WNBA star Natasha Cloud did not hold back this weekend. She sent a clear warning to commissioner Cathy Engelbert after learning about a controversial proposal in the upcoming CBA negotiations that would remove team-provided housing.
Cloud questioned why the league would even consider taking away something so essential, especially for younger players who often relocate on short notice. Her message felt direct, frustrated, and rooted in real experience.
A Heated Moment That Exposed Rising Frustration Inside The League
This policy requiring teams to offer housing was first put in place in 2016, and it quickly became a major source of support for players. So when news spread that the league might remove that requirement, frustration rose fast. Losing team housing would shift the entire burden onto players, forcing them to secure their own places and cover the cost on their own.
Natasha Cloud made the issue clear when she said, “We want team housing.” She later added, “This makes no sense for our younger players, for the players that get cut and are stuck in leases. Instead of teams that bring in replacement players, nor for players in bigger markets. Let alone talking about player safety in safe areas. @wnbacommish we want a girls girl.”
Negotiations have already been pushed to January 2026, and this change remains one of the biggest sticking points. If the league decides to remove the housing clause, it could create real problems for players already balancing tight salaries, unpredictable contracts, and constant movement. Many would not hesitate to push back hard, even if that means discussing a stoppage.
Fan Push That Turned One Criticism Into A Full-Blown Debate
The moment Cloud spoke up, fans jumped in with strong reactions of their own. One fan said, “This sounds like the whole commercial flights all over again. players were not a priority in that decision and it ended very badly on the wnba office. In 1 year they’ll bring back housing because it will end bad on the wnba office again. unless they reconsider it within this extention period.” That comment echoed a larger fear that the league was repeating old mistakes rather than learning from them.

Others pushed even harder. One supporter wrote, “Keep pushing! The deal on the table is s**t. Give these players what they deserve!” Another added, “Tasha always in the right side of history 🙌,” showing how much trust many fans place in Cloud as a voice for fairness.
Some fans shifted the conversation toward the league’s leadership. One of the strongest comments read, “100% standing with Tash and all the players. Silver and Englebert, as employees of the billionaire owners, haven’t put a respectful offer on the table yet… Get serious with these negotiations, owners, or Unrivaled will become the next big thing in women’s sports.” That message captured a growing belief that players have more leverage than ever.

Not every comment agreed, though. One person argued, “I’m sorry but you can’t get paid big money and then require housing!” But even that pushback was drowned out by a larger wave of fans siding with Cloud and insisting that reliable housing is not a luxury.
All of this added even more pressure on the league office. With CBA talks approaching, the public reaction made it clear that fans are paying close attention, and they expect the league to treat its stars and its youngest players with real respect.
