“Inside the NBA” has long been fueled by its sharp and often ruthless banter, with NBA legend Charles Barkley frequently finding himself on the receiving end of the jokes and taunts. Even his Hall of Fame career is not spared by his co-hosts, particularly Shaquille O’Neal. Draymond Green tried to join in by taking a jab at Barkley’s late career, but longtime host Ernie Johnson quickly flipped the conversation back on the Golden State Warriors star.
Green tried to clown Barkley’s years with the Houston Rockets after the legend commented on the Warriors dynasty, which won four championships at its peak. However, his remark did not come off as he intended and was taken by fans and pundits as an insult to the all-time NBA great. Later on, Johnson came to Barkley’s defense with the help of their producer. As reported by Fadeaway World, Johnson revealed an interesting stat tied to Green.
“Draymond Green, you’ve had 43 of those games with more turnovers than made field goals. That is tied for the most since 2003, tied with Kendrick Perkins for the most,” Johnson said. Green was embarrassed. “You did not even have to go that far.” But Johnson stood by it, sending the crew into laughter before he dropped an imaginary mic, saying, “Hey, what can I say?”
Green Was Over The Line
During the show, Barkley declared the end of the Warriors’ dynasty, saying that their old age would prevent them from seriously contending for another championship. Even with Stephen Curry’s timeless greatness, Barkley told Green that they need to embrace reality.
“It’s over for the Warriors. No disrespect. It ends for every old team. You had your run, you get old, you let Klay go. You and Steph are on the backside of y’all’s careers…You think you’re gonna get healthier for next year? You’re just gonna get older. If you want to compete, you’ll have to leave there,” he said.
Green then came up with a quick retort to Barkley before explaining why the Warriors’ mindset will remain the same despite their age. “I think the goal is just to not look like you in a Houston Rockets uniform. Did you see it? I saw it.” Now, he is under fire for his comments, with fans saying that Barkley’s years in Houston are incomparable to the best years of his career.
Barkley’s legendary resume is indisputable, with an MVP, 11 All-Star selections and 11 All-NBA nods. The only thing missing and being used against him is his lack of championships, a direct contrast to Green, who has won four. Nevertheless, many thought the former Defensive Player of the Year was over the line and that he should respect legends like Barkley. That’s why Johnson reminded him of his place with that brutal stat.
