The White House visit controversy doesn’t seem to be settling anytime soon, as many analysts are jumping on it to stretch the debate. Recently, Charles Barkley made some strong remarks about people who were trying to argue that gold medal-winning hockey teams should not have gone to the White House to show solidarity with their women, who were indirectly disrespected by President Trump.
According to Fox News, he expressed his opinion in favor of respecting the White House. He declared that the media spins the narrative in a way that people assume to be right, but in reality, things stand differently. Barkley argued that the public is not sensible enough to see what is true or not, and that these media people spread their propaganda. He declared that he is not a Trump supporter, but if the president calls him to the White House, he would go there in the name of respect.
His exact words were, “Why do y’all have to mess up everything?… That’s why we got this divided, screwed-up country. Stop it, man. Because the public they’re idiots, they’re fools. They can’t think for themselves. I know y’all say stuff to trigger them. Y’all say stuff, and y’all know they’re going to be fools. I’m not a Trump guy. But if I got invited to the White House, I would go. I’m not a Trump guy, I want to make that clear. But I respect the office. He’s the president of the United States… it doesn’t have to be a talking point.”
Barkley Blasts Media, Then Hints At Steph & LeBron For Snubbing Trump’s White House Invite
Barkley, who also predicted LeBron James’ future, criticized the media’s role in gaslighting or overemphasizing this event. But looks like he also took indirect shots at NBA powerhouse LeBron and Steph for not going to the White House when they were invited. Actually, during Donald Trump’s last tenure, he invited Steph and LeBron, among other US national basketball players, but they reportedly declined.
And now, when the same happened this year, when the ice hockey team won the Olympics, they were invited, and the men’s team accepted the invitation. Some players were absent, but the majority were present.
The US team has defeated Canada in the final of the Ice Hockey Cup for the first time since the 1980s, and, given the historic nature of this success, Donald Trump extended the invitation. Though his controversial remark set this spiral in motion, the controversy lingers in the media even after the tournament has ended.
