Chiefs President Says He Promised Not To Monetize Travis Kelce And Taylor Swift’s Relationship And Explained Why She’s Not Shown On The Arrowhead Stadium Jumbotron

The Kansas City Chiefs finally cleared up one of the season’s biggest questions. People have been asking why Taylor Swift rarely appears on the Arrowhead Stadium jumbotron, even on nights when cameras catch her cheering for Travis Kelce.

This week, Chiefs president Mark Donovan explained the reason. The franchise made an early promise to Kelce and Swift that their relationship would not be used as a marketing tool. The team agreed they would not profit from it or use it to draw attention.

The Promise Not To Monetize Their Relationship

Kansas City Chiefs President Mark Donovan recently spoke on the Up and Adams Show about the early conversations that took place when Travis Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift first became public. He said the team understood immediately how much attention the couple would draw, so they made it a priority to respect their personal life.

“Taylor’s been amazing to us. It’s been nothing but good. She is a phenomenon. She is just a special kind of person,” Donovan told sportscaster Kay Adams.

Donovan also shared that he spoke with Kelce early in the relationship about how the team would approach the situation. He said he promised Kelce that the Chiefs would be respectful. “I told Travis, ‘Look, we are going to treat you and your relationship with the same respect that we treat any other player or coach’s relationship.’ It’s a relationship. We’re not going to monetize it, we’re not going to go out there and go crazy,” Donovan said.

Donovan made it clear that the Chiefs see Kelce and Swift as people first, not publicity. The goal is to protect their comfort and keep the focus on football while still welcoming the positive energy their relationship brings.

The Jumbotron Approach Behind the Scenes

The Chiefs executive explained that the team does not show Swift on the video boards at Arrowhead Stadium, even though TV broadcasts often highlight her. He said this choice has been intentional from the beginning.

“For a couple of years, all those shots you see in the stadium. He scores a touchdown. He makes a catch. It goes to Taylor. Especially the first year. We never showed Taylor on our big boards in our stadium, never,” he said. “It was respectful. We’re not going to do that. We’re not taking advantage of this relationship.” Donovan said the team wanted to support Kelce without turning Swift into part of the stadium show.

He also mentioned that the Chiefs’ arena team “never played a Taylor Swift song in the stadium when she was in the building,” something he said he “joked” about with Kelce early in the first year. He said the tight end appreciated the gesture. “Travis, to his credit, is all about team and he’s all about the guys and he’s all about being part of a team and not being separate,” Donovan shared. “And he said, ‘That separates me… When we’re playing a game. When we’re in that stadium, it’s about us. And I want it to be about us’.”

Despite the attention surrounding the couple, Donovan said Kelce remained grounded. He insisted the star was “focused on the right things and doing it the right way.” He also highlighted how strong the team environment is. “Our locker room has the maturity, leadership and respect to handle it.”

The Chiefs have made their position clear. They want to protect the people involved, keep the focus on the field, and manage the situation with steady judgment. Donovan’s comments show that the organization remains committed to privacy, respect, and stability, even when the spotlight is brighter than usual.
