Did CeeDee Lamb Actually Donate $3 Million to Disaster Relief in Texas?

The story has spread across social media. But is it true?

Over the July 4th weekend, Central Texas — Kerr County in particular — was the site of devastating flash floods that wreaked havoc in the area. Almost a week later, almost 120 people have been declared dead, while an additional 172+ are still listed as missing. This kind of tragedy has disrupted the Central Texas community, as many have begun to provide aid and relief to the area and hopefully find survivors. Amongst the chaos, some other stories have broken regarding the involvement of in the relief efforts.

One particular story involves CeeDee Lamb, a star wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys. The story — as it has been described on social media platforms — involves Lamb donating $3 million to flood relief and even becoming physically involved in the local rescue efforts.

But as cool a story as it is, is it actually true?

Did CeeDee Lamb Really Donate $3 million To Texas Flood Relief?

The earliest report of CeeDee Lamb donating money personally to flood relief came from a Cowboys fan page on Facebook called “Blue Star Brotherhood.” The source for this is in the comments and redirects to a WordPress blog. The report claims that CeeDee Lamb not only donated money to help victims of the Texas floods, but was also on the ground helping people who had been personally affected. Not only does the story claim that people recognized Lamb on-site, but that Lamb had provided a statement, confirming the story.

Needless to say, the story has spread like wildfire across social media.

However, upon doing research, there doesn’t seem to be any evidence or credible reports of Lamb donating $3 million or of him being present at the scene of the disaster.

Don’t get me wrong — I’m not trying to say that CeeDee Lamb wouldn’t do any such thing or that he doesn’t want to help. What I am saying is that creating stories like this does a disservice to the people who are actually there. Unfortunately, in a world where engagement farming is a thing, I can’t say I’m surprised.

Now, to be fair, it’s plausible that whoever came up with the story skimmed through a different story and decided to fill in the blanks themselves. Within the last few days, the name of Jonathan Lamb — a Kerrville police community services officer — has made rounds in the media. The Dallas Cowboys organization has also donated $500,000 to the relief fund. So, it could be a case of two separate things being conflated. That alone would be pretty irresponsible from a journalism standpoint. But, it’s the best defense I could theoretically come up with.

That said, the TLDR version is that there is no evidence to suggest CeeDee Lamb has donated millions of dollars to Texas flood relief, nor that he’s on-site. It’s just something that someone made up for reasons unknown.
