Some young MLB prospects are getting attention for what they are doing to shine on the diamond. For instance, Ryan Lambert ate 30 raw eggs to add speed to his pitch. However, a few young guns are making the news for all the wrong reasons, particularly Max Clark of the Detroit Tigers.
As reported by Essentially Sports, Clark is now under fire on social media after posting a photo that showed off bundles of cash and several pieces of expensive jewelry arranged inside a luxury Louis Vuitton box. Some viewed it as harmless self-expression. However, others were more critical because of the timing, as his struggles on the field continue this Spring Training.
It did not take long for the 21-year-old to become a talking point across baseball circles, with some critics saying that this is a concerning attitude that must be handled before it gets out of hand. “A veteran within the Tigers clubhouse needs to pull Max Clark aside and have a chat,” Dan Clark of The Big Leagues Daily said.
People Believe Clark Should Focus On His Performance First Before The Perks
Clark entered the league as the Tigers’ third overall pick, with projections that he would be a future impact player with the potential to become a promising talent. In this year’s draft, he is currently projected to be drafted with the 10th overall pick, while also standing as the Detroit Tigers’ second-best prospect.
In the 2026 Spring Training, he played seven games, making 16 plate appearances and 15 at-bats. However, so far, he has not impressed in his early performance, especially in left field. One instance that perfectly illustrated his fielding struggles was their game against the Atlanta Braves in late February, where he dropped two fly balls in the first inning. It did not help that he was wearing diamond chains around his neck.
Despite the backlash, Clark remains unapologetic for his personality. “I don’t care what they have to say, to be completely honest with you. People don’t know me. There’s a lot of people out there that will do anything for some monetary clicks. I’ve been dealing with this since I was 15. It’s a part of this game. It’s a part of this process. And it’s only going to get worse, obviously,” he said.
Ultimately, Clark could be one of the next generation of MLB stars if he lives up to his potential. However, he will probably continue to be himself, which could rub some traditionalists, who expect humility and quiet dedication, the wrong way. It is up to Clark whether his approach will become a distraction in his journey to the big leagues and, in the long run, be worth big money like some Detroit stars.
