Archie Manning asked to record a message for Ole Miss fans, but what he said about Lane Kiffin is brutal

He had a sharp two-word verdict.

Ole Miss legend Archie Manning didn’t hold back when talking about former Rebels coach Lane Kiffin. After Kiffin suddenly left Oxford for Baton Rouge, Manning called him a “narcissistic, jerk” in a public video. The comment quickly went viral and added more fuel to an already heated situation.

Manning is an iconic figure at Ole Miss. Both he and his son Eli Manning are legends of the program, so when Archie speaks, people listen. He made the video as a request for Cameo, speaking directly to a group of fans.

“As you know, the Rebels had a great year,” Manning said in the video, according to Outkick. “I think we’re going to do great in the playoffs without our narcissistic, jerk coach. I sure hope so.” The sharp comment perfectly captures why Kiffin has become unwelcome among Ole Miss fans, both past and present.

Kiffin’s exit shows his true priorities over team loyalty

Kiffin’s exit was brutal for the staff he left behind. He gave his Ole Miss assistant coaches a harsh ultimatum, demanding complete loyalty to him or nothing at all. He abandoned them right before the school’s first College Football Playoff berth, showing that LSU was clearly his top priority. His sudden departure to LSU raised serious questions about his commitment. Kiffin reportedly even blamed the Athletic Director for his decision to leave for Baton Rouge.

The departure ended a successful five-year rebuild with the Rebels. Kiffin had managed to rebuild his personal brand while in Oxford, fixing a career that was previously known for controversy in both college and the NFL. Ole Miss seemed to have tamed that side of him, but Kiffin went back to his old ways as soon as his exit became clear.

Some defenders argue that Kiffin simply accepted a higher-paying job, which shouldn’t cause this much controversy. However, the messy timeline speaks for itself. He was introduced as the new LSU head coach at Tiger Stadium on December 1, 2025, just as Ole Miss was preparing for the playoffs.

Kiffin hasn’t stayed quiet either. He’s remained vocal on social media, still referencing his old team, which only makes angry fans even more frustrated. His claims about angry fans sparked even more backlash online. The Rebels ended up with a six-spot in the Playoff, and defensive coordinator Pete Golding has taken over as Head Coach in Oxford.

They’ll face No. 11 Tulane at home in the first round of the College Football Playoff. The team will try to prove Manning right that they can succeed without their former coach.
