EA FC 26 and NBA 2K26 Dominate September Revenue Charts

Two of the most popular sports titles are raking in the cash.

According to Global data firm Newzoo (as reported by Wccftech), EA FC 26 was the top game in terms of revenue for September 2025. NBA 2K26, another major sports game that released in September, was right behind at the second sport. These two games are followed by the controversial Borderlands 4 in third place, Fortnite in fourth, and the indie darling Hollow Knight: Silksong rounds off the top 5.

The Free-To-Play Model Dominates In Active User Count

Every year, the fall season is always a major draw for sports fans. Americans are awaiting the regular NBA season start, LaLiga and Premier League are in full swing, and we’re on the final stretch for the 2025 F1 season. With so much excitement around sports this time of year, it’s only natural that games like NBA 2K26 and EA FC 26 dominate the charts. Madden 26 also found its way in the top 10, coming in at the 9th spot.

However, an important distinction I have to make here is that these were the top games by revenue, not active users. Fortnite still leads the charge in that regard, and the usual suspects like Minecraft, Roblox, and Rocket League also make the list for top games by monthly active users. These are games that are able to bring in hundreds of millions of players every month, something that even the top sports games struggle with.

With skate. being another recent release in September, it also managed to crack the top monthly active users list at the 6th spot. Battlefield 6 also hit EA’s highest concurrent player count on Steam (747,440 players all-time peak). Executives over at EA should be very happy with how this quarter is shaping up for them, especially since they now have that gigantic debt to worry about after EA’s $55B leveraged buyout.
