The feature will join its already confirmed classic single-player and couch co-op modes. When talking about it with Insider Gaming, Playground Productions’ CEO, Lindsay Barnett, labeled the mode as the most highly anticipated feature by the community, before highlighting their goals for it:

“Backyard Baseball has an incredible fan community. With online play and couch co-op, we’re proud to be creating more opportunities for fans to connect and play together. Backyard is for kids and kids at heart. We want everyone to play like a kid!”

You can check out the game’s new cinematic trailer below. Followed by a message from its developing team, revealed through its Steam post.

”We just updated the game page with a brand new cinematic trailer. It’s been a labor of love bringing this to you and we hope you enjoy it. Our aim was to capture the spirit of the Backyard in one, concise vignette. In this trailer you will find humor, sports heroism (and whatever the opposite of that is), mistakes (and acceptance of those mistakes!), silliness, and most importantly, fun. We chose PLAY LIKE A KID as our tag line because the spirit of the Backyard, for fans of any age, is to enjoy play. Whether you are 5 or 45 — we’re all here to be a part of this incredible community and play like kids. We hope you enjoy and please, if you have not already, be sure to wishlist!!”

Backyard Baseball is set to be released on July 9th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. A reimagining of the 97 classic, the title is set to feature 24 original teams and 30 original characters, and to expand the experience with six unique game modes (including the newly revealed multiplayer).

You can currently check out its demo on Steam and wishlist the title on all its platforms. A Nintendo Switch version is also expected to be released in the summer of 2026.
