Playground Productions (game’s creator) is teaming up with Studio Lighthouse (known for The Cuphead Show) to bring the ’90s Basketball franchise to the big screen. The show is titled “Sticky Situation”.

The story follows the team’s star, Stephanie “Bubbles” Morgan, who loses her lucky bubble gum just 30 minutes before opening day, and the Backyard kids must scramble to save the season. A top-tier voice cast includes Tiffany Haddish, Arturo Castro, and Ego Nwodim.

Bringing Backyard Baseball To Life What to Know

This is just a nostalgic homage; the Backyard Baseball franchise is getting a full-scale revival. Playground Productions recently re-released the classic titles from the franchise, like Backyard  Baseball 97, and now the series is getting a dedicated animated show. The new special will debut on the Backyard Sports YouTube channel and in select venues like Dave & Buster’s locations in the U.S.

The adaptation takes a fun-and-light tone true to the original game’s spirit: over-the-top characters, quirky missions, and kid-friendly shenanigans. The plot centers on the team’s opening day crisis and a frantic last scramble to recover the “never-play-without-it” gum that’s superstition-gold for their star. Yes, the level of whimsy is fully intact.

The voice acting cast is fantastic, too. Tiffany Haddish will play Kiesha Phillips, Arturo Castro is voicing fan-favorite Pablo Sanchez, and Ego Nwodim steps in as “Bubbles” Morgan. Supporting roles include Chris Mintz-Plasse, Donald Faison, Ashleigh Crystal Hairston, and Adam Pally.

This show is going to be both a replay of old memories for old fans as well as a discovery for the young audience of this era. This show aims to prove that Backyard Sports Universe isn’t just a thing of the 90s— it’s alive, expanding, and eager to play on multiple platforms.
