode, every major innovation, and every way to play,” EA said in its announcement.
While the company confirmed both games will be part of the event, specific details about what will be shown remain unknown. That means fans will have to wait a little longer to find out what major gameplay changes, mode updates, and new features are planned for this year’s releases.
Either way, it’s good news for football fans.
Despite being often maligned by those in the sports gaming community, Madden remains the only way for football fans to enjoy a fully licensed NFL sim experience, and is often one of EA Sports’ highest-selling properties. And, more often than not, the games are at least decent in terms of gameplay quality. This year’s game will once again face the annual challenge of showing players how the series plans to evolve. After years of community requests regarding Franchise Mode, presentation, gameplay authenticity, and customization, fans will finally get their first look at what’s next.
There is already speculation surrounding Madden 27‘s cover athlete. Insider Gaming reports EA Sports is holding an upcoming event in Chicago, which has led some to wonder if Bears quarterback Caleb Williams could be involved. However, nothing regarding the cover athlete has been officially announced.
The College Football series, however, has produced no such angst with gamers. Not yet, at least.
Reintroduced in 2024 after a decade-long hiatus, the series has produced two titles — College Football 25 and College Football 26 — both of which were showered with praise from critics and gamers alike. However, to avoid stagnation, the series will have to deliver innovations with CFB 27 if it is to be a third successive slam dunk.
